There are two normal caves you have not entered, yet. The first is west of the spawn across the river. The second is on the east coast near the silver arrow location. You can also bomb the wall on the upperleftmost screen, if I remember correctly.

As far as I remember, the total number of overworld caves remaining is this: Trees to burn: 1 (Southeast of vanilla Level 1) Caves on Death Mountain: 1 (the one with 2 rows of 4 armos) Raft spots: 2 Power Bracelet spots: 4, probably the Take Any Roads I'm pretty sure that his best chance is to go back into level 7 and find the item in there. Not that he remembers where it is...

I agree with going back to level 7. I don't recall it having a lot of rooms that need the ladder, but it does need the meat which he can buy. Given how many shops he's seen with the meat in it, it's almost like the randomizer wants him to go to level 7. He can also try the last tree to burn and the last cave on death mountain.

After Watching ProJared Plays! playing this randomized version I just had to try it out for myself. I ended up with a similar issue in not getting the ladder. I got owned having to start out in level 5. I got lucky: half of the triforce pieces were at max 5 rooms into each dungeon. In level 9 I could only find map and compass, but ended up finding the Zelda room in the corner where the red ring should have been. Zelda randomized will really test your skills. Jared is doing a lot better than I did and is quite enjoyable to watch.

As far as I remember, Fred (The creator of the randomizer) created some checks to make sure you don't get blocked by being unable to access certain upgrades, for example, the ladder won't appear in a dungeon that you require the ladder to go through

Jared, there are several places where you can use the recorder to cause a stairwell to appear. This is particularly true in the desert, and there's a spot where the recorder will make a stair appear to the south of the graveyard. Also, you *still* haven't burnt the tree just south of where level 1 normally is.

They probably made sure that items needed to progress, like the step ladder and power bracelet aren't in areas where you need to have said item to reach. Say ProJared, I don't know if this will help but try using the flute in the desert. From what I've seen on a map, one of the squares has a hidden staircase underneath the sand. I also don't know if the regular version of the game or the second adventure has this staircase. Plus the screen after you leave the lost woods has the same thing with the same problem.

Level 2 does not have a sidescrolling room. The game makes sure that any dungeon with shortcuts keep that amount of shortcuts, and same with item rooms. That means level 2 has no item rooms or shortcuts, but has one item lying out in the open. Level 8 will have 2 items, level 1 will have 1 item room and one out in the open, and so forth. Changing this up is very difficult due to how shortcuts are coded into the game.

Jared, I am beating my head against the wall watching you miss the same two hidden stairs over and over. One screen south and east of the original level 1, by the shore with the red sand monsters, the top bush on the right. Also, the screen in the northeastern corner of the wods with the two bear statues. The right one is a secret! Please check them and end your misery!

It's probably not possible, though at this point, what couldn't be...I have it in my head that Ganon is so prepared for Lank that he holds the step ladder and put the Silver Arrows just out of Lank's reach. Thus never being defeated!
