Holden VT ABS Module replacement.

This is a common issue when all the warning lights come on.
Easily done at home with simple tools and at a fraction of the price and 20 minutes of your time.

Very good video he shows you all the lights that come on I had the same problem all those lights came on and the radiator fans came on so I knew it was the module from this video So i replaced the module all good now great job mate.

Had traction control, ABS, Air Bag lights coming up as well as thermo fans always running and air con not working. Done some research here and changed ABS unit with same type. All fault lights have cleared but thermo fans are still always running and air con still not working. Do I need to reset any faults with a scanner?

Sounds like you need to bleed the cooling system or the radiator is blocked...Try the bleeding bit first and see how ya go...Cheers mate.

It's a pretty common issue on VS-VT-VX Acclaim-Berlina-Calais V6's...Module was about $250au...Cheers Badger.

Hi Zig great video which shows what to do, so thanks for taking the time to upload for I guess a lot of battlers that can't afford a new car every few years. One thing i noticed on my LS1 Statesman is that the steering got very heavy, like i thought i had a flat tyre, the trip computer lost all functions eg instant fuel,av fuel. Lost AC, car was saying i was driving in Park, temp gauge stopped working, cruise control stopped along with the warning lights in your video with the oil pan light and the X in the corner of the climate control. Not all of these happen at the same time, sometimes the temp gauge will work and the cruise control will work for a short time but it's a hodge podge of lights, but always the abs light goes first, then shortly after traction, low traction, and airbag, and sometimes the oil pan light. Some how it disables the power steering totally, or at least to a big degree. I should also note that it's random at the moment, but lately it's been happening at least once every time i drive it. You can actually feel it in the car driving down the freeway when the lights turn off and you regain all functions once again. Hope to fix it soon. Cheers

Is there any way to get rid of the ABS altogether? I don't need it at all and would rather it wasn't there. Plus here in NZ they are approx $200 -$400 or more and I can't be farkd spending that sort of coin on stupid things like ABS modules. My 66 Chevy has no ABS and I can stop it moving just fine.

Unfortunately no but if you pull the ABS fuse it will revert to normal braking but the ABS light will be on.

You need to locate the number under the module and match it with the new module.

@@shanehodges1809 Are there any check lights.?...The speed sensor is in the rear of the trans...I would use a scanner to see if there is a speed reading before I went any further...If there is a reading then the speedo head is most likely the issue.

We bought it through AFI (Australian Fuel Injection)...Burson Auto Parts should be able to get you one too..You will need to take the module off and note the numbers on it...Good luck with it mate.

Mate I have a VS, VY, and a VZ. All V6's and the VZ obviously has the fragile Alloytec. Question is does this lesson for the day apply to all these models as well? Unit looks very similar on all of them.

My VT Calais L67 did text book case ABS Module fail & it was exactly to the letter as You demonstrated so simply & competently & my son showed me your Vid , we proved it & got a 2nd hand one wth 3 months warranty for $40 a year ago, still good , saved the day big time. I guess you tried the button in the glovebox..You will have to crawl through the rear seat and you should be able to open it then and see what's not working or broken then..

Here's what I've found...First scan the ABS and see the result..Could be anything from a fuse all the way to the module...Have a scan done and go from there mate...Any other lights stay on .?

i have had alot of mechanics talking absolute shit about bleeding the brakes changing the brake fluid ive had mechanics quoting me 1000s to do this i have alot thats got to be fixed on my car but i refuse to take it to any mechanic

You can gravity bleed it out easy on your own for the price of a bottle of fluid...Start farthest from the master cylinder and work your way around...

Not sure on the price of a module..A couple of hundred I think....If you want to confirm it you can unplug the module and all the other warning lights should go away except the ABS...Cheers mate.

Yeah mate, price here in NZ, is ridiculous. Not sure on Holdens price but no doubt it will be up there. Price i have seen is 2 places, about $500-$600+ But i have a electronic place that will repair for bout $220+Grand Slam Theft (GST)

UPDATE on my ABS module... NO FAULT FOUND. Thats good news for me but will be checking the terminals once i get it back. Possibly, a bit of corrosion on the pins. Anyone in NZ looking at this problem, good place, good service is "ANYTHING ELECTRONIC", they are Nelson based.

I'd rather repair it before the PCM takes over and makes you repair it...You had it scanned I expect.

Undo the ABS harness at the pump...It should communicate then but obviously show an ABS code...You can still drive it with the unit unplugged but again I'd rather fix it.

The other thing I hate with these is that valve for the heater that sits behind the engine goes and you think you'e got a blown head gasket, but really it's just that dumping water into the inlet manifold.. silly design if you ask me

Here's the funny thing Tom...Out of all the Holdens the Ecotec has many problems as time goes on but if they are serviced regularly they would go on forever..Yes inlet gaskets go after time (Same car is booked in for that too) and the odd oil leak here and there but all in all a pretty good engine..The Alloytec is a different kettle of fish...Thermostat housing at the back of the valley and just a turd of an engine with a very short lifespan depending on how they are treated and a shit to work on...Just my opinion..Cheers mate.

Yea especially if they went long distances between oil changes or the owner used the cheapest supercrap oil they could find in them kills those Alloytecs. Many of them were fleet and govt. vehicles so they were either serviced at ultratune or dodgy oil change places using those 44 gal drums of the cheap valvoline 'fleet' oil, thing is the alloytech is a DOHC engine and doesn't like abuse like the old buick iron block v6s could handle. I'm loving the 4G15 little 1.5 in my 02 lancer though. Runs like a swiss watch, quiet and literally sips fuel, I reckon I'd get almost 2 weeks out of a tank easy. And I only got it because it's a manual and it is pretty fun zipping around the backstreets.
