In this video we take a look at the Ecosphere I created on the 11th of January 2020. This is a 2 month update video. The footage was taken exactly 2 months after it's creation, however has been uploaded with a delay.
I would have made a 1 month update video, however I felt as though not much had occurred inside. The plants didn't seem to be growing and I didn't feel as passionate about it at the time. By the time I'd revisited it though 2 months had passed and I realized it housed a pretty great ecosystem!
In the previous video you could see a lot of Copepods. 2 months later however their numbers have dwindled. I believe that is partly because of the ostracod population occurrence and the fact that predatory hydras are breeding without many predators.
If you'd like to see how I built this ecosphere, click the link below:

I'm now wondering if you could just pour pure water into a clear jar and make an ecosystem. No substrate, just seal it, stick it under a bright light and see if algae grows. They do say water is the basis of all life!

Hey dude, do you have any vide teaching how to do an ecosphere? I mean, choosing the jar, gather the matter, how to keep, light cycle, etc? It's amazing? I made one of this in the far past with fishes and didn't work. But I will certainly try one of these.

This one seems like it was a simpler ecosystem to begin with, and therefore evolved under different conditions than nature could originally provide. I think these ecosystems can go stagnant and reach senescence if they aren't balanced properly.

Why is it called an ecosphere if it isnt a sphere?
@Jartopia
@Jartopia 4 жыл бұрын
The original ecosphere was built i 1982 and was an actual sphere. The concept of an ecosphere is to withhold a self sustaining ecosystem, however the shape doesn't impact that. It's very hard to get a glass sphere that's airtight within this hobby, which lead people to begin using glass jars instead.
