Thanks Leon's Chainsaw. I was absolutely sure there was no brass tube or duckbill valve in the oil tank. But i did what you did with the "solvent" shook it and low and behold the brass tube and the duckbill fell out. In Western Canada you saved me 25 bucks. Thanks a lot. Just for that I subbed. Thanks again. I will mention you in my video+

Leon, I appreciate the time and energy that you put into your video's. You have helped me more than once on a Homelite. I wanted to thank you for your help with some positive feedback and to offer a tip, if your out of the duckbills for the pressure line feeding a Homelite oil tank; An Echo 'jellybean' style tank vent (check valve) that is used on most of the Echo gas tools can be substituted to fit this Homelite system. Locate an Echo gas tank vent, it will look like a white Jellybean with a hose barb on one end and a cap on the other. Echo Part No: A356000031. Remove the cap, and inside is the duckbill check valve. Pull the duckbill check valve out of the jellybean with a small pair needle nose pliers. Some of the Echo check valves have a small square foam filter on top of the duck bill when you remove the cap. Discard that foam. The black Echo duckbill check valve will slide tightly over a piece of 3/16x3/32 fuel line in the correct orientation to pressurize the XL oil tank. Because the duckbill lips face out, this Echo duckbill will not allow oil to be drawn back into the Homelite engine. For my application, I used an interference fit. If you want to permanently secure the duck bill to the line, a small dab of nail polish or 'seal all' will do it. You will not need the Homelite porous attach piece for this substitution. I did not have a Homelite duck bill check valve available and needed to fix my Dad's saw. This was what I used, and its held up for quite a while!

Excellent video Leon, I have found that if your sintered tube is covered in goo it helps to soak it in carb cleaner & blow it off with starting fluid so it can breathe better. Also a must for fuel & oil cap vents. Thanks & keep up the great work.

There is a very similar duck bill valve inside a modern mcculloch saws fuel cap for the air bleed . I've not checked to see if they are the same but they look close . Just an option too avoid being ripped off online. A very interesting and informative video thank you.

On my XL oiling system, all passages are clear, the diaphragm gasket is ok and not leaking, the positive crankcase pressure comes through the diaphragm chamber and pressurizes the tank (after adding an inline check valve because the sinteredbleeder/duckbill wasn't holding pressure too well), but when I connect the oil output from the tank to the body inlet nipple, nothing comes through the outlet nipple while spinning things up with a power drill. The oil filter in the tank is not clogged, and oil does come through when spinning things up with the tank output tube disconnected. I took the ball&ballspring out and can push the needle piston past the inlet using a stiff wire and then send air through ok, and pushing on the diaphragm the other way it looks like the needle moves enough to lift the ball. Can the diaphragm be too old and stiff to pull the needle back past the oil inlet hole and let a bit of oil suck into that tiny vacuum space and/or the combination of diaphragm return spring + negative crankcase pressure too weak to drive the needle far enough the other way to lift the ball? Though I've been spinning the shaft with a power drill, and pretty fast, maybe the oiling system doesn't kick in till higher rpms and I have to put it all back together and try. If I can't get it to work I'm bypassing the diaphragm valve and adding a pushbutton air valve instead of going on a goosechase for an old new expensive diaphragm. Thanks for reading.

I have an older XL-2 that hasn't been used in YEARS. I've got it running and tested the oil system some. Air is moving from the port behind the diaphragm pump when I spin the flywheel, but I can not get air to move through the discharge line. My model has the port on top of the block and a metal line that runs from there, under the carb, to another port of the back side of the bar pad. Should air move freely through this line? Is there a way to remove the metal line so I can see if there is a plug in any of the ports or the line itself? Thanks!!

Just got my xl torn apart to clean. It was naassssty. Mine has the diaphragm. This thing has sat for a longtime. Was a goodwill find. Should i go ahead and get a rebuild kit for carb and pump diaphragm or just clean it and see what happens? Has black hoses that are still pliable.

Quick question. Your referencing a duckbill valve on the top line in the tank. I recover the bronze tube with the that had a little brittle formation on it but no Duckbill. The tube has a hole all the way through it but no flap to prevent a vacuum leak. Is that normal or is there another component that is needed to make it function properly?

Leon I an working on an XL tonight and I went looking for a video you might have on this. I found that brass tube and it’s like a one way check valve bit it has a slice in the side of it. Is that normal? I don’t know if that slice would show up on the IPM.

So... the duckbill is INSIDE the tank, attached to the end of ??? I assume the pressure hose from the crank? Does the diaphragm type have that too? I think I heard you mention it was supposed to be a little brass fitting? So the pickup is the metal thing with screen and there is supposed to be a brass fitting that attaches to the crank pressure hose with a duckbill on it too? I wondered about that since the fuel has a duckbill right in the side but the oiler tank does not. Still working on my XLs and figuring them out.

Had one of these little saws left behind at a house I just purchased. I tore it apart and got it running well. I have two questions. What mix ratio should be run in these saws? And my oiler seems to be overoiling. It drips everywhere, really slings oil heavily, and puddles under the saw once it sits after running. Is this normal?

If that duck bill is missing from the hose.will it flood the cylinder head with oil.in return, making it hard to pull the crank cord..or is the oil in the cylinder head coming from a different problem??

On my #1 Super 2 I could not find the duck-bill or the bronze connector, had to bit the bullet and buy a new connector to get it going again. Then over a month latter while cleaning out the strainer on my wash stand, guess what I found? So now I have a spare. And as I have two Super 2's I'm not interested in selling it at this time!

Those carbs suck. Only saw I have issues with. The carbs on. They love to flood. Even after rebuild. I assume I am just not getting the needle valve arm set right. Only saw I have that issue with.
@MrChesterbishop
@MrChesterbishop 4 жыл бұрын
I do believe that the cheap chi na carb kits for these maybe the issue the diaphragm nipple that sticks down that touches the needle valve lever I think is just to long. Seems no matter how it’s adjusted that either floods. Or causes no fuel issue. No room for error clearly. So I am thinking I may take a file and take just a lil off that nipple. Maybe that will fix the issue.
