Sounds like Chris wanted to be a vtuber for whatever reason. It’s incredibly odd she would go this far for Hololive. At the time, it only had 2 vtubers and Nijisanji and Kisuna Ai were freaking juggernauts. Hololives future was incredibly uncertain at the time. Gen 1 wasn’t even getting paid aside from their own revenue. I mean compensate dating for Hololive? I truly wonder what her ambitions would have been. Even Suisei didn’t put her stock in Hololive completely.

I fear speculating on that is a rabbit hole with no floor. Stardom's a strong pull to an aspiring underaged idol, fake it til' you make it could have pushed her to go along with the contract, she didn't know any better, etc. It does raise a question whether she had anyone to consult with. Friends, family, someone to talk about this deal. Looking at what happened, it seems unlikely or that the people she surrounded herself with dispensed terrible advice. The blame really falls more on M imo. Making an investment where the returns are personal, in the way that he did, is doomed for failure among other egregious things.

If there's one Hololive controversy I wish someone could make a video on, it'd be the Permissions Arc. It feels like the one huge issue that seems to be forgotten by many despite it affecting most of JP. I can only find a few articles and some low quality videos about it. I think that such a huge event would need a video of its own. Capcom, Mio, stuff like that, it could work.

There isn't really a lot more that can be said about the "Copystrike incident" as I call it. Hololive didn't get game perms and let their vtubers play whatever, and it eventually came to bite them in the ass. Mio and Subaru were the ones that suffered the most because of it. Mio was the first (and I think only?) one to get copystriked, and she got a 2 of those within a day. Meanwhile Subaru's then-manager effed up and _deleted_ a huge chunk of her VODs instead of privating them. I think Miko lost a lot of VODs too... I mean everyone did. Even the Hololive Channel privated a few HoloGra episodes and stuff. I don't remember which website/app it was but someone tallied how many VODs in total each Holomem had and how many were lost due to the incident.

Dude, I missed your content so much There really is no one like you to narrate and analyze vtuber stuff. Hope now you will stay for much longer. Anyways, Hitomi was like a creepypasta back when I joined the community. I got here just before the gen 5 debut, so I saw all of the aloe drama as soon as I got here. Meanwhile, being new and excited about the whole story of vtubers, I watched quite a lot of videos in the topic. One of those being about Hitomi. It quite literally felt like watching a creepypasta being told from a community that was growing incredibly fast, so I took it as a story. Like a year later I hear about it again and actually listened to it carefully, with a better explanation too so that probably helped. It was quite a strange feeling learning about the whole thing. From that point to today I always thought it was a pretty sad story about a girl that just wanted to triumph, but now, it just makes me kinda see the whole world as flawed. Like, I see how both sides did pretty scummy things, yet I can't exactly say I don't understand why they would do that. The whole thing must've been a mess at the time, yet there's only traces of it all. Everything is truly a mystery and we just have to accept that. I wonder if time will allow us to actually get to know the whole story or not. For now, it just is a story about a girl that could've been, but wasn't.

Prolly cuz in gen 1 being a “minor” wasn’t exactly uncommon, so hovering on that point wasn’t really necessary when u think about how young the other girls were when they started. Also, just wanna point out that at the time there would’ve been no legal basis for there being an objection to such a relationship. Japan only raised the age of consent a couple of years ago. This happened back in 2018, when the laws still listed age of consent at 13 federally.

I fell into the Holo rabbithole 2 weeks after Fubuki debuted so vividly remember Chris’ existence. Although I can somewhat empathize with her situation, she nor Mr. M do not have my sympathy. They both used ‘unsavory’ means to get what they wanted and both ended up paying the price as a result. They got what they deserved. On another note, If there’s one positive to come out of this negative situation it’s that Cover had revamped their scouting/requirement process. Despite several controversies some holotalents may have here and there, *almost* every talent they’ve hired after GEN 1 have been well-chosen. This is part of the reason of what made Hololive so successful, it’s because their roster of talents are all S-tier in their own right.

So now I'm just curious if you tossed this together during your Spring Break as you mentioned before that you would be incredibly busy with school going forward yet this video is definitely of the same quality as your others ones. Also, I noticed that you mentioned that Hitomi Chris was "underage" in the video which got me to thinking about how there wasn't apparently any sort of age restriction on Vtuber talents being hired in the beginning. I know that Haachama, for example, was very young when she was hired and it just got me to thinking that I'm glad that Cover seems to have a more reasonable age-restriction on hiring new talents now. Maybe it's just a Western philosophy, but I just feel that if you're not even 18 years old then you're not old enough to enter into binding legal agreements and you also probably shouldn't be doing things that are marketed at an audience of mostly adults. Perhaps the age of consent is a bit lower in Japan as opposed to the United States but I've also heard nothing in this story about parents being involved so it all just makes me feel kind of icky.
@Meta7

Iirc the age of drinking in Japan is 20 as well so "underaged drinking" may also mean she was 18-19 years old at the time, old enough to be a legal adult otherwise but not enough to drink.

I think people aren't aware that Japan didn't streamline women's legal age until 2010s. Age of marriage raised from 16 to 18 and age of legal contracts lowered from 20 to 18 for girls. Until that point, they're all at the mercy of parental consent. So Haachama most likely got her contract signed by her parents, just like most underage flesh Idols.

This is the stuff we enjoy most about your work. Genuine insights of VTuber history that can be easily lost in the sands of time. I was watching Matsuri in the early days, I didn't really understand that Hololive was a company or she gen mates when I first started watching. It would a couple months later until Chris popped up on my radar & I couldn't find her KZbin ch. That's when I naturally dug abit.. nothing weird, certainly nothing private.. just enough to be sure that yeah she was apart of Hololive! Over the years I certainly heard the rumours in passing.. but there was one detail that always stood out to me... her age! To be clear I don't know her age, just that she was often mentioned as Miseinen. Mix that in with as far as I know (and again I don't look up these things, but watch VTubers long enough, you hear things) we never heard her side of all of the events that took place.. I'm thankful you mentioned both points as I feel they are very important in a fair & balance coverage of Chris, especially when key bits of the information will likely never surface. Everything I've heard over the time is Chris seems quite naive, eager to step into the adult word & chase a dream. I do wonder how things would have turned out if she never mentioned such things on stream & left him once financially stable... though I fear we would possibly dox regardless.. In the end he had the power & probably a noticeable age gap too... I'm not saying Chris is innocent, but I dare say he should take the weight of the blame.

Good to have you back. Hope more mature and bright as ever! I'd be cool if you could partner up with Japanese sources although it could be hard to check the reliability of information out there. Lot of holomem cases seem cases of being at the right place with the right people and time meanwhile Hitomi's case seem to be the inverse. Overall Cover did a really good job at recruiting and hiring overall. Just 2 problematic hires out of 30+ isn't that bad. I have seen worse in both Kpop and Jpop.

It doesn't matter what the law says, if you make a deal and is able to consent then you're responsible for upholding it. Hitomi Chris, the Unknown Primarch of Hololive. Both were involved at (or at least close to) the beginning of their organisation, then fell out of favour for mysterious reasons and had all information about them scrubbed by the higher-ups. Now, any mention of them are silenced by their respective groups, save in secret. As for me, I only heard of her from browsing at TVTropes (don't ask). Even so, I figured that she was bad news when everything about her in the website pointed out that no-one could talk about her. Heck, even Hololive CN, however despicable they were, can begrudgingly be recognised as former members while Hitomi is completely cut-off from the main group. Though it may have more to do with the former sticking around for much longer. As for how I think of this situation, I am undecided on who was on the wrong. I am leaning on "M" being the problem, as he started by insisting on being in a relationship - never a good thing in any industry - and did the hard dox on her. Though Hitomi's actions are not much better - theft and what-not. Alas, as long as she does not speak her side, "M" is all we have for the information even if possibly half of it are lies. I suspect that Cover Corp may have further investigated it and discovered more which led to their decision, but that is just conjecture. Finally, Depressed Nousagi, I did not expect to see you here so soon. But welcome back all the same.

Welcome back, Nousagi.😁 In the past, you could say that Gen 1 really couldn't be called "collaborating" at that time because Hololive was really still small plus besides Hitomi Chris, there were several members who had experienced cases, namely Yozora Mel, she was considered to have brought content that was rather sensitive and was afraid she would be banned while Akirose been on leave for a long time due to an accident. Akirose even once confided like that about her very hard experience and how hard it was for Lamy and Noel at that time.

@jimmytsunami5275
@jimmytsunami5275 4 ай бұрын
Perhaps her termination was perhaps a stress free one, considering that her final stream was perhaps a foreshadowed goodbye stream towards Hololive and that her compliments towards her genmembers before her broken NDA were like a silent goodbye letter of resignation all in one. Cover and its talents cared deeply for Mel, and just like Pomu Rainpuff, they allowed her to let her go without any allegations or controversies after thanking her for the past 5 years. Whatever Mel has in store for life after her departure, I only hope for her to accomplish the best happiness in life.
