Usual option Is idle truck for AC and power or get an apu which are all ass, This guy is saving allot of money in fuel costs by doing this. If there is a solution for a portable AC for truckers it would be very expensive.

I lease truck without apu. And yeah company watching your idle time. More you idle more your maintenance bill is. I have same set up. Fuck their rules. Saving fuel and engine life. Yes they do make apu. But for me to put it's like 12000$ I spent 450 on generator and ac. If one brakes. It ain't expensive. Compare to apu maintenance is a lot. Now some companies put extra battery and inverter and ac. But they last 10 hours and we get stuck for 34 hour reset. You have to charge them.

A portable AC unit will be a much easier setup. I put my Honda generator under the trailer and secure it around the landing gears with an external 3-gallon marine reservoir. I prefer the gasses to stay far away from my sleeper cab.

@@BuckingHorse-Bull i do the same i have a Honda eu2200i and I chain it with a marine fuel tank to the passenger side engine bay just like this guy on the video, also have a carbon monoxide detector never had a problem with that, sometimes when it’s windy my generator shuts down because the wind blows exhaust gas and it has that CO2 shutdown crap so I just have to reposition it and that’s it

To All of you asking about the plastic adaptor. Go to any TA and buy a "breezeway screen" for your truck. Then cut it to fit. Its damn near impossible to find an idle air adapter.

Good thinking bro, but i would recommend a portable ac so you don't have to do all you did, also get yourself a good carbon monoxide detector inside and try to securly strap the genny inside engine's compartment 😊

If your company doesn’t allow idle and doesn’t provide apu then you shouldn’t work for them. I would never do all this every time I am parked. I own my own truck and looking to see what people doing out there. Only reason I wanna have apu is not to save money on diesel that’s 3rd reason 2nd reason to sleep quite without noise and vibration from the truck. My 1st reason is so I don’t put too much wear on motor where it breaks down and cost me more to fix.

I keep one in my car boot, I shut off the tank vent, let it draw a vacuum, shut the fuel valve off, let it suck on that a bit, then turn the engine off, very little smell.

But one problem it's there, imagine if something going wrong or fire occurs, what insurance will cover your truck or for God sake another truck fire, homemade AC in that case will put you in jail, think about that!? Gasoline fuel is very sensitive on high temperature....

U can install 2x 100ah Lifepo4 battery & a 1000w puresine inverter! It will charge when the truck runs & u will save a lot on fuel + no worries about someone stealing that generator. Also having that heavy gas generator & ac in the cab unsecured is not a good idea , in an accident even the tissue paper will become a projectile & try to kill u , u can imagine what that generator can do if it flies towards u !

Basically a better and more expensive option of this would be to build a window ac in a box and put under your bed, put generator in a box as well and mount on frame that way all you gotta do is whenever you stop is turn on generator. This is fine but a hassle as id use it whenever I’m loading unloading or stopped. You’d have to do this process everyday at least 2/3 times, not to mention being in a not so nice area can be sketchy with your ac out the window

Why use a window air conditioner? They sell portable ones so you only have to stick a 4 inch exhaust tube out the window instead of mounting that thing in the window every day

comfortableman12, I have one of those at home but it’s larger version and work excellent. On the label it says for 450sq feet but it cooled my 2400 sq feet house with no problem when my main HVAC broke. And to make it even worse, I live in FL :)

cool. i see it needs an exhaust port to the outside..so a simple window adapter. i bet this would work great in a sleeper . run a drain hose out through an existing wire harness hole and then have a simple adapter for a upper bunk window for the heat exhaust.... this and a mini generator..whole unit less than 1k...love this idea....@@jayv4329

Those portable units won't work in a truck. My ac stopped working on a 2019 Freightliner. Tried the portable ac but it never cooled while on a 34 reset. Took it back the next day, got a hotel and flung that truck in the shop. Apparently my company paid $1800 to fix a compressor. I have tried the window AC unit in a previous truck and it worked great. Cooled like nobody's business.

The truck is less than 200 sqft, a 3000btu ac will cool a 500sqft room in a house

AC has 5,050 BTU, if you put 93 octane gasoline and set your generator to eco mode, AC will work more than 10 hours

cash lane there is a better way.. go to reddot.com and call them , and ask them that you're trying to install up back wall mount AC.. They can tell you more about it. And they can send you a catalog, right now I'm thinking of doing that I found one for about a $1000.. Supposably it hooks up to your AC compressor.. But you need a mechanic to do that go online and give them a call.. And the good part is you don't need no generator and you don't need no batteries that's what they told me
