Update: Arien Is No Longer Homeless in Los Angeles • Update: Arien Is No Lo...
Several times, I have run into the same homeless person while traveling. It's always great to see a familiar face but also at the same time so very heartbreaking knowing that they have been homeless for that amount of time. It's also very concerning that homeless services has not been able to get that person off the streets.
Today, Invisible People reached a milestone that I wished never would have ever happened. Twice before I have interviewed Arien while she was homeless on the streets of Hollywood. I can't believe Arien is still sleeping outside, but then again, Jossayln has been on the streets of Los Angeles for 16 years [ • Homeless Woman Slept i... ].
This is the video from the first time Arien and I met.
• Arien is a homeless wo... She talked candidly about the harassment woman go through on the streets. Today she talked about being raped on her third day of homelessness.
Last October I happened to run into Adrien again. Her video interview here • UPDATE on Arien: She i... where she mentioned attempts to kill herself prompted the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) outreach team to go visit her. They helped her with clothes and hygiene products and placed Arien on a housing list, but there are tens of thousands of homeless people in Los Angeles and not even close to enough housing.
In this interview, Arien talks about being handcuffed by police for
putting her tent up too soon. Homeless people cannot pitch their tents until after 9pm but because it was cold, Arien started to set her tent up at 5pm and almost got arrested.
Arien is not homeless by choice. No one chooses the streets as a
lifestyle. She occasionally gets work as a security guard but when her employer finds out she is homeless they let her go.
According to the last point in time count homelessness in Los Angeles grew 23%. Arien is just one of tens of thousands of homeless people that are in need of help. Last year, Los Angeles voters said yes to raising taxes to help end homelessness but now the battle is to gain public support. If you live in Los Angeles, please email or share this video on social to every stakeholder and politician you know. If you live outside of Los Angeles, you know people that live here. Share Arien's video with them. We must all work together to end homelessness in Los Angeles.
Here is Arien's GoFundMe page: www.gofundme.c...

About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as KZbin, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

I pray my son never gets hurt or loses his life protecting someone who thinks like you .He is a honest hardworking family man with 3 small children. There are bad cops out there but for you to think of all of them being the same , you are dead wrong ! Good luck to you in this life with an attitude like that .

If you really love your son and your 3 grandkids you would ask him to get out of law enforcement. Civil war is coming, cops will be on the wrong side of history if they continue as they have been.

There is inequality in allotment of natural resources by God too. Somewhere there is flood. Somewhere there is a few drops only. If there is fertile land or forests, there is a desert too. Similar is the case in regard to wealth or money for a few and poverty for others. It is natural. That is why there is still a misery in the world despite billions of charity by one and many!

I've been homeless for the first time in my life for almost two months now. I live in Los Angeles county, I've been in a shelter for the past couple of weeks which helps, but it's a very tough place to stay. My empathy and compassion for the homeless has obviously grown from my small experience on the street, but I also know you do have to want the change. People do ignore me now, avoid me or look at me like somethings wrong with me, but I'm learning more now than ever that you really can't care what people think of you. You have to do what's best for yourself, people aren't up at night losing sleep because you're homeless, so don't waste a thought to what they think. Be strong, compassionate, pray and use whatever resources you can to get yourself back on your feet. I'm talking to myself here more than anyone, lol... Peace.

Wow yea most of the homeless started out as "smart beautiful..." whatever what we see is a political system that thrives on making people go homeless! An evil system that deprives its own citizens of basic needs yet spends billions on illegal and criminals! A govt system that plays taxpayers year in year out with promises of doingxthis that or other to combT homelessness yet more and more everyday people are joining the homeless ranks. Its evil and God will one day soon bring His Judgment on the got system and the perps who benefit from the homeless. The homeless are demonized by thus same got system, the Media & those who get taxpayer funds to help the homeless! At one time or another most homeless people were " beautiful smart..." but the cruel dangerous streets year after year has pushed many over the edge. I've worked with the homeless for 3 years and had to quit or I would've had a break-down NOT because of the homeless people but the systematic abuse these ones are put through which I witnessed but was in no position to do anything about. Has anyone ever asked the governor's, mayorsand council members of Democrat run cities with high homeless rate why? Has anyone ever looked at the stats and compared the data between Dems run cities and Republicans run cities and the disparity in homelessness? Surely someone out there must have a clue by now that homeless people are a cash cow for Democrats from many streams!

What does being pretty have to do with anything? It doesn't matter what you look like, it still hurts on the inside. Everyone deserves a home and security no matter what they look like. And just hooking up with any man just to get out of a bad situation isn't the solution either. Women deserve more than that.

@@johnstevens72 You do know we’ve had Republican Governors right??....California has historically voted Republican since the 1960’s UNTIL the 1992 election with Clinton and has stayed blue since. In our last 10 governor elections, 5 have been republicans. Most recently being Arnold in 2003-2011. Your assumption that California is some democratic wasteland, makes you sound like a propaganda media brain-washed idiot. Perhaps it doesn’t have to do with “party politics” but the infrastructure of trying to provide resources for the SECOND most populated city in America consisting of 3.9 million people? Is it any surprise that most small rural America is red and big cities are blue?? As I said, get out of your “blue vs red” idiocy and realize, these issues have more to do with infrastructure, systemic issues and a lack of accountability from both political parties. And idiots such as yourself blaming “political parties” are also a part of the issue.

Amen sister, I feel the same way. I want to start a campaign through the church and a crusade against homelessness and share the word with these folks and feed them and provide a place where they can safely shower every day so that the can go out and look for a job or just even to feel good about themselves. And possibly seek out some financial assistance for each and every one of them. I know there are some that will not be able to be helped but there are many that can be. You want to help her cause she is pretty but You dont want to help the others that are not so attractive. And To all of you saying you will help her if she was in your city, You would take her into your house, blah blah blah. I am sure there are many homeless people where you live. You walk right past them everyday, How many of them have you helped? How many have you taken into your house? How many have you given a job? How many have you tried to help find a job? To all those who think I'm drowning in self-pity. I'm drowning in suicidal thoughts, and PTSD. I've been raped, kidnapped, abused, and survived an an attempted murder. I have no family. I lost everything. And it was ALL shortly after coming to Los Angeles. Self pity? No. Wishing I was dead isn't because I feel sorry for myself. It's because I beat myself up ALL the time. Blame myself for my rapes. Blame myself for the situation with my son. Blame myself for my abuse. And ever since my ex tried to kill me, because I wanted out of our relationship... I wanted to die. There are kind people who understand that have been through a lot. They understand the power of speaking life into someone. Not you. I panic when men touch me. I panic when I see babies that look like mine. I panic when I even talk to men. I've beaten myself up so many times. blamed myself. So, "man", why don't you tell me about my self-pity.

Plenty of good quality, respectful positions that you should easily be able to qualify for based on just being yourself. If they don't like you or have a problem with your history, fuck em. One person's opinion doesn't automatically make it fact. Find support. Create a KZbin channel if you haven't already with some cheap equipment and upload it over free wifi if possible. I think you will find a lot of support. But be prepared for a few assholes as well. That's shouldn't be an issue though, considering how tough you are. Good luck and God Bless XOXOXOXOXO

My advice for people is, watch these videos on Invisible People's channel. I mean, as many as possible. Even if you don't end up watching every single video, watch as many as you're up to watching. Because, people, like Arien, in this video, the guy in the last video, with his three wishes, Manda, when she said she tries, others, who talk about how employers want someone with experience and an address, etc., still others, saying, put yourself in other people's shoes, and so on, and so forth, all of these people, together, with one big voice, are saying exactly what needs to be said, and exactly what people need to hear. Not just about homelessness, but about life, in general, and about loving one's fellow human being, and about how this could happen to you ......................... etc. Please, everyone. Hopefully we all can get the message. Lets build the world up, instead of kicking each other while we're down. We can prevent homelessness from happening, and since it's happening, we can fix it. Especially in USA. I said in one Invisible People live stream, "if each person in USA were to give one dollar to a fund (like, if someone started a fund tomorrow, just to collect that), that would be 320 million dollars, because there are 320 million Americans, and THAT could help someone." I said that in a live stream. And, that's just from ONE dollar per person. Surely, most people can afford to give just ONE dollar. Meaning, not that we would give one person 320 million dollars, out of the blue, but that, said money could be used for new facilities, like Arien mentioned, or it could even be used to create jobs specifically for those who are homeless, or are on the brink of homelessness. Like, if most employers want someone with a degree in so & so and five years experience, maybe said fund could employ people to collect litter off the streets, and the only requirement is to be 18 years of age or older, and you get the job just from applying for it. That type of thing. This could help prevent homelessness, or at absolute least, could get food into the stomachs of those who are homeless, and after a while, they'll be able to save up for a place. We don't have to implement exactly like that, but something like that. But, anything of that nature could help. I just hope that human nature gets better, as well as the circumstances for Arien. I hope things get better for her.

World is ugly and getting worst. We always lived in a world where the strong eat the weak. We never lived in an easier world. What you wish she'd get is already taken to someone else. On the world scale, if you make more than 32 000 USD a year, you're in the 1%. This 1 USD you'd want from every Americans could save thousands of kids in Africa from dying of starvation and curable diseases... But you'd want to use it so some girl can get a nice flat in L.A. ... People these days...

I think she is so adorable and I'm so sorry for the people that don't even think about a homeless person for one second, I don't have much but I give if I see a homeless individual, and I mean I scrimp for sure, but blessed in this life to have family we help each other! My grandkids and I pray Everytime we eat for a lost person that is cold or hungry, because being poor myself, prayers are everything! I wish her so many. Blessings!

I'm not a homeless person, but I understood everything she said. It's heart-breaking to see such a beautiful and genuine person with kind heart to be in this situation. Many times, these people are homeless due to a circumstance that happened in their lives. I'm glad she's no longer homeless.

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.... I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." -Thomas Jefferson

Best decision I ever made was when I decided to never again dwell on what anyone thinks of me except me . Never judge yourself by other people's opinion whatever someone calls you . Make your goals and just don't let anyone or anything get in the way . Yes we all need some kind of support to get started but if you always think you can count on others your gonna always be disappointed no matter how much money you have you gotta do it and be your own best friend . That's just the way it is . You cannot size yourself up by the opinion of others . Your young , healthy , beautiful , intelligent , heartfelt , have great communication skills and personality . Nothing can hold back a person . You truly have some qualities so get it together . Peace !
