I use the cage of an IBC tote for the same purpose, you really have to trust the person operating the tractor when doing stuff like this.

I considered using one, but I like the extra several feet of height and width this gives me. I don't think a tote on forks would get me to the peak of my roof. Thats a great and quick solution though.

I have the exact same scaffold, actually 2 of them. I would not mount one with this method. They are very light weight metal and need the weight distributed vertically on all four posts. At minimum, run diagonals to the front posts, even if they are just bolted through the rear vertical angle irons and existing scaffold post holes then up to the front posts just under the platform.

You already covered my only suggestion. My only concern is if your ladder fell down and you were stuck up there until your wife got home. At the very least I would bungee it until you make the video where you build the accessories. Nice job Andrew.

I would've suggested the supports for the front legs go up diagonally instead of straight out so it would be more of a shearing force on the hinge pin instead of trying to twist it down, but it looks like it's pretty sturdy.

Because over do is what you do I would put a set of support arms on the top horizontal tube also. It would make it even more stable. Yes the ladder needs to be attached to the basket. Now if only you could operate the lift remotely from the basket poof no more ladder except for a rope escape ladder rolled up underneath.

Well, now you’re just showing off. 😂😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 good job. Only because I way overdue everything. The hinged piece on the front, I would make that a triangle saw it connects level and add a much higher point on the outside legs. That will give you some flex or stiffness stability as well by squaring the front set of legs to the backside of legs and not relying so much on the frame of the scaffold itself and give you a bit more of Lyft from the tractor mount to the outside of the frame. You could even build a tool table or toolbox or something in there, just make a nice stiff box that fits on the front of it that you can mount to the tractor like that and just roll the whole thing in and bolt it up. There’s a ton of room there. So many things you can do with it. I think this is pretty awesome, he did a great job This will be pretty awesome, soon you’ll just have a tractor with a built-in tool shed/scaffold/lift/hunting blind. Lol

Andrew, highly recommend you get into the paperwork that came with those scaffolds and find out what the max working load is for that platform. You talking about adding accessories and drywall/plywood holders sounds like you'll quickly overload the safe working load. Just my $.02... those short braces you added won't do much of anything to help support weight from the front most edge of the scaffold. You'd need to add long tube stock from the most forward edge of the basket and angle the tubes back to the bottom of each of the tractor/basket attachment bars you welded on. Good idea of trying to use the scaffold as a man basket... just ensure the homework gets done so it's done safely. 🙂

May sound silly. However, you're in a climate where it merits. How about an umbrella repurposed from an old patio table. Give some relief from sun baked neck in the Florida heat. Also, it would give you some shelter from a gentle or pop-up shower. Of course, you can't use it on every task. You can also use the mounting pipe hole for a custom davit arm to swing out over the top rail with a pulley and 5-gallon bucket with rope. That way you can load supplies into bucket and pull or lower from the platform...without climbing the ladder with tools to save your legs. Just like a bricklayer. My 2-cents.

That's a fantastic solution! It may be worth having a dedicated telescoping ladder to keep on the basket to avoid hauling the bulkier ladder around. I've been using these ladders for about 5 years and never had an issue though they do feel a little sketchy until you get used to the feel. I weigh a littler over 250 lbs and this type of ladder (I have several) have been rock solid dependable.

Awesome video, as usual! Regarding the safety mechanism in case of hydraulic failure, look into "tractor hydraulic safety stops" which already exist. With your fabrication abilities, I'll bet you could come up with stops of varying lengths to accomodate the varying heights at which you'll be using the lift. It wouldn't take lots of different lengths and you would only need one cylinder protected. You could even have a mount on the basket structure to store them as an accessory you mentioned. God bless!

We have several of those for movable storage in the garage You mentioned stability Crazy idea but this might work if not just for false piece of mind When I was rally young Mom didn't have an electric dryer All clothes when on the Air Drying close drying rope that sagged in the middle. You might already are guessing what Her tool of choice was. A clothes line pole Maybe a couple of poles like them might provide lateral support meant only to reduce side force action while You are aloft It might work better if 4 poles were used 2 on the FEL 2 reaching the floor of the scaffolding Just a simple and cheap safety thought Another thought is use 2 fiber glass extension ladders on both sides of the scaffolding platform at about 45 to 60 degree angles and use the feet on them designed for use in dirt and tie down straps for securing the scaffold to the ladders I have been to pole climbing school for the phone company and they required Us to safety strap the ladder to the poles. I know there would no poles handy to lash the ladders too but if you safety strapped the ladders together at around the 3rd or 4th ladder rung (step) from the bottom and tightened the strap enough so the feet of each ladders dig into the soil enough to prevent movement of the feet from sliding loose. OR Strap each ladder too the scaffold side rungs/steps with metal/wood brace arms as outriggers I think the "A Frame " geometry might reduce or even cancel the physical side to side loading movement effect on the tractor. I have a frame mounted Backhoe and a couple of those ladders now and if I tried what You demonstrated I would use the ladders and the out rigger legs of the Backhoe Thanks for the idea. Great idea. That you put the lateral support back to the mount was good idea, but you still have alot of vertical forces putting torque on that connection. Would have been better to attached that portion up high just under the working platform and angle it back down to the tractor mount. That way the vertical force gets redirected to the solid tractor mount. Like a big brace or gusset would on something else. Just a thought. Good job. Giving me ideas of my own.
@ezinatx

I agree with Damon's idea. At a minimum put a crossing support on the side opposite the tractor.
@TKCL

There was a specific reason why I didn't do that, I wanted to keep the adjustability of the platform being able to move up and down by several feet. Never know how this might help me working in the future or with accessorie add ons. Braces ran to the platform stops it from being able to move up or down if needed.
@KJNDIVER1

I can understand that. Can make it removable if need be. Take it out when adjusting the platform lower. But when extended all the way up in the air and have my big behind on it, I want it to be as strong as possible. LOL. Its not the fall that hurts, its that sudden stop.

Just an idea. The toe kick will help but was thinking for extra piece of mind you should weld a piece of expanded metal on the lower back side knee high. I would hate to hear that something rolled off/fell off at your feet scratching or denting the hood of that beautiful tractor or worse cracking the windshield. Loved the video!
@brianscott8920
@brianscott8920 Жыл бұрын
Looks great! One suggestion though. With the way you have your swing arms supporting the further out legs I bet you are putting quite a bit of stress into the horizontal members on each side (the ones you climb on to get into the basket). They may be pretty stout but were not designed to take a tension load like you are putting on them. If one or 2 weld fails over it goes. Might be worth peace of mind to run a piece of 2” wide strap from the pin on the close leg to the bolt on the far leg. I hate putting so much faith in welds, specially since most stuff is Chineseum and have seen some pretty ugly welds covered with paint.
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
The one thing to keep in mind is the upper platform is supporting all 4 legs with 8 pins and has much more substantial metal. Regardless I'm already thinking of a couple more reinforcements.

Will the extension ladder "safety stop" hold the weight of the loader boom, too? It might not be a bad idea to make a mechanical lock for the boom cylinder. For example: aluminum pipe cut length wise into two halves Two tabs welded on each end to allow a bolt to pass through and clear the OD of the rod. When I worked for the DOD we used this practice to ensure that if a hydraulic hose failed and the system did not have a hydraulic lock then there would not be a catastrophic collapse of the cylinder.

You could make a 3 point outrigger that would add side to side stability that has adjustable legs on each side for uneven ground. You just get the tractor set where you want it, pull the pins and let the out riggers down then reinsert the pins and put a little down pressure on the 3 point or you could add 2 hydraulic cylinders to the stabilizers so each one is independent of the other for the uneven ground. Similar to the leveling jacks used on motorhomes except it would mount to the 3 point and would hang out on each side of the back behind the tire. It is difficult to explain my exact thought but you are a pretty smart guy so I think you get my drift...

May want to keep an eye on those braces with the drop on hinge pin. If you mimic the movement you do at 8:56. If the front does flex like that, the support could pop off that pin. Maybe some kind of safety chain to prevent them from coming off when you don’t want them to.

Cool I really enjoyed this build, why don't you weld some expanded metal to enclose it around the basket part cant remeber if you said in the video but a great idea to use what you already have and modify it to were you can still use it as it was built for.

I like an open basket for being able to use my nail gun in those open spaces. Expanded metal would block access.

BTW, I just fired Starlink and went with Verizon Home Internet. It is much stabler than anything we've ever had, including Starlink. So far I'm only using LTE 4G but it averages 60 mBits down, and they soon will turn 5G on here in Wellborn.

You really need something like a cherry picker with controls on it then you can do Lise climbing up and down. Or maybe find a small bucket truck for small jobs where you don’t need a ton of supplies up with you.

Those sure are expensive and it's more equipment upkeep/storage.

Any way to put some kind of stabilizer side arms on the tractor to help side to side sway to help prevent tip over?

Hello Andrew, I’ve been a subscriber to your channel for a couple of years now and I really admire what you do. I’m reaching out to see if you can help me I currently own a 5075E John Deere tractor, my brother is a welder and we would like to make a scaffolding like you did, the only problem is John Deere can’t help me with the brackets. Can you tell me where you purchased yours, I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much for your time, I know you’re a busy guy!

Did you weld over the paint? Sure looked like it.
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
Nope, that's why I showed me grinding the paint off when the tractor was pulled inside. I marked the areas to be welded with a sharpie and then took a flap disk and ground the paint off. There might have been an area or two I did a thick tack or small bead over paint. But all my structural welds were absolutely clean.

I have a Kubota L2501, do you think that is too unstable for this? Also the tractor needs to stay on I assume to keep hydraulic pressure up?
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with that tractor so I can't comment. Anytime you have something unstable lifted on the front, run the widest and heaviest attachment you have on the rear. I don't have to keep my tractor running, the valves keeps my cylinders from leaking down. Your results may vary.

Yeah, but notice what was omitted? No jumping up & down, and no vigorous side to side. It works, but its shady as hell. Say "well, I'll never need that up & down, or side to side".... yeah, you never "need it" until you really need it when loaded with the building supplies that werent afforded for in this video. I guess I'm "negative nancy", since all testing was done with no extra loads, and no jump & move to even simulate a load.
@TKCL

Yeah I'd say you are quite negative for no reason. I didn't build these to sell, it's for me and me only to use. You sound like I'm a used car salesman trying to get you to buy one of these from me all while hiding major issues.
