This is what has happened to me. I remarried (YEARS AFTER) my husband died suddenly. Of course "AFTER" the honeymoon phase, I now realize what a mistake I've made. I want to much to climb out of this mess, and I have fallen back into the depression I faced as a young girl who was bullied relentlessly due to medical issues that weren't diagnosed properly until CT-Scan Technology came to be. ( I had water on the brain commonly known as Hydrocephalus). I was amazing wife and mom for 29.5 yrs until I lost my husband to an ER doctor's neglect. When I remarried, it was pretty obvious that I goofed. (It's 12:07 am and 2nd hubby just "lied" about no having cigarettes to go to the "bar" 1-2 miles from the house). About 4 yrs ago, (shortly after the marriage) I started not doing the housework. It has gotten so out of hand, I don't know what to do. I know all the things about starting out small 10-15 minutes a day with 3-4 boxes to sort things and get rid of what I don't need....but it's getting started that I have issues with. IF you have any other suggestions.....please advise. I truly need help. THANKS for this video....so so much!

I don’t comment on videos usually, but I felt like I needed to share. When you said the client was going through a separation it really struck a chord with me. I’ve been there. Everything is chaos. Everything sucks. Survival mode is an over statement. I had a close friend come over when I was going through a divorce years ago, she helped get my house back in order so I could have a fresh start. That is hands down one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me. Thank you for what you do, the impact is so helpful at times like these. My daughter is there now. Husband of 10 yrs decided he preferred his colleague and put my daughter out. From having been a wonderful home-maker, she now is forced to juggle studying, work and the children (50-50) on her own.....too much! 😢😢 The place is a mess 😞 When the children are with her she wants to spend that precious time with them. (So understandable) When they go for the week (emotionally draining) 😥 it's got into such a state, she's so overwhelmed and doesn't know where to start. (The youngest started wetting the bed most nights) It breaks her heart as she was so organized before! She also has to catch up on studying that week. I help where I can (mostly laundry and some cleaning) and we get things organized, but in no time, it's back as it was. A big problem is that people love her so much and want to help out by giving loads of stuff, furniture, clothes..... (People are so nice!!!) But she can't say no! Bags and piles of clothes, furniture 'make-over projects' ..... So yes, a whole lot of sadness can lead to situations like this. Sorry if I bored anyone with my story...

I can't find the motivation to actually start somewhere bc I feel like giving up even before putting my hands on the mess. I feel overwhelmed, exhausted. This video did help me in a way, I'm not sure if I can do it, but rest assured I made a plan where to begin, which sections to choose first, etc. after all... I just finally got my house together after living here a year and 2 months. I moved in to a nasty house full of someone else’s furniture. Then for 8 months I had 3 nasty roommates in a tiny two bedroom. I scrubbed the mattress that was here because it was comfortable but pretty dirty, on my front porch with bleach laundry soap and liquid fabric softener, then hosed with hot hot water from the tap, there were bed bugs in that room. Got rid of them by doing that, and putting a zip up bed bug cover on the mattress. the box spring was stripped to the wood, hosed that and the frame with hot water. Did the rug the exact way with bleach soap and hose. Scrubbed empty room (no carpet) walls, floor, and window. Put bed bug powder everywhere and put everything back. It was nice and clean for like two months but then everything got icky again because I was depressed plus my roommates kept the rest of my house disgusting. forgot to mention their two nasty dogs. My rug got black from ppls shoes on it. Bed bug powder everywhere for months. Then they finally moved out 8 months later, and I got a roach problem due to the disgusting lady next door moving out and her gas getting turned off in the middle of winter. Covered my entire apartment (I live in a 4 apt house so I went to each apartment basement and hallway and did the same) in boric acid and diatomaceous earth. the apartment next to me had millions of roaches. Theyre still currently dead everywhere over there. The property manager here is depressed as well and just let go. There’s also furniture outside the whole house and in the basement just wet rotted and nasty. I’m trying so hard to get him motivated but he’s not budging. So finally after having powder all over my house for two months, plus getting storage items together planning for when I eventually get it together, because this house only has one tiny closet, I got fed up. I had this giant 3 shelf closet type Cubby hole shelf taking up my whole kitchen. Everything was just so nasty ugly and depressing. And stinky. I got up and just started cleaning decluttering and organizing. I scrubbed all windows and frames in the house, scrubbed cabinets inside and out, scrubbed the rugs again, cleaned ceiling fans, got rid of all powder, scrubbed all floors and rooms one by one and set each room up. scrubbed kitchen sink, counters, stove, bathroom, bathtub, toilet, sink, floors, changed all hardware in the bathroom to more fancier toilet paper holders hooks and towel racks. unpacked all decor to set around the house, cleaned all my things off in sink, painted my ugly outdated 3 piece matching living room table set, now it’s black and the coffee table has two glass panels, they turned out gorgeous. Also added a pretty icky looking glass table with a leather frame that I cleaned up very nicely, and have my parents urns on it. Someone gave me a beautiful leather couch, and have my mom’s gray frosted glass tv stand, and just bought a 55 inch 4K smart android tv yesterday to put on it. I Painted a nice dresser white and changed knobs to satin nickel cabinet knobs on it for my nail storage, and customized painted white and changed hardware to the same satin nickel knobs on this old ugly hutch into a desk and display for my nail polishes, now I have a nail room, set up beautifully. I painted black and put together a glass kitchen table from just a frame and glass top, added suction cups, raised it up, and got two nice barstools. Put two red place mats and some red roses in the center, and set it between my two kitchen windows, with matching black and white 3 piece curtain sets, which all curtains have been washed before putting up. My bedroom was set up nicely but my cats spilled red juice on my rugs so they need to be cleaned a third time, and now that the rest of the house is pretty much done I just stored the last of the clutter in my bedroom for now, so it’s the only unfinished room. But it has that nice cubby hole shelf in it, a nice black glass tv stand, a newer 32 inch flatscreen, my nice clean bed, a dresser, and stand up mirror. I’m going to be painting this dresser and have one more small dresser for my boyfriend and that will get rid of most of the clutter in here. Then I have to go around the house and hang all my pictures, clean a cupboard to hang in my kitchen to get rid of a few dishes I didn’t have room for, build some shelves in the closet to turn into linen closet to get rid of the rest of the clutter in my bedroom, clean two more ceiling fans, my air conditioners, change out some curtain rods to the fancier kind around the house, scrub my bedroom when it’s emptied out and then I should finally be done!!! I have come a long way and still have a few big jobs to do. But it has been so worth it. I’m not going lie I needed the help of adderall, I mean clearly this was no easy task. It’s been a long journey and there’s a lot I didn’t mention. I’m just happy now to have a decent looking place. People actually say it’s nice. One more thing I really would like to do is paint all the walls in the house gray with white trim. Because the paint needs a refresh badly. Maybe possibly change the kitchen tiles but just a paint job would work wonders. I still let things go from time to time, but now it’s soo much less overwhelming, as it’s just a few dishes, dusting, sweeping and mopping. Just regular chores. I really hope everyone can get their houses together, because I know how it feels. It makes you more depressed, overwhelmed, exhausted, and embarrassed. Just wanted to share my journey. I wish KZbin allowed photos

I have no time to clean but I'm still stuck doing it myself. My husband and kids won't lift a finger to help. I fight with them on a daily basis but with no success. There's boxes left unpacked with items from my husband's defunct computer business old broken furniture tools etc that fill up the house and garage. He refuses to go through any of it so I don't know what's garbage or not. He complains I don't clean the house the right way but won't get off his ass and do it himself. I tell him do it yourself but he comes up with every excuse not to. It's overwhelming and stressful to live in garbage but I still try to do what I can. This is the first video of yours that i've seen and i just wanted to say i love your approach. You don't judge, you don't condemn or criticise or even speculate about how or why someone has got into the state they're in. You're kind and practical and helpful and that means a lot. I get depression once every few years and my space ends up like this when it's bad. I have my mothers voice in my head telling me i'm lazy and disgusting. if i had a voice like yours instead saying put piles here, try and tackle small areas at once, categorise etc that would be so much more useful. I don't believe anyone chooses to live like this and nobody WANTS to live like this. it ends up like this for a reason. What that reason is isn't our business, but people need kindness, non-judgement, support and clear, focussed, practical help when even getting out of bed is overwhelming, and you do just that.

I know this well my dear. Some days even showering or brushing my teeth is impossible. My psychotherapist told me about a trick as following Set an alarm to 10 minutes. In these 10 minutes you go through the apartment and pick up things or collect garbage or dishes or something similar. The trick is that 10 or 5 minutes a day are a short period of time, even if you are depressed you can try it. And you have experienced a small success. Best wishes

My mum used to be like this. She died 4 years ago. After that, my tidiness deteriorated a lot. Last year, I lost both my grandma (was like a second mother to me) and a very close friend who died of a drug overdose. I fell into a deep depression I stopped trying to keep things tidy whatsoever, and eventually my room became this. I’ve been scared to tackle it, it’s become a ridiculous, pathetic mental wall that’s prevented me from sleeping properly, filled me with paranoia and shame and honestly it’s even made me turn down sex. Seeing this has made me realise that I can break this! I know that this will all sound stupid to a lot of people, because with many mental illnesses, rational behaviour goes out the window. I am the same way with clothes. I was a shopoholic and finally figured out why. I would have absolutely loved a non-judgmental friend to come and help me learn to do these things. I am learning on my own now and it’s a daunting task. Our house was always a mess growing up and I never learned how to organize or the “everything has a place” method. We had way too much stuff and nowhere to put it so when we did have to pick up, it was impossible. We never threw anything away and later when I tried to get rid of really old things I was yelled at, called selfish and messed up, and told I was, “throwing away my childhood”. Should have been a huge red flag that I come from an abusive family but it took me years to finally figure that out. Anyway, the effects of that I am still dealing with and some of it is physical clutter and some emotional. Not a good combo! I hope you continue to be kind and help others who truly appreciate it. Just because she did not deserve your help and loyalty doesn’t mean there aren’t people out there who do. Much love. 💕

Seriously, I would never have imagined it was like that. 2 days ago I passed out again. Anyway, I can't work so money is veeeeery tight but I had to hire a cleaning lady, I just can't do everything myself. Now, on the lockdown she can't come in anymore and I try to do my best but I can already see the difference :-/ If someone was helping me declutter I would be eternally grateful (I mean, I'm already are for my cleaning lady, and I'm paying her!), and I would offer them my art constantly... if they liked it ^^ I hope this bad experience did not prevent you for doing anymore good deeds, you'll find lots of people in need for help!

as someone whos got severe anxiety and severe depression, this is eerly similar. i will have motivation but when seeing my room, i freeze up and thinking of everything that could go wrong when wanting to clean due to it being the same reason why it got that way in the first place. being yelled at by parents for leaving room often for anything, being put down and yelled at for throwing away so much stuff to being yelled at for having trash and dishes.. it was a "Damned if you do, damned if you dont" situation for years.. luckly im finally in a better mindset and with the quarantine, i finally have a reason to get it done. though downside is that its a tiny kids room piled high with an entire wall dedicated to a closet which doesnt help when 5 steps takes you from the door to the back of the room.
@zuzuspetals9281
@zuzuspetals9281 4 жыл бұрын
@@oianony7098 Start with tiny bits - pick through and throw out obvious trash, dirty dishes, food containers, empty boxes first, and get that out of the room. Then go on to picking through linens and towels wash and put them where they belong. Move on to books, papers, photographs, and put them in a box that you can sort through one or two evenings while you watch tv or listen to music. Then throw all the clothes on the bed and shoes in a box, go through them one evening while you listen to music and sort into piles of trash, give away, wash, and keep. After those clothes are cleaned up move to the closet and do the same, put them all on the bed and sort through them. This may take a few weeks but eventually, you'll move through it and have it done. Throwing out the trash is the first step to making room to work on the next steps. Here I am telling you this when I have two rooms that badly need cleaning like this and several small closets. It's hard to do when you're depressed. I have the added issue that most of the stuff I need to go through belongs to my husband who is a hoarder and not me, so tossing things is much more difficult. He won't help with the process and I can't get help to move larger items. That made me angry, then sad and depressed, a feeling of no control. I'm going to give it a try again and just not ask but do what I think is right. The trick is to keep him from going through the trash before they pick it up! Let's both try to clean our small spaces so we have peace of mind and know we are doing it for ourselves and not for others. Clean your space to make you happy and don't worry what your parents say because they'll never tell you what you want to hear - "Good job, Oi, this looks spectacular!" So do it, and good job, Oi, your room looks amazing!"

@@laceandbits it may not necessarily be negative but it wasn't positive which is what I said in my first comment. The reason I have a problem with these comments is because when someone's already feeling so overwhelmed or depressed that they are unable to get on top of things like cleaning their house the last thing they need is s*** talk and/or unsupportive comments in their life. Lol. it was pointed out that this woman's going through a divorce which is one of the most difficult most painful and most stressful things someone can go through in life. I don't think it's a mystery as to why she's having issues with cleaning. If people would stop being so judgmental and high and mighty and learn to empathizeand understand the roots of people's behaviors instead of just shallowly judging those behaviors the world be a better place.

I was in your situation healthwise in 2018, but it doesn't take a lot of energy to sit with a small pile of paperwork and sort it out, or to pick one extra piece of clothing up off the floor in the morning as you get dressed. Start with a very small area where there's not too much stuff and over several days get that sorted and creep out from there. You won't have the energy to scoop everything up onto the bed like happened here, so no instant results, but take pleasure in one clear patch of carpet or cupboard top and watch the space grow. If I could do it, you can too.

The 15 minute rule of Flylady is my savior. I retired after a debilitating illness and may never be able to clear a closet in one go again, but today I was able to declutter a dresser, re- fold all the t shirts and fit everything in there neatly. Tomorrow I plan to do another one, 15 minutes at a time, lol.

@@mirandasanchez823 Then you can't be that dissatisfied with your surroundings or that would be your motivation. Even as an unmotivated person you can get in the habit of doing small but regular bouts of tidying and/or cleaning (15 minute rule as Jessie says) and if you start with the very worst places you get the biggest boost from what you achieve. Even one small clear and polished table top, one tidy shelf or another bag of rubbish for the bin can be an enormous encouragement. The point is that now you have one small place to be proud of, and by tomorrow that place will be twice the size. Make a bit of a game of it. The other thing is that many days, unless you are restricted by health which you say you aren't, having started your 15 minutes will actually be 20, or 30, or longer. It can be very addictive seeing all the beautiful clean clear space you've been wasting.

This is such an amazing transformation ! I’m sure the homeowner slept well that night ! 💙 My room is full of clothes and a dumping ground for stuff the kids don’t want anymore . You have inspired me to start working on it a little at a time . Depression comes in so many forms and just seeing the floor again lifts some of the fog .

I could feel the carpets rejoicing when you vacuumed!!! Boy was that a lot of paper. Such a dramatic before and after, I'm sure the homeowner loved it. One of the reasons I was glad it's Sunday is because I knew you would be on with another astounding video. May you be blessed for all you do. I think the bathroom should be the next attempt! Thanks!!

This was my first time seeing any of your videos. I spent 3 to 4 hours today on my bedroom. I have a painful back and a painful knee so I can only stay in different positions for a short period of time. I am getting ready for an inspection on my apartment. I could be written up an even evicted if I don’t get it done. Today is January 1st, 2020. I accidentally came across this video when I had finished for the day. I’m finished for the day but the room was not finished. So I laid down flat to ease my pain and I watched your video. It is a God Send. I really needed to see this. I felt so alone and overwhelmed but now I can watch the videos and feel like I’m not the only one who needs to clean and organize . Thank you so much and thank you for being kind. It will help me to be kinder to myself. God Bless You. (Yes,of course I subscribed and I will be watching every video of yours I can find.)

But even from the opening sequence I was excited to see how you were going to tackle the space because of the size and design of the room. Another great job.

This is my life. My house. I have had continuous life changing issues for the last ten years+. Including loss of a child, and professional career of 22 years + at one business. It was sold n moved to Ohio. Addiction to depressions and anxiety meds. An accident with major physical injuries. My husband has spinal stenosis and recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s. My house is like this but older and furniture is falling apart. Constant marital problems I can’t seem to deal with. I need help before I have another breakdown. Help so I can get to the bottom of my mental issues I’ve numbed and not addressed. Face my current status, accept my loses, start to heal. Face reality. Get mental and physical therapy. Move forward, if possible. It does not make me feel good that other women are in the same situation, but Lord, I’m not alone. And, there is help out there for us who have fallen on rough times. It is mental and physical issues that snowball. A room doesn’t get like this overnight and believe me, it doesn’t get fixed overnight either. As in this room, my bedroom is a trail of evidence of everything that has taken place. Tons of cloths. Mostly new, to accommodate a weight gain, and inability to even keep up with laundry. I don’t even go shopping. I order things on line. I need help, I’ve had enough of people saying just do something. I’ve lost so many friends who have either moved or passed away, I decided I wanted to just move too. I have no support system here anymore after over 40 years in the same house. My daughter is working two and no time to help. I need to pay someone to help me get on track. Where are you located? I’m actually in a suburb of Los Angeles, CA. This type of help would be such an incentive. Here is where I live and I can’t live like this. Every piece of paperwork, document, receipt, clothing. Everything from the time my life started falling apart is here in this bedroom. With me on top of the piles. This is called hoarding, and it is part of my mental breakdown.
