It's a good step forward for the RN, you cant fault the effort. Now HMS QE is back, normally the ship will be in refit for 18 to 24 months. Maybe it should be a chance to get EMALS and arrester gear fitted, I know despite the forward fitting mounts for EMALS it could be upto 3 years before she is back in service. But for the long term i would be beneficial, plus get her crew trained up on on US carriers for CATBAR operations. I do get the feeling the MOD aren't so fussed about F35b more then the carrier variant.

QE2 AIRCRAFT CARRIER Wonderful arrival thousands of sailors BUT NO AIRCRAFT. QE2 has no aircraft or helicoptors. The only carrier in the world which has no aircraft, but has to borrow them from the RAF and the Americans.
@Benjd03 жыл бұрын
Aircraft generally leave carriers before they enter port, just makes it easier than having them take off in the middle of a city. Obviously they have helicopters, and while technically first F-35 squadron is part of the RAF, it's a joint squadron with both RAF and Navy personnel, much like the Harrier force. The current commander of the squadron is a Royal Navy officer.

When they're going to be there for an extended period of time, after returning from deployment for example, then they aren't going to keep their aircraft aboard to be stuck there for potentially months. Not even sure why you're arguing this, it's well known this is what they do and it's the reason they've entered port without its complement of F-35.

Haven't heard of anything about it only running on one of the gas turbines, although it also has 4 diesel engines so it's not really going to be limping if that's the case.
