+Graham Smith They said it quite often on the show. It's around a 3 second difference between a dry and wet lap. So you can have a rough estimate of the actual time. Which I would imagine to be about right as that means it's a few points of a second behind the 6.0 VZ variant they ran around the track in the dry. There isn't a huge difference between the 6.0 and 5.7 in terms of out right pace. Talking what a 15-20hp difference as standard between the GTO's.

Every time I see a Monaro I can't help but point it out. I would love to own a Monaro or a Holden in general. I want to have a Holden Commedore as my first car. Holden's are reliable, fast, built perfectly, safe and great cars. Now that Holden will no longer be building cars in Australia, it's sad to many Holden lovers. Even Ford will stop building cars here in 2016. I honestly really like the Ford Falcon. It's got a great shape and is reliable like a Holden.

holden is owned by GM. so its not an ozzy car its yank. its why the factories r being closed and shiped to the states. Vauxhall and Opel r the same cars as holden just with diff badges on them. Vauxhall probably make the monaro in the UK but use a diff name for it. Vauxhall, Opel and Holden r all the same company using the same designs just diff model names. Austin, morris, Riley and Woosley in the UK were all seperate companies but to cut building costs used the same basic design. IE Austin mini very basic car no thrills or extras. plastic seats. no guages on the dasboard just a speedo. no carpets or window winders. piece of string to open the door from inside. Morris cooper more mid range with a few extras fabric seats more guages ie they added a fuel gauge which the austin version didnt have, window winders and door handles carpets and a better engine. Riley used the same chasis and body but added more luxery stuff like wooden dashboard instead of metal. leather seats. and wings on the back for the tail lights to fit in.. woosley added even more stuff like a bigger radiator grill more like u would find on a rolls royce. Before GM bought out Holden, Vauxhall and Opel they were making top of the range cars and competing with rolls royce. now they just make poor quality cars as cheap as they can using very poor quality parts and sell them for far more than their worth. Opel is German and was an independant company. but holden is just the ozzy name for vauxhall and has always been part of the vauxhall company. Holdens might be bigger than vauxhall and have more power but thats due to having longer distances to drive than the UK and wider roads. but still the same cars.

No, The Holden Monaro/Commodore doesn't suck. They just showed exactly what it is. A simple, heavy, rear drive car that gets sideways very easily. It's what old school muscle cars were like, only this is slightly safer and more refined. They're really comfortable, seat five big blokes comfortably, and will still accelerate hard up a hill with those five blokes and their luggage on board. I own a Commodore wagon, and it's perfect for road tripping in a big continent.

@pegleg1992 Yes, the model seen here (and the VZ) was based on an Opel and had Chevrolet engine options. But the current (VE) Commodore was designed by Holden, and is built in Australia. Virtually all of the parts are made on site at the Elizabeth plant, and all of the engines (with the exception of the V8s, which are US-built LSs) are built in Port Melbourne. It doesn't get much more Australian than that. Chevrolet could stand to take a leaf from their book and stop outsourcing everything.

@anno250 The chassis wasn't just loosely based on "the Opel." The VT Commodore is built entirely on the GM V platform, which may have been revised quite a bit by you fine fellows but the foundations of the original German chassis are still there. Also I'm not arguing that the car, and company, isn't Australian. I'm simply saying that the engine and chassis aren't. I still call Monaros, Commodores, and our version, the Vauxhall VXR8, Australian.

Its actually a HSV tweaked Monaro CV8 with a bodykit. The SS is a 4 door. Sounds to me like the guy wasn't trying. Either that, or he was an utterly abysmal driver. I'm not denying that the Celica is a decent little car, but it won't do 1/4th mile in under 15. With the right driver, a GTO will do low 13's.

Stock Celica... The 2ZZ is the standard engine. The fact that a small car with a tiny engine is able to keep up with muscle cars is impressive by my standards. And it's not a GTO it's a Holden SS (more or less the same car but with small differences e.g. Holden has breaks from the 18th century).

The Pontiac Gto is just a standard Holden Monaro exported to America made by Holden in south Australia. One gives 297kw The standard gives 295kw The Vauxhall (Holden Monaro) Has some extra features the 2004 VXR is a HSV product and comes with short headers and a 2.5" dual exhaust system, it also has a uprated cold air intake, maf pipe and more agressive engine map. So they are both Holden monaros One is the Holden Monaro VXR8 or VXR Wich is Vauxhall in uk and America And the other is Holden Monaro cv8 wich is Pontiac Gto in america .

Actually shakybones 007, little correction needed. The V8 running gear is US sourced but the V6 engines are designed and made at Fishermans Bend. The way I see it is, if I'm employed by GM (parent company) and make a car for them, my work represents GM and not the geographical location of where I made the car. GM and Ford sets the engineering standards for the European market higher than the American market, because they need to. This may be reflective of American standards in cars, but not the car company. I find this whole argument as stupid as Ferrari Enzo versus Maserati MC12, since Fait owns them both.

Yes, the aptly named "captainschlongman" says that the V8 is Australian there in the 'Top Comments' section, but that is not all I was talking about. Holden is a company that was created by GM itself, it wasn't simply bought out the American company after being founded by Australians. It is an American company that operates in Australia. Apart from the Subaru Brumby, the Japanese don't make anything that qualifies as a ute. As for turbocharged, straight 6 sedans, some versions of the Toyota Aristo came with a turbo straight 6 (2JZ-GTE as found in the Supra). The Nissan Stagea GT stationwagon also had a turbocharged straight 6 (it came with the RB26 as found on the GTR). The B6 Liberty (Legacy, depending where you're from) had a turbo flat 6. Not inline, but close enough.
@Rekkless11 жыл бұрын
No not necessarily. But Lamborghini was started and has a long history with Italians. Holden always has been owned by Americans (at least while they were building cars). They use American engines, gear boxes and parts. Only the commodore and some Cruzes are made in Australia the rest of their fleet is made overseas. At least all Lamborghinis are owed, designed, manufactured and built in Italy by Italians. GM owns and operates Holden.

True, but OWNED by GM. Australian design, American Engines/transmissions. You guys only got a few models and very low spec ones at that. Missed out on every other model commodore and mainly the good ones

@@brocksinclair66my dream is to own a GTO(monaro ) Chevy SS(commodore) and hopefully import a UTE to the United States . I feel like I'm the biggest Holden fan in America 😂

No Joke. I should probably mention my celica just weighs a little bit over a tonne and that it has VVTL-i so a continuous torque curve is provided over a much larger section of rev's. All this technology adds up to 0-100kmph in 5.9 seconds. By the time I get to 80 the Holden is still spinning its wheels. I know the owner which is why we were fooling around.

@pegleg1992 The GTO/Monaro is Australian. The GTO was brought back by the aussies. The original was American, the new GTO/Monaro started in Australia 1st as of 2001, brought the the US later in 2004 b/c of demand. So by your logic, the manufacturer of the engine determines the country of origin. So Kia is German. As they use Mercedes-Benz engines is many parts of the world other than the US.

I saw them on my last trip to Australia in 2002 and I think they look better than the US Pontiac GTO version.

@TBustah There's nothing incorrect in your statement, but we are talking about the model seen in this clip.

maybe in aulstalia but defently not in the US. its just a GTO with a LSX LS1 LS2 depending on the year. parts are easy to find and is very reliable not to mention with a little money it will plain out whoop other cars.

@ozzyguy67 Bought it? they're the same company, Vauxhall's the British arm of GM, Holden's the Australian arm of GM and Pontiac was also General Motors. The Monaro uses a German chassis and an American engine and was designed and put together in Australia. so its a bit of a global car, It's quite a good combination i think. :)

Nope, still works wonders around corners, even handles better than most cars. Definitely better than a 5 series of the same time frame, just without the badge.

@WindwolfBlog your in luck then, the new series 2 holden commodore and variants of that model will be sold in the states very soon, but will be badged as chevi's
