So I was out playing air soft with a friend and all his friend’s . We had stopped for a water break and started chatting, video games came up and I had said I was playing Space Hulk a warhammer game if you’ve ever heard of it. They all just looked at me with a grin and were like “ya we know warhammer”. Turns out everyone of them had full 40K army’s. They invited me to join their discord and I was hooked after that!

Yea... Also... Stuff doesn't need to include characters looking like me for me to be able to relate to these characters. The whole point about fictional settings is, that people can let loose from reality. In role-playing they get to go further than what they are limited to in real life or they get to deal with unique flaws they don't experience in real life. A petite, kind woman might choose to play a halfork barbarian without manners that could throw an ox. On the other hand a big guy might decide to play a sneaky, shy halfling. Same applies to choosing warhammer factions. I also like a movie that makes me relate to a character that has nothing that I ever experienced myself and I can still understand their actions and emotions by being able to depict why the character is send in to that path of actions.

As someone who served 10 years in the British army (Royal Welsh, infantry). That air soft story made me cringe so hard, especially the last part about writing using his "tactical knowledge" I after 10 fucking years + multiple deployments don't have enough knowledge to write about it. And if you have ever been in actual combat zone know it's 90% boredom and 10% shitting yourself. And getting into an actual contact us very different to what people believe, it's not like the movies and I 100% guarantee it's not like Airsoft it's slow, methodical, with burst of pure aggression and speed. Then back to slow, that's the vast majority obviously there are outliers. Anyway I'm new here I just had to say something about that story, what I have listed to far has been excellent, love 40k thanks to finding a gaunts ghosts book in pb4 in Afghan, been addicted to the lore since and building and painting the models, but haven't had a game yet, I'm a bit sceptical about the crowd in the Cardiff gw store, but I'll eventually get a game in touch wood (Ork and space wolves player)

I know there is some flip-flopping on the actual ethnicity of vulcan, but in the old images he clearly has european facial features. Maybe some newer lore changed though.

I think on the point of the primarchs, the loyalist primarchs, I agree about, but it would seem to me that the traitor primarchs represent more the bad and horrors of European History being in a way as the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The Death guard maybe representing the horrors of the plagues and diseases of Europe which hurt them but that they would also bring to other they would meet when trading with or colonize. The Night Lords and Alpha Legion representing the war crimes, use of terrible means of warfare causing disease and suffering while also referring to the less "honorable" ways of warfare such as fear tactics, assassinations, etc. The World Eaters being blinded by honor and the desire for glory being the noble and generals in Europe's past that just wanted a "nice little war" to gain honor back home. while the Word Bearers represent the dangerous side of the religious history of Europe. In the end, this is just a theory.

as a long time wolves fan: too much wolf in my wolf. i got in for the viking/iceworld trappings. my Jarl even has a gorget on his armour that i sculpted to look like a wall of ice rising out his armour. i like the knotwork and runes you could freehand into all the corners. now it's just too much wolf this and wolf that like no one knows how to write them any more.

@@Matty10thDVN there is WWII reenactment airsoft too. They just started really making the bolt action rifles cheap enough to be somewhat viable. I owned a cybergun airsoft Thompson, they are very good but I would make sure you find one that comes with or is compatible with wood furniture.

The air soft guy basically described a easy 2 mil in costs.... Infrared equipment, pyrotechnical equipment, BLOCKS the man said city blocks. Multi story buildings. Staff alone for an event that size far exceeds volunteers. A PA system for music and "battle sounds". Don't even get me started about insurance for a place where what sounds like children and adults throw pyrotechnical grenades at each other. Such bullshit

Hey, I also play Templars, you likely know this by now but you can definitely use the Assault Intercessors and Lieutenant in a Templar army. The lieutenant model would look great in Templars livery. What did you decide on as a next purchase? I'd suggest Eradicators for holding back field objectives and some needed firepower. Chaplains are also never amiss in a BT army.

@@solairesunpraiser That's awesome, it's cool to hear how you've progressed since that initial post. I really like the aesthetic of T. Sons but they have a lot of filigree that I can't be bothered trying to paint. And, I mean, who needs a psychic phase? An apothecary and eradicators are a combo that works well together in my experience if you can sink the points into it. Helbrecht is an absolute beast in combat, based on the two games I've played since I picked him up, and the new sculpt is great. I really like the Redemptor as well, if you know someone with a 3d printer there are some great third party Templar specific armour panels for it which can really make it stand out on the table. I've not run my judiciar very often, he is good in melee and I've found that having the other unit fight last is situationally useful but I usually wind up finding something else to take his place in the elites slot. That being said, I'm no expert, more knowledgable people may differ in their opinions and there are many different ways to run an army.

@@askeytheman no, he was jumbling up my write-up pretty hard on that paragraph because of his own lack of experience on the subject matter and there being a lot of acronyms and parentheses breaking it up that I needed to introduce. It was an explanation that only the SAW gunners fire on full auto and can't fire inside buildings per the rules whereas rifleman and medics are all firing on semi-auto and can shoot indoors. I did proofread before submitting, but I didn't read it out loud and where I made my mistake was the amount of parentheses I used in regards to the acronyms and information such as rounds per magazine because it breaks up the flow of reading it out loud. I thought I had to because I had no expectation listeners knew the acronyms but wanted to introduce them so as to use the acronym later in the story. Of course there is no AAR (After action report) for North's readings, but I will take responsibility for errors I actually make. But like the story, I am perfectly capable and willing for my position to be under heavy attack and for me to return fire when the angles and opportunities present themselves lol

That guy got what SAW means WAY wrong SAW stands for Squad Automatic Weapon, semi automatic means it fires one time every time you pull the trigger and you have to let up off the trigger and squeeze it again to shoot it.

Knights, all europeans grow up with medieval tales the coolest thing is always a knight. To me the coolest thing is a knight, a hissar a sarmat with a sabre. As this is the myths you grow up with. What are japanese stories always about? Cool samurai, and if the story is set in europe the knights are usually not knightly at all and there is some rogue Samurai better than the knights. What are Bollywood stories about? Indian people. Who is the protagonist of most Wuxia stories? A chinese guy learning martial arts. It's really not bizzarely hard to figure out that someone's culture and upbringing influences what their worldbuilding will be like and what they find cool. There's a reason there is no cowboys in 40k, because if americans made it there would be cowboys, trust me. So yeah that's what I can tell the brows "stop being a cultural parasite, write your own stories and settings" and nobody bans you from reading media from other cultures instead of bizzarely demanding a white british guy starts writing stories about african zulu warriors.

You can quite easily say that the primarchs are white because they are made from the DNA of the emperor, and that the space marines are white because of DNA again. Though there is argument to say that there's no reason you can't give gene seed to people of colour. But if you just forget about the chapter of space marines for the moment, there is a massive lack of coloured representation in the imperial guard, and in the sisters of battle. this is probably because the game warhammer 40k is popular in countries that are dominantly white. But it is pretty sad to see GW not making more of an effort to show people of colour in the game. Remember, holy terra is the whole planet, and people of all races live on it.

You can paint your models any color you want if that’s important to you. And make lore for any home brew unit you want. I mean guard units come in every shade of human. Sisters of battle can probably be painted any color as well, I mean I don’t know if any lore that says they are all white.

Sure you get some real pricks in warhammer but playing with dice and little plastic men who you've painted and are clearly fictional vs dressing up in military garb, using replica firearms, playing in abandoned military facilities, having battle sounds played over speakers etc. Yeah you see the difference. If you just want to play a fps area shooter irl then what's wrong with paintball? Is it because it doesn't look "realistic" enough? There's a reason airsofters have the reputation they do, there are a lot of joe nobodies who think they're Billy Badass because they do milsim when really they wouldn't last a week in basic training.
