The meaning of “Brothers in Arms” rings true across more than just when we’re at war overseas, but when we’re fighting amongst ourselves.
When political and other divisions split us, we have to take a step back and remember that we always have more in common with each other than we have that is different. And we need to see all of our fellow human beings as the brothers and sisters we are, so we can live in a more harmonious society ❤️

@@mikeparker7631 Please remember, that Home Free Home Fries exist all over the World! We're not all American, so not all of us are into the very nationalistic (for lack of a better word) songs on their repertoire. We can still appreciate the skill and talent behind the performances, even if the songs themselves aren't our favourites. This song was written by Mark Knopfler in 1982, about the Falklands War and it's casualties.

That's right, Mike! I read a nice comment that aptly said, "They don't do covers. They upgrade." Truth. 71 years ago my uncle Marvin died at the battle of Chosin Reservoir in what is now North Korea. The US and UN troops were so out numbered and under such continuous fire that they were not able to take the fallen with them when they withdrew. My uncle was one of those left behind. But now, thanks to decades of diplomacy and the science of DNA, his remains have been repatriated and positively identified. He's finally coming home. His ashes will be interred in his mother's grave next month. It took a lifetime of continuing effort, but they finally brought him home. Like the lyrics in this song say, "You did not desert me, my brothers in arms."

WOW 🥺! Your ability to tell a relatively short story with such depth and detail, in so few words - is amazing, yet I feel compelled to not only thank you - for sharing this slice of your own family history - while offering apologies for EVERY soldier, EVERYWHERE for being forced to be pawns in our leaders battles. Maybe we (EVERY COUNTRY) should bring our soldiers home - and send the LEADERS to the battlefield to fight out their agendas - until the last one standing. Seems more fair, right? 👍

This is possibly one of the most beautiful a capella pieces I've heard! The whole group nailed every part. One thing I really love about this cover is the fact that they chose a bass singer as the lead, but just left him as the lead. They didn't try and show off with subharmonics, growls or any of the other super showy techniques (they have a place but are sometimes overused); instead they just let the natural warmth and beauty of a lower voice shine as the focal point for all the stunning harmonies. Fantastic job, Home Free.

@annmariemitchell2532 I thought about it a couple of years ago, when I watched a rather amazing play by Sandi Toksvig called "Bully Boys". It's about a young British soldier accused of a war crime in Afghanistan, and his interaction with his lawyer (appointed by the army), a wheelchair user with his own ghosts from the Falklands. It is amazing (but I would wager triggering for someone dealing with PTSD).

Long time ago in 1986 I served in the regular "socialist-communist" army, this song was a hit song, was playing on the radio. As a soldier at that time from another part of the world, not knowing a lot of English language, I was singing the tune, and that chorus brothers in arms make me smile like I was knowing what it means really. Decades later my English is getting better and I heard a song again, now, I know what it means, it means a lot for the army personal no matter where they served, in what army, we are all the same, sometime just fresh meat for the cannons, sometimes just lost in the desert, but always remember that when no one else is left to ask for help and support, that person next to you, that cold blooded soldier is your brother in arms and he and you will do anything to protect each other, to help each other to ease the pain, because those are The Brothers in Arms! God save all soldiers!

Tim's vocals bring me back 35 years to the piercing, tectonic balm of this song's namesake album. I was barely in my twenties, but grew up with Vietnam as a backdrop. The insanity of it, the nearly insurmountable damage At Every Turn, the Vets...some disfigured, some walking-wounded, most bewildered, all betrayed. That bass rumbles in the bone the way grief and disillusionment did. As a kid it was terrifying to see that all the adults had lost their collective shit. Words alone can't describe or heal it. Only music can touch it. I'm truly grateful.

After reading the song description, it made me realize that a lot of the anger I feel at what I see happening in our country right now is underlaid by an even deeper sadness that there is so much strife and division. This is the same thought that was running through my mind as they sang. Usually, I focus on the musicality with Home Free... This time the message hit me hard. As a veteran, I often had thoughts like this whenever we sent soldiers "over there". Mark Knopfler is a genius lyricist. What a heartwrenching song. WAR, it should always be the last possible option. No life is worth sacrificing for anything other than FREEDOM. My Cousin was a surgeon on a hospital ship in Vietnam & he refused to ever talk about what he saw during his service. Rest In Peace My Adopted Big Brothers Who Laid Down Their Lives In Vietnam. Home Free, I'm still crying. What an absolutely stunning rendition of "Brothers In Arms". Thank You.

As a mother who has lost a son to illness contracted while in Afghanistan this really hits home. My son knew PTSD well from his service and only true comrades know the story. As a mom my heart was heavy with his burden but I was proud of his service and the fact that he was in the process of re enlisting when the illness took his life.🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸 thank you Home Free to such a moving performance. Hauntingly beautiful! Had never heard this song but Tim and Adam Chance sang it with perfection. As a mother who has a son in the military this reminded me of what could have happened when he was 18 and in the Iraq war. Also of my father who served bravely in World War 2 and live to tell his family of what he endured in a German prison camp. Freedom isn’t, free there is always someone who has to sacrifice his/her life so we can stay free.

The original was written and performed by Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) about the losses in the falklands war in the 80’s. It’s an epic song, with a great guitar solo too (if you get a chance to listen to the original). They did a load of other great songs too …Romeo and Juliet is a particular fave!

Rivals, or goes above and beyond the Pentatonics. So amazing. Challengers to the throne. But the bass and baritone, harmonizing with the sopranos and tenor, it's what drags me in. I was a Corpsman, First Gulf War. "I'mma save you!" As a field medic, you swear three oaths. The first, to uphold and protect the US constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The second, the Hippocratic oath. "First, do no harm." Paraphrasing a bit. The third, is unwritten, unspoken, just understood. It's the override. Team comes first. It pre-empts all the others, because, well, sorry, if it's a little pragmatic sounding, "If you're dead, or I'm dead, I can't carry out the others. So, stay alive! If you die, we die." This is so much more pertinent. "I'd catch a grenade for you." for me, at least wasn't a song lyric. The entire ethos, we'd die for eachother, but... that's not exactly plan A. Stay alive! Weird thing they did to me, was, to try to make me unkillable. Innoculated, injected, gas chambers, trained with SEALs. I don't like guns, personally, but I was a medic. My side-arm was a Ka-Bar short blade. No intent to harm. Utility. I hate war. Sorry if it sounds unpatriotic. I worked on a warship, at VA hospitals, saw the damage it does. The lives cost, the crippling injuries. I was just, "No!" Ack! Long story short, love the music, the harmonization, the theme, the whole kit and caboodle. More about the music, the combination. It's... insanely good. The balance of the bass, baritone, tenor, soprano, it all, to me, at least represents team.

I just listened to the original before coming back yet again to this, wondering why this version ALWAYS leaves me bawling, while the original doesn't. I think it's because Dire Straits' version is the low key melancholy of survival which inspires contemplation and remembrance. The raging storm is over. You survived. You're worn out, you're grieving for those who were lost, but you *survived*. Home Free? You're still in the raging storm. They just reach in and rip out your heart with the emotional reality of war.
