Homeless Woman Was Arrested for Sleeping in Her Car so Now She Sleeps on the Ground Next to Her Car

Invisible People

Sandy sleeps in a sleeping bag on the sidewalk in Berkley, California because it's against the law to sleep in her car. She's on the verge of mental illness from life on the streets.
The thing keeping her unemployed? Her age. She says that's the main factor keeping her from finding work, and she's living a "completely miserable" life on the streets.
She runs to get away from people who are up all night with drugs and additions. This, full shelters, and the outlawing of sleeping in a car led her to slip into a church to sleep one night. The next morning, she awoke to a $400 ticket for trespassing. Of course, she can't pay this, and now has an outstanding warrant.
She doesn't qualify for mental health assistance. She's not quite old enough for senior assistance. And no one wants to hire someone her age. Sandy, and others who are homeless at her age, are truly part of a forgotten generation.

About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as KZbin, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

Even worse, the Berkeley city council told homeless people that they could occupy only 2 square feet of space on the sidewalk between 7 am and 11 pm! That is unconstitutional, and I called the local ACLU. The Berkeley city govt. persecutes the homeless and rv dwellers. There is now construction for new high-priced apts. mostly for foreign students in the city. Berkeley and the rest of California is heyond inhumane, with its sweeps and new unaffordable apt. buildings.

This clearly demonstrates everything that is wrong with this world. We are brought kicking and screaming into this world, we never asked to be born. Yet we are indoctrinated, worked, and taxed til we die! Meat for the machine. Soldiers for your wars, drones for your factory floors! A human being is more than just a thing to be exploited by the rich and the powerful. No government should make 'laws' like this. They could give every citizen a home if they wished, but if they did that people wouldn't volunteer to die in their wars. They keep us 'poor' to control us with that fake bs they call 'money.' Its a disgrace that is allowed to occur because we are ruled by soulless, satanic, slave-masters and this kind of poverty and homelessness is a FEATURE of their system. NOT a BUG!!!

Jakob Jones - You're correct, of course. It's an ancient recipe, made immeasurably worse by current technology. They knew decades ago that, at some point, there wouldn't be enough good paying jobs for everyone, no matter how well educated. Rather than plan accordingly, they chose mass incarceration. If you'll notice, the vast majority of those doing time are in for relatively short terms - less than 5 years. The State has what it wants within the first few weeks. DNA, fingerprints, a thorough background check, not only of you, but of friends and family. Catalog and control. Upon release, corporate America is presented with the perfect worker drone. One who engenders no sympathy, has no civil rights, conditioned into compliance. The result is an ever shrinking circle of those deemed to be decent, hard-working, loyal, productive citizens, worthy of the privileges they've been granted. The very real danger is that the smaller that circle gets, the more palatable anything suggested to them becomes. Atrocities become solutions.

"the invaders," are receiving free money, free housing, free medical/dental, etc., etc., etc... "BABIES FOR PROFIT" The more babies "the invaders" produce, the MORE MONEY they are PAID to raise their "invader babies." "The End of America" Eventually... About 6 months before you did this interview I too became homeless for medical reasons got put on a pill mill for 15 years while working full time had the highest tier health insurance from employer nothing but GOP healthcare! Texas VA was no help! So mostly camped out and had a storage unit for a year and half. Ended up in Nebraska doing a VA work and housing program. Had a employer wanting to hire me and would be on section 8. I could not get any healthcare they wanted to put me on same meds that gave me two stomach infections ,so how would I stay employed plus a place to sleep and had actually quit once on program due to health problem and camping out again! Noticed Obamacare had been around for two years and heard it might help! So I did their second one for just to get money for two years and headed to the rockies took 2 years of Doctors run around before I found one willing to do imaging after a ambulance took me to the hospital! I needed stomach surgery, colonoscopy, sinus surgery I worked 20 years in printing and plastics plants, Varicose vein 4 surgeries and Dislocated disc in back that had slipped out 17 years ago! Just finished upper steroid shots took a year for that! Need a sleep study for upper sinus surgery UAR! I was able to stay at a tent encampment run by a social organization get housing and job program found a employer then had to take off from work since back gave out now ready to do another work program get hired and see how long I can put up with pain. In 3-4 years can take social security at 67! I hope SANDY was able to make it to 55 for senior work program and she may consider moving to another state! I have a list of places where rent is cheaper and less drama!

So let me get this straight. Somebody with car is told that they can't sleep in a car in Berkeley, so instead of driving OUTSIDE of Berkeley, they just sleep on the sidewalk instead? In California there are numerous rest stops on the various freeways. You can stay in one for up to 12 hours provided you move on to another one the next night. So why is she hanging out in Berkeley if she can't afford to be there? Those of us who have spent ANY time in Berkeley know DAMN WELL why she's there. Mild climate, lots of freebies, hands-off attitude towards police enforcement of anti-vagrancy laws, and the ready availability of illicit narcotics. Some of you people REALLY need to get a clue!

Apparently in Australia if a truck driver has to stop because his hours run out say flooding or car accident slows him or her down. If truck does not have sleeper cab he must sleep out side of the truck to be legal. Apparently the law maker get to stay in a motel.

@@davidwright1752 it's not illegal to sleep in your car in NSW , the truck rules are for fatigue management to force companies not over work their drivers which stops that driver being a potential hazard for himself and others, though there are many other stupid laws here that make no sense and are just for revenue raising I don't think that is one of them.
