I used to do that, but it took up too much space to store, so now I make a homemade powder recipe. It all fits in a large mason jar. Borax, Baking soda, essential oil and some generic oxygen booster. So much less storage! Myfabric softner is just distilled white vinegar and essential oils. Leaves No vinegar smell and works great.

@@deejohnson5163 sodium bicarbonate in its chemical form is NaHCO3. When heated at high temperature you are essentially removing CO2 and H2O, which leaves you with Na2CO3 (sodium carbonate aka washing soda).

I watched this video because of the powdered laundry detergent video you posted. I see you used borax in this one. Does that help in getting the clothes really clean? Also, would you suggest using 1 full cup of laundry detergent for heavily soiled clothes?My husband fixes jets for the military so the smell of jet fuel is so overbearing sometimes. Lastly, do you suggest this type of bar soap instead of Castile soap for this recipe? Or would either work?

I like using borax but some people (mostly out of the country) have a hard time getting borax so I wanted to have options for both. A little goes a long with this soap but you can always add more essential oils if you want a stronger scent. I think the fels naptha is best fo r this recipe.

I’m wondering if you feel this soap gets your clothes clean. My daughter in law made her own soap for several years in big buckets. I think the recipe was the same......except I don’t know about essential oils in it. But I never thought it got her clothes clean. They looked dingy a lot of the time, and the little girls panties never got stains out. What did you use to help get rid of stains in underwear and baby’s bibs and clothes. She was always happy w/ the homemade detergent, and didn’t say anything about the stains , but I noticed them. What did you use to help w/ stains? I’m interested in knowing. This video is two years old, but Izvestia just seen it right now. I use Clorox, but my daughters get made at me (not really) when I do.

@@earthzeroapothecary absolutely not. Stains aren’t good….I rather use chemicals. Stains look atrocious and make your clothes ugly. I can tell by your comment, that the homemade soap doesn’t get stains out , but that it doesn’t bother you. I love hanging my clothes out on the line, and that helps my dau. In Laws clothes some…..but it still doesn’t take them out! Come up w/ a homemade detergent that does, and I’d be more than happy to use it!

I would leave out the borax tho, if you do some research on it you'll find it's really not great for the skin (especially sensitive skin) etc... Other than that I love your recipe. I made the one for powdered soap, I used your recipe because it doesn't have borax in it.. I love it!

I used an immersion blender in my 5 gallon bucket which helped but I still have clumps. It doesn’t seem to make any difference in how it cleans the laundry though so I’m okay with it!

Did you know you makes use much less soap? That one bar gives me 5 gallons of laundry soap. Goes a LONG way especially in todays HE washers that use much less water. If you have hard water besure to add backing soda. Using vinegar in rince cycle is extremely good for your clothes AND washer.

Yes that is normal. I pour some into a 1/2 gallon mason jar and just shake it really well before each use.
