8 Generations Navy here and I always cry at stuff like this. No apologies needed to be made. Being a man of heart/compassion doesn't make you weak, it makes you stronger. And yes we have lost way too many lives over senseless fighting. The feels that come with Home Free, no matter the song, are real. I love that about them. I'll repeat myself... "Travelin' Soldier" would be the PERFECT song for Memorial Day. It's gorgeous in its harmonies. The couple they chose to act in the video are actually military.

Standing here looking at my dad's picture, he passed 18 yrs ago, then look ar my son's picture, my dad volunteered to go in his place when deployed to Iraq. Now that's unconditional love.

So beautifully sung by Rob with so much emotion that it touches your heart and soul. Because if you can sing as well, as it reaches only to my ears it's not good enough for me. But this is so perfect. Goosebumps. Beautiful cover with respect for the original. They just give it a Home Free twist like Tim's piece with Amazing Grace. So good harmonies and great bass in the background .. And then that video, so emotional!! So many families that have been through this.😢 My father came out of the war alive after 4 years in a Japanese camp. Often in isolation. With the help of a fellow inmate, he survived. But it still bothered him physically and mentally. He was hard on us. We were not allowed to show our emotions and weakness, otherwise they would get us. After all, he himself had survived the war that way. In 1969, 3 days before my 6th birthday, he died from the physical effects of the war. He was only allowed to live to be 50 years old. Amazing Grace was sung at his funeral. One of his favorite songs that he often sang as a pastor.

Vince Gill wrote this for his brother and Keith Whitley after they passed away. You should watch the one that Vince (and Patty Loveless) did live for George Jones after he passed away. Very, very emotional.

That is a magnificent tribute to the fallen. But the video over shadows the music, in my opinion. It is hard to complain about that on Memorial Day, but if you want to, you might go listen to the "Church Sessions" version of this song. Vince Gill stopped to talk to Tim one night after an appearance and thanked them for doing this song. For a much more upbeat tribute, you might watch "Land of the Free": "So raise that flag up high/ for those who gave their lives/ for liberty"

Do not apologize for being emotional. For me, it means you're human and care. Vince started writing this song after his friend Keith Whitley passed away, then finished it after his brother passed away.

I prefer Home Free's 'Church Sessions' version of this being the visuals of this video can be overwhelming. If you want to revisit this song, to just appreciate their soul-stirring vocals with the acoustics of a church setting, I recommend it. Dad served in WWII, an ex in VN (internalized his experiences), lost many neighbors and siblings of classmates during the VN conflict. Appreciate your sharing this today.

I prefer the “Church Sessions” version as well. This version is perhaps more appropriate as a salute to our fallen military on Memorial Day; however, I find the “Church Sessions” version more emotional with their pure voices in a perfect live setting, without any distractions. In that context the emotions can be very personal.

Air Force-- (my youngest daughter--Iraq, Afghanistan, Oman, & Qatar) and my oldest grandson (currently serving); Army-- my dad (Normandy) and a nephew (currently serving); Navy--a cousin; Marines-- cousins (Desert Storm). My gratitude to all the men and women who served and all those who currently are serving.

Don’t apologize for feeling how you feel. It’s sad no matter the reckless, senseless, or any other circumstances that take someone away from the people that love them. Sometimes the circumstance suck beyond the telling of it… war, drugs, violence, etc… and that only adds to the pain of loss. That… and the questions left with the rest of us that will never have answers. There’s a little peace and maybe some hope listening to songs like these. I truly enjoy your honest reactions. My father has been resting on that mountain since July 4th 1979. I was stationed at Quantico Va. at the time and I had my engine torn down doing a valve job. Two of my brothers came to take me home when my father went to the hospital do to a massive heart attack triggered by cancer. we arrived in Baltimore 15 minutes after he passed. I have always regretted not being there to say goodbye. My father was a WW II Army veteran and the two brothers who came to pick me up were Navy veterans. Another one of my brothers was also a Navy veteran who served in Vietnam. And the tradition goes on, My son was an Army veteran. He served in the Iraq war and the Afghanistan war.

Hey Jeremy, I’ve been loving your page but had to comment after hearing your story at the beginning as it’s very similar to mine. Fellow Air Force brat, I was also born in Germany, at Ramstein. He retired in Colorado after serving 24 years. The moving around was hard as a kid but looking back now I wouldn’t change that experience for anything, it was amazing seeing places I may not have been able to otherwise. Thanks to your parents for their service and keep up the great work on the channel. Loving the Home Free!

Great reaction, as usual 😊 And don’t apologise, there’s something powerful about a man who shows his emotions. As others have mentioned, there’s another version of this. It’s from The Church Sessions and I prefer that to this one. There are a few reasons for that. 1: the video doesn’t distract from the vocals as much. 2: there’s just something about singing in a church. 3: it’s easier to see who is singing what, for instance, that it’s Chance not Tim doing the bass line.

This video is very touching but I find I prefer the country rebel sessions version better. They are sitting around doing their parts sometimes you can get a idea what each is doing.
