You were listening to the GODFATHER of Double bass Dave Lombardo. Dave ALWAYS kills it on every track Slayer has ever done. Slayer is only 1 of the few bands who never changed in their 30 plus year career. With Jeff Hanneman's riffs( RIP Jeff) and Dave's drums Slayer has put together some of the most Iconic sounds in songs EVER
@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead2 жыл бұрын
You're spot on bro, I just mentioned something similar about Lombardo in my previous comment and you're right about Jeff Hanneman as well. I think both of them were the most valuable members of Slayer, not much of a fan of Kerry King but I definitely have an appreciation for bands with vocalists who play bass. Tom's vocals may not be the greatest, but he is part of Slayer's signature sound and there are tons of modern thrash bands who emulate his vocal style to this day.

Dave Lombardo left slayer in 1992, and didn’t rejoin again until 2001 and then left the band again in 2013. He wasn’t on 3 albums in 90s and anything post 2013.

Yep, was gonna say Dave.

The first double kick drum player was jazz dude Louie Bellson. He would have to be the godfather in my opinion. In rock, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell, Carmine Appice, Bill Ward, Tommy Aldridge, Neil Peart, and Ronnie Tutt made it popular. Dave Lombardo definitely took it to a whole new level and is quite godly. He is definitely the master of double kick drumming.

Slaaayyeerr!!! I'm soo glad this won the poll instead of Metallica, and this song is definitely a gem in Slayer's discography. Dave Lombardo's drumming is freaking relentless, his drumming with Slayer is what made him an icon. Great reaction as usual guys, happy Thanksgiving everyone!! 🤘🤘🤙🤙

This is about WWII. Slayer has a fair number of songs on the topic, especially concerning what was happening in Europe. Jeff Hanneman's father fought in Normandy in WWII, sparking his interest in the subject. He and Tom wrote the lyrics on this one. Tom makes mention of the Rhine, which is a river in Germany. He talks about the policy of "scorched earth", which the Russians used against the invading German army. "Total war", as said in the chorus, is war that is expanded beyond just military involvement. Civilian installations can also become targets. This was seen most famously in the bombing of Dresden by allied forces. The city was decimated, and tens of thousands of civilians were killed.

Wish you had done the live version off Decade of Aggression. You have to scream the WAR ENSEMBLE like Tom does at the beginning. Also the way the slight echoing the arena on the songs is crazy. FANTASTIC. Still you need to listen to Reign in Blood 3 times with headphones. Once left side. Once right side. Then down the middle. You get to hear both guitars doing their own things. It’s crazy. I will never forget getting this the day it came out. Great.

Fun story, Tom's dad was actually some type of church leader or something and he got a lot of people talking about him bc of his son's band. He never wanted to tell his son this bc he didn't want his son to worry or be upset. When Tom finally did find out he was heart broken to hear what his dad went through just bc of the type of band he was in... I think his dad knew what kind of person Tom was so he didn't care about others judging him or his son.

This was my favorite era of slayer. Sorry I didn't vote. Didn't get home till very late and basically face planted my pillow. Friday is my last day before I start at my new shop. Jeff Hennimen and Kerry King are the ones who started slayer. I think they met during an audition for another band I can't remember what band and they both were not picked. They both said they were way better than anyone else there so they formed slayer. If you are looking for modern thrash, check out HAVOK, they used the influence of classic thrash but made it modern. And the drummer Pete Webber is a f^@*ing monster on the drums. Should start with covering fire. This song is about war in general.
