Hoka one one clifton edge is a spinoff of the ten nine and hoka clifton 7. this is faster version of the clifton , almost like a nike pegasus turbo version of a Clifton.

Ugh, got a bad case of ITBS after running downhill too quickly which put me out for 5 months. Learned a valuable lesson from that.

Good review. My understanding is that they run long as with many Hoka's, but they fit deep. Sounds like many runners need to pull the laces together to get a good lock down.

I watched several reviews for Clifton Edge yesterday, including yours, and i ordered several pairs... Color: Color Multi get by Aug 1 Color: Cloud Green get by Sep 3 Color: Indigo get by Sep 3 Don't think tread will last long... I'm thinking 150 miles, but hope can get 250 miles... Plus ordered following: Bondi 6 ( all black ) Bondi 6 ( all white ) Clifton 6 ( all black ) Rincon 2 ( Blue Moon ) Rincon ( black / white ) ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ I'm going order TenNine since Clifton Edge is so perfect... TenNine is so much more massive in size & foot print that coming down hill on trails will be like rollercoasters ride... 😥😥😥 It's not available in my size... ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Thanks for your review... Really liked your review... You're one of the few who actually showed & reviewed shoe running down hill... Many just reviewed shoe without wearing it, just specs & theoreticals... Others ran on level surfaces & no down hills... Only reason I'll be getting & trying this shoe is primarily for down hills... There might be some benefit on level surfaces, I'll see once i get them... So Again, Really Liked Your Review... I'm going to check out some of your other reviews.

While I Love the Clifton Edge... The Outsole isn't lasting at all... The outsole, which is really Rubberized EVA midsole engineered with raised sections for traction... ...is wearing faster than any shoes I've ever had... Are you still running in Clifton Edge? If so how many miles have you put in these shoes now... It is a very light & comfortable shoe that I can go fast in... But... At $160 that's too expensive for short lifespan of this shoe... ( i actually got 20% off, but still too expensive for short lifespan )... I actually ordered two pairs in different color ways: Pink / Orange : called Cloud / Multi Green / Blue : called Cloud / Green Still waiting for Green / Blue ~40 days I'm going to return both shoes....

Wait can we all take a min that nba hoodie tho! In all seriousness I really like the idea of this hoka is separates it’s self for the rest of the series. But at 160 dollars it’s seems like a lot. Would have loved it to be at 120-140 US dollars.

I just got my pair of Edges yesterday evening ( thu 7/30 ) and when i put them on i was totally blown away positively... Took, little effort, more than it does for any of my other shoes: dress, running ( road or trail ), gym, cycling, etc... But once I got feet in, laces cinched & tied and started walking around house... I was completely blown away with excitement, elation, joy, happiness... It was an awesomely, incredible moment & feeling... The Clifton Edge fit me better than a glove... The Clifton Edge fit me like perfect compression leggings... The Clifton Edge fit be better than perfect wet suit... I simply cannot explain it... I lack vocabulary & I'm at a lost for words to describe the feeling... The shoe was perfect ( feeling & fit wise ) and I have at least 50 or more pairs of brand new shoes: road & trail, just waiting to be used... Again, shoe fit like perfect glove, wet suit, was snug, but not too tight, there wss wiggle room in toe box, no heel slippage of any kind, cushion, springiness ( bounce, elasticity, resilience ) felt super good, great fabulous & wonderful... I'm so happy, elated & ecstatic that the Clifton Edges fits me so perfectly which means this shoe WILL NOT WORK for a lot of people, because my foot is long & narrow & my arches are mid to high... I Simply Love The Fit & Feel of the Clifton Edge... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So I immediately called online shoe store where bought Edge & told them thanks for getting shoes to me so quickly, within 36 hrs or so... i was expecting at minimum 3 to 4 days... I told them how great shoe felt, how happy, giddy, elated, ecstatic, excited i felt... I was besides myself with joy... I told them some may think these look like clown shoes with edge protruding & extending beyond heel, but I don't care... I told online shoe store over phone... These shoes ( Edge ) fit & feel so so so amazingly good I'm going to run like a clown up & down hills all night long... On serious note... Clifton Edge fit me so perfect & felt so perfect that i felt i could chase anyone down... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Call local shoe store ( same as online store ) see when they closed so I could come by and get custom, max cushion insole made for the Clifton Edge... I had less than hour... I put on compression leggings, tee, Clifton Edges & drove very, very fast ( street & freeway ) to shoe store ( 15 miles away ) before they closed... Had custom insoles made ( they warm up insoles, put them on this very pliable material and you stand on each insole straight up & down for 20 to 30 seconds, then holding onto handles in front of you lean all the way back with legs & arms straight for 20 to 30 seconds, then stand up straight then bend knees and lean forward holding position for another 20 to 30 seconds & then stand straight up again for 20 seconds & your done. Let insoles cool off for 60 seconds & then replace original insoles with custom insoles... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Then i drove to place where they have hills ( 1 mile up, 1 mile down, 1 mile up & 1 mile down )... To test the Clifton Edge... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was very skeptical when I first heard about Clifton Edge... Saw lots of reviews, all about specs, opinions, theoreticals, but no one having run in the shoe... I didn't like light gray uppers, pink & orange midsole, elf pull tab, elongated heel... But once I got them, put them on, they fit perfect & felt so good, I feel in love with them and everything about them... But would they perform on flat surfaces, up hill, and of primary concern & interest on downhills as advertised, promoted & claimed... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm completely happy to report & share that Clifton Edge delivered & performed better than expected in every way... The Edge is incredibly light, especially for such a big shoe... The Edge is very, very stable... The Edge is has right amount of cushion, but isn't squishy... Soft, but firm enough to pound payment and not bottom out... I initially thought Edge would be niche / specialty / specialized shoe for mostly or primarily down hills only... I thought elongated heel would seriously interfere on flat surfaces or positive inclines or hills of any positive grade... But I was wrong on all accounts... The Edge performed flawlessly.... Granted, I had custom insoles made & replaced original insoles from start... I came down hills so fast it was scary... The Edge fit so good, felt so good, it inspires you to run even faster... I'm a Heel Striker... As your heel touches down, the elongated heel greets, invites & welcomes & cradles heel earlier than would normally occur in regular shoe... And it gently guides foot from heel to toe & take off again... It's incredible & mind boggling... One has to experience it, words are inadequate... Imagine fighter jet on aircraft carrier... Fighter Jets on Aircraft Carrier are specifically designed to handle tremendous forces during landing... The Fighter Jets are coming in so fast it's sort a like a controlled crash landing & has cable that extends across deck that is used to grab hook extending from rear of fighter jet to slow it down... Well imagine if the deck on Aircraft Carrier could be lengthened, extended, elongated... Giving fighter jet more surface & time to land... The fighter jet would not be exposed to as much pressure... And that's sort of what the elongated hill does... For those who are HILL STRIKERS... The Elongated Hill Gradually Greets, Welcomes & Cradles Your Heel Earlier & Gently Guides & transitions Heel... As I Mentioned Earlier... This Shoe is Not For Most... It will definitely POLARIZE users as they will Either Love or Hate this shoe... Especially since there's no wide versions initially... If you're not heel striker probably won't like it... Edge fits like glove & surf / scuba wet suit.... So if your foot is wide in any areas, you won't like current release as there are no wide versions available... My foot is very narrow, so even if you don't have wide foot but your foot is not narrow enough, you won't like this shoe... If you don't like shoes that fit like glove or wet suit, you probably won't like this shoe... The Edge fit me true to size... It fits & feels perfect & didn't have to size up or down... Only concern is how long will sole last since there really isn't outsole... It's just modified EVA that's engineered to be a bit tougher & durable than rest of midsole

Mary, Have you ever run in Hoka Elevon 2? It also has an extended heel, but I've heard complaints about tongue not staying in place... Another thing I saw in another review about Edge is following & I sort of agree: Edge's Heel is so long & wide that it provides " light stability " & lightly controls / corrects motion from heel to toe; thus Edge could be labeled as " Light Stability Down Hill Road Racer " I'll have to put more miles in Edge to see if " light / additional stability " is an issue... I had so much fun confidently going down hill without any concerns because of the " stability " the elongated & wider heel provided...

The outsole looks like made of play-doh 🤣 no, seriously, would you choose these over a regular Clifton? I mean, I know they have a purpose (more control going downhill) but, beside that, should I really get these instead of the Clifton 7? Great review Mary Beth

What kind of mileage would you expect out of these? They look awesome but I've notice a lot of the shoes out there seemed break down that foam much quicker without the rubber on the bottom. Hoka is known for the cushion and for the mileage their shoes get, so I'm a little surprised to see that they might sacrifice the longevity of the shoe for better comfort for downhill. Thoughts?

I’m a big fan of the Clifton 6 and a terrible downhill runner so if that heel can help me then I’m interested. That said the lack of rubber on the outsole does worry me, both in terms of durability and grip. In one breath they say have this big heel to help you go downhill really fast and in the next they say but we’ve taken the rubber of the sole so you can only run downhill when it’s completely dry, hmmm. I live in the UK, it rains here occasionally, so I’d rather the shoe weighed a few more grams and had some outsole rubber on it
