Thanks for not putting out some fake video about how perfectly clean your house is. It takes guts to show a messy life. I'm semi-messy and It's so hard to close things and care when you'd much rather be doing something else. I'm trying to improve as well. Keep up the good work!

I'm glad you're enjoying my channel - I'm a huge believer in people opening up to one another. The vulnerability is super scary (scariest thing I've done in a while), but my hope is that it makes this whole thing more approachable. Thanks for watching :)

That one made a subscriber out of me. ;) I'm helping my aging parents declutter, but from a distance, so getting them motivated can be a bit of a problem, so I've started decluttering and showing them the nice organized spaces to help them see that it can be done! owob

Can I just say, that just you for doing this and being brace enough to post it. I am a 14 year old girl about to go into high school. And my house is in a similar state as yours. My family has been through some stuff that made cleaning our last priority on top of being generally very messy. But this year I'm going to try to slowly change that. And I'm happy to know that it is possible to make the change! Thanks

You can do it! One tip, when you are cleaning/purging, airplane mode your phone and turn off your wifi (cordless phone too if you have one) to avoid the distractions and messy energy.

One of my favorite types of videos to watch are cleaning, decluttering and organizing. Everyone has their way of doing things and I get advise from all of them. One thing I learned is everything has to have a home, so when you tidy the stuff has a place to go. That has been a big problem as a lot of my things that were sitting out had no home. I have really been trying to get rid of things that I never use that already have homes to make room for the things I want to keep that need a home. Keep up the good work. I just found your channel and I subscribed.

My home was in the exact same state 2 years ago! Until my second son's birth we had SO much STUFF everywhere. We had moved a few months before and we needed 2 huges trucks to move our things! For a family with just one baby! It shocked me at the time, but when it's the norm to have everything, it's hard to believe you can actually let go of things without being a lesser person ... Then I found some videos here on KZbin about minimalism and I was hooked. We got ride of about 3/4 of all our belongings, and we are much happier! No turning back ever! So good luck! I know you can do this! 💪😃

Thanks for the comment and for subbing my channel! Yes, that was exactly us! You and I must be kindred spirits, because our home was a small 2 bedroom (Hubby, toddler, myself) and it took TWO moving trucks. They called in a second truck after they saw how much was just pouring out of our place. We knew we needed to make a change..hah! ;-) Congrats on getting rid of 3/4 of your stuff. That's inspiring.

I love your honesty and showing things how they really are! I started out the same way, I was very messy, my house way messy and I didn't really care until I had to move all of the stuff seven times and couldn't find anything ever. It took me five years to really get on top of things, and stay on top of it and it's been a blessing! I rarely lose anything and cleaning the house is so much easier!

so glad to find your videos, even a year later. i’m in the same boat, i find it very hard to clear or tidy because i just have way too much stuff. i mean i live in a 1 bedroom apartment, and i rent so i don’t have any furniture of my own, but it still took one full van to move in. i realized being constantly surrounded by things (and doing a bit too much retail therapy) is not worth it, it just adds too much stress to my life. it’s like it’s all literally sitting on my shoulders. so, new year, new decluttering goals 😃

Just found you the other day & have been watching tons of your videos...My house most resembles this stage. I have been getting rid of tons & realizing how much stuff I own that I don't really enjoy, that actually hold negative feelings for me? Like stacks of self-help books cluttering my space, highlighting all of things I don't like about myself. I only realized that today, and it made getting rid of them a lot easier! Anyway, thanks for your honesty, it's encouraging to know I'm not the only one struggling.

I watched a bunch of the other videos first, so its crazy to see this now. I would seriously just roll over and lay on the floor if I thought about starting a project this big. But you did, and the results are amazing. There are sooooo many lame videos on how to organize a desk drawer or tea shelf on youtube. This channel is so much better. This is my go to for inspiration now. I'm working through my house which is small and not as messy, but I still have some of the same problems and I need the motivation from your channel all the same. Thanks!

I found one of your pictures on instagram a couple days ago, and am now hooked on your videos! Watching you clean/purge/debrief is strangely relaxing and therapeutic! I am on a similar journey, my hubby and I are also messy people and when we moved just over a year ago I really had to look at myself in the metaphorical mirror and come to grips with the amount of stuff we had accumulated since getting married a couple years prior (or had held onto since who knows when). In the last year we have downsized about half of our stuff (even while adding baby #2 to the family), and in the process of getting fed up with our mess, I have FINALLY gotten over the desire to keep things just because or because of the dreaded "someday I might use this". Thanks for being real, and making me feel not so crazy or weird :P Keep on keeping on, you can do this!!! :D :D :D

This is the process I'm going through. I'm getting there! I make my bed every day now for months, and have kept the bathroom, living room, dining room, and kitchen quite clean on a daily basis. The laundry room is much better but needs a bit more work. And everything else--especially my garage needs a ton of work.

Wow. This is the most honest video. Subscribed. Thanks for sharing your journey. After trying to help multiple people when they had no place to live, my house has been destroyed. Slowly but surely I’m getting it back to normal. My garage is filled with eight different people of past roommates’ junk. I have felt so guilty trying to throw it away. I have asked them multiple times over the past six years to pick it up and they haven’t. 😣 I’m going to start throwing things away. I think one through six years is enough time that I gave them to pick up their stuff. Glad You are sharing your journey with us. Sending you strength.

You have a great office space. The funny thing is, once it's organized and beautiful it's almost like you WANT to keep it clean and organized. It truly makes work more enjoyable if you enjoy the space. That's how it was for me and laundry. At our last apartment, I had an AMAZING laundry closet. Not even a room, a closet, but it was so beautiful to me. I smiled every time I opened it. At my current place, I have a tiny stacked washer and dryer and I'll admit, laundry is now less fun. :(

I'm really excited to catch up on the whole series - I saw a later ep and came back here to watch in order. I am currently living minimally, but only because I moved countries and had to leave all my stuff behind, and have been living alone since then. I've been worried about some time in the future when I may start a family, and preemptively freaking out about how to handle things (useful, I know.) I am happy to see a real life example of what can be done.

Style of videos, style of how your home looks after you de-clutter it... etc. I just came to the revelation that I truly am a hoarder on Labor Day, about a month ago. Like you, not dirty, just cluttered. Go Girl!!! I will continue to watch whatever you put out there. I'm inspired! I just got rid of 2 things today on an app called LetGo. One for money, one given away. It's a start! I also (besides my messy 1 bedroom apartment that EVERYTHING is stuffed into) have a 7x10' storage locker!! The things I got rid of today (that took a week to come to this point!) were from this storage. Like you said above, "I've decided to change that. For real." For real!!

"Sofa, forever a temporary dog bed" - I was laughing so much. I have two cats and our sofa is the same*haha* "and a plant, but I don't know when I watered it last". Oh my god, that could be me!! My sad dried out plants. Poor unfortunate souls...xD "dirt bags. Maybe it's garbage. Maybe it's not". I am so glad others are the same! Sometimes we are too lazy to stow away things the right way. Like documents...and we just throw everything into a bag or a box. Bad habit. "we just don't care" - SO TRUE! My husband and I are the same...in 2 weeks we are finally moving into our own new house and we swore to each other to be better in the future and take good care of our new home. We don't want to be messy...but...eh. Whatever*shrug* :P At the moment I am throwing out/giving away all the useless stuff and only pack things that really matter to us. It's not easy. But at the same time it's really therapeutic and I feel good afterwards. :) I like people like you the most. People who are honest and don't pretend to be perfect. No one is perfect and it's actually really refreshing and likeable when someone opens up about their quirks ^^ And I really like your positive attitude! I just subscribed to you. It's very motivating to know that others are the same and want to change. Together it's more fun, isn't it? :)

I really enjoy your videos. So many of the videos about organizing and minimalism are from people who are naturally organized. I am DEFINATELY not but I do try. It is nice to know that someone else is in the battle with me.

Good for you! My place looks similar (I mean the mess not the house--I am in a small apartment) and I have just begun decluttering Konmari-style. It's wonderful to remind ourselves that (1) we're not alone and (2) we have the power to change! Good luck and thank you for the inspiration.

Good luck!!!! Congrats on stepping out of your comfort zone. It's so hard when all you can see is the chaos. I understand completely and will be cheering you on from NC! Love your responses too in the comments. You react with such grace and honor for others. KZbin commenters can be harsh sometimes. Looking forward to more from NC.

I think we could be best friends!! Thank you for you bravery and honesty. We live in a very narrow small guest house; built for short stays, but we've lived here over 5 years. Needless to say we've grown out of the space and piles are on every single surface. It just happened it seemed. I work away from home A LOT and come home long enough to throw my bags inside, repack new bags using some stuff from the previously mentioned bags then leave.....just to come back and do it again. After 2 and a half years it's utter chaos! I'm rootin for you hun! If you can do it, I can too!!!

Thank you! You're right, you CAN do it! I'm similar to you - I'm so busy (and I used to work in an office outside of my house), so I'd come home and all my stuff would just land on counters, the floor, the railing, chairs, etc. I'd just unload wherever I could so I could get onto the next activity. Not a good habit. Good luck!!

Girl, do I ever feel you! I was verging on hoarder territory 5 years ago.... I too recently opened up on KZbin about my struggles and it is terrifying opening yourself up on the internet. I am always afraid that people are going to see my dirt or mess and judge me.... but you know what... we are not alone in this... and I KNOW that the majority of people out there have homes like yours or mine and not the perfect pristine ones other people show off. Thank you for being real, I love your channel, it inspires and encourages me

Thank you for the comment (and for watching!). It is scary, but so far the reactions have been really positive, and I think it's because of what you said: we're not alone! Lots of other people have homes in similar states, it's just not talked about enough. Good luck with your journey! :)

I applied the KonMari method to my place. It took me 3 months, but it's really worth it. Now I feel like my place stays organized without effort. I think it is important to mention that the KonMari method has 2 steps: declutter and organize. When I started I thought that the first step would be the hardest, and the longest. But actually, the organizing part is what took me the most time. It is what make the method effective. Finding the right place for an object can take a long time, but once you have it, it feels like the object goes back to its place by itself.

That's encouraging to hear! I know one of my biggest problems has been that I don't have homes for things, but it's been hard for me to find 'homes' when I'm still in the process of purging. (Though I suppose that's the point of purging first). :) Great to hear it worked for you. I'm looking forward to getting to that point!

Wow! 😳 This took a lot of guts! Just wondering...do y'all ever have company??? If I lived like that I would never let anyone in my house. If my house is messy at all, I don't even answer the door...lol... Well, good for you!!! You can do it!!! This was the first step in any addictive situation...admit it and fix it! We all have our weaknesses... And occasionally, if everyone admitted to it...we all can be messy and I'm sure, that there are worse houses then yours. The trick is to not let it get out of hand. You've got this!!! 💃 Btw, if you never would of admitted this...to look at you, no one would of ever guessed that your house was like this. We're here to help you stay on track if you need us...well, I am. You're absolutely hilarious! Thanks for sharing your life with us and your great tips! 💕💕💕
