Drink your food, and chew your liquids - The purpose of food entering the body through the mouth is to coat the food with saliva! I’m going to hold on drinking water for 30 minutes after a meal, and I also learned portion size relative to my hand size and stomach (not relative to my plate or bowl, as is popular here in the USA). I’m having soup as I type this, and it feels good to “stoke the digestive fire.” Gratitude and namaste :)

So much to take in from this great video! I loved the section on the stomach being like a blender, that it needs a handful of space to be able to churn and digest our food. Super helpful tip!!

It makes sense that's why having astringent flavor at the end of a meal is more helpful??? 29:00 In TCM they believe drinking green tea at the end of a meal is good but not before

Yes, the bitter and astringent flavours that tend to dominate green tea are more ideal for the end of the meal. The bitter drys and directs downwards while astringent closes pores and would decrease digestive secretions. We can see why these are not ideal tastes to start the beginning of the meal with. Kimmana

Very useful information, and very well explained. I can notice that my "healthy-eating" was not as healthy as I thought... Thanks for the contribution from both!!

Love the idea of: drink your food + chew your liquids. Also going to apply those 6 elements to my salads and meals as often as possible.

Thank you!! What do you suggest as the nightime nourishing drink before bed for Vatas? And could we have your tips and knowledge on proper elimination, please? I have a hard time passing stool in general, let alone the first thing in the morning as Ayurveda suggests. Sometimes exercice helps, but not always.

Our fave would be Chyawanprash (you can get that on our trusted supplier here goo.gl/GMdBZV). There are many other herbs, but it needs to be adjusted to the individuals. Which means, requires further consultation. For specific Q (i.e. constipation issue) that you'd like us to cover in our future video, please submit that here www.holisticnomads.com/ask

Also, I think this applies to many people working in big corporations - the only way to reheat your food for lunch is microwaves and I hate microwaves. As I am a Vata, warm food is important for me. I could have a sandwich, but its dryness just makes me more dry and as I have problems with passing stool as it is, it is not a good option is it? Do you have any tips on foods that don't need reheating for Vata lunches or other ways to reheat food? I would love to eat fresh every day in restaurants, but it's too expensive. You could also show us examples of your meals - the portions and composition.

There are thermal containers for food, some small ones which are light weight and will leave almost no room for air which could diminish the efficacy of the thermos.

There are a few Sages and their books which I can suggest you to learn ayurveda. Ashtang Hridyam by Maharshi Bagbhatt, other sages have been like Maharshi Patanjali, Charak...their teachings are enough to maintain a well balanced life. A better suggestion I'd give you, is to check the syllabus of BAMS and from their select what to read

Hey, Sadhguru says not to sip throughout the day because it tricks the body into releasing electrolytes. He says to take all you need at one time for proper assimilation. What are your thoughts on this??

What if you are dual dosha? I am literally 50/50 Pitta/Vata. Right now my vikruti is Vata in mind and pitta in body. Would you juggle between the two recommendations for each dosha? It is such a delicate juggling act!

I love your videos. Thank you! I have a question about meal times and frequency. I have had regular meal times for years, really sticking to it. But I feel like by doing that, I have totally neglected my feelings to the point that now I can't distinguish when I am eating because I am hungry or eating because it's the TIME. Isn't being regular with your meal times going against our nature? We should be able to eat when we feel hungry, no? How could I start feeling hunger again and eat until satisfied, and not until the plate is finished? I don't want to waste the food. And I know people who munch on something small even every hour and not have any problems. Is that OK?

Yes, it's really important to have hunger from the belly. It's a sign that our digestion is switched on, and therefore able to digest food properly. And yes, we shouldn't just eat because it's the time to eat. And yet, since it's important for us to have regular meal time, it's become important to make sure that we can have hunger from the belly when it's the time to eat. If this situation left untreated for long, it will create further imbalance due to the fact that our body unable to digest and transfor what we consume. To answer/solve that, it's not enough by just a comment here or even one 1/2 an hour video. As each individuals requires different treatment. There are many Ayurvedic practitioners that might be able to help you on this matter, although I can't recommend other than Kimmana (my husband) as he's the only person that I have direct experience with. I don't want to sound bias here since he's my husband. So I'll just let testimonials from his previous clients speak for it here www.holisticnomads.com/success-stories. If you'd like to be on the waiting list, you can do so here www.holisticnomads.com/consultation-with-kimmana. Hope it helps. x Zia

Thank so much. I've watched all of your videos I think :D I am all for consultation (and I've tried various doctors/healers). I've signed up for Kimmana's waiting list, the only thing I am worried about is: Can Kimmana do it over such a long distance?

Viktor Plzik yes totally. That's where most of his consultation takes places. By asking the right questions (and also if you have a detailed birthday and time), he can make an on the spot assessment 😇

Got a question for us? Submit your Q here www.holisticnomads.com/ask, and we'll answer it in our future video. If you still insist for to submit your Q in the comment section, unfortunately, we're unable to answer it due to several factors: 1. We believe that if one person has a question in their mind, many others are possibly thinking the same question too. Which is why we'd like to make sure that the answer that we give in regards to your question, can also benefit others. 2. With the finite amount of time and energy that we have, we'd like to make sure that whatever we put out there can reach its highest potential. 3. We'd like to avoid as much miscommunication and misunderstanding for other's learning process. Therefore, responding to your Q in a short, written form, will most likely limit the quality of our answer. Which then can affect your learning process. 4. Answering your Q in the comment section wouldn't be searchable for others. It will be a different case if the answer to your Q is recorded in the form of KZbin video, with its own title and SEO-friendly caption. Which is why the best way for us to answer your question is through the format of KZbin video (like this one). This way, not only we can answer your question thoroughly, but others can also benefit from your curiosity. Therefore, please submit your question at this form here www.holisticnomads.com/ask. We’ll hold regular Q & A episode where we'll answer your Q, like this one kzbin.info/aero/PLz5zy-KK6vk2zYiAweNvnU1AO2m1Yxm8J Also, If you haven't subscribed, make sure to do so, so you'll be notified when your questions get answered. Thank you.

By the way, In Sushruta Samhita Uttarsthana, 64/84-86, Acharya Sushruta says that food should be consumed twice a day and there should be no snacking in between food. The first meal is consumed 1 prahara or 3 hours after sunrise and the second meal is consumed before sunset or within 3 hours after sunset. Food consumption is described as a sacred process just like a sacred sacrificial fire, which happens 2 times a day, food should also be considered as a sacred yagna and consumed twice a day after noticing that following signs: 1. Stools and urine should have been voided properly 2. When the senses are clear, i.e. There is pleasantness in the mind 3. Presence of lightness in the body 4. Presence of clear belching without any smell or taste of the previously consumed food 5. Clarity and lightness in the heart region, heart being devoid of blemishes(feeling of pleasantness in the chest area) 6. Proper movement of vayu, vayu being in a normal state 7. Presence of interest for intake of food 8. Hunger should be present 9. The stomach should be empty and clear and light The presence of the above mentioned conditions is essential and mandatory to consume food. Only when the above said conditions prevail, the body will happily receive food, digest it properly, assimilate and utilize it properly and provides energy to the body and supports life. When one takes food in the absence of the above mentioned conditions, the food will not be properly digested; this leads to indigestion which is a major cause of many diseases. The presence of all the above said conditions defines the proper time to consume food. When food is taken at this proper time, the food becomes wholesome for health and life, supports the body and is equivalent to a life protecting medicine. Food should be taken after notching the "Jeerna Aahara Lakshanas" signs of previously ingested food properly digested which are mentioned blow: 1. Udgara shuddhi- cleanliness of belchong(no taste in belch) 2. Utsaha- enthusiasm 3. Vega utsarga- proper evacuation of urges(like those of stools, urine, fart etc.) 4. Laghuta- lightness in the body 5. Kshut- manifestation of hunger 6. Pipasa- manifestation of thirst The presence of the above said symptoms or features should be considered as "proper time for food intake" Acharya Charaka tells that if food is consumed in the evening in spite of the morning food not being totally digested doesn't cause much harm whereas the food taken on the next morning when the food taken during previous evening has not been fully digested will lead to various diseases and has a very bad impact on health.
