I had used your design in framing and roof style a few years back on a 10x10 shed on a concrete slab. I made the mistake of using the semi-transparent fiberglass roofing panels. I thought it was clever for the idea of natural light. But living in Iowa..............I could roast a chicken in the summer. But it did keep it a bit warmer in the colder seasons if it was sunny. I even built the push mower "doggy door" on the side so I could park it under the workbench and not need to have it intrusive. I was proud of the fact I built it myself, even the male neighbors were impressed with the mower doggy door and that I used pressure treated on the concrete and attached my framing to that! Thanks to you and your family for being there for us over the years.

I saw your video on the six tool you need to have and I want to Thank you. I feel I can get rid of all the other tools he had and just keep the ones you suggested. Thank you again.

Awesome build ,simple and efficient. Nice To see the vid, but even nicer to live next door and see the real thing being assembled. Great job coordination between Matt and Jeff and of course the lens guy. One thing i found when assembling the tin with the screws on the top of the rib is (In have two of those next door) if you have to remove the snow (low pitch roof) the snow rake keeps hitting the screws and eventually causing them to loosen and makes it difficult to pull the rake and snow off. Bad experience with that on a previous roof (35’ x 15 ‘ ate the cottage Florida Room) where i had to get the snow off. The roof like 2.5 to 3 feet thick of snow it was very difficult not to snag the screws and slide the snow off. So since these screws have a rubber washer i screwed them in the valley, soo much easier to handle and no worries about hitting the screws. ( i think i saw a video on the Tub about that recommendation also .). Just a thought Clyde

Absolutely, my thoughts exactly. It’s a beautiful, but simple and robust design. Perfect for what im looking for - probably not starting until next year, but ill be thinking it through and imagining it many times over lol Shout out from Thunder Bay, Ontario! My sister lives in Kanata, Ottawa, which i believe is roughly close to your area? She runs her own landscaping business, her husband is Navy.

The manufacturers of the type of corrugated metal you used says to put screws in the flat, not on the ridges, except for the ridge cap (or vent.)
@rupe53Ай бұрын
if you put them on the flat it's also easier to rake off the snow without catching the screw heads.

Newbie question... do you have to worry about water intrusion on the edges of the roof panels or should you caulk/seal? Thanks

@HomeRenoVisionDIYАй бұрын
Well Steve it was a great way to see what the difference is. I would never change tools lines just for the experience but having the need to buy tools for him allows us to experiment a little. I will say they work great but they are a lot more pricey!

Wont the rubber gaskets on the metal roof screws eventually dry-rot? Should be silicone instead for longevity, IMO.
@rupe53Ай бұрын
the ones I have seen will easily go 25 - 30 years. Nothing that can't be fixed with a little caulk or roofing tar.
@nyetlokiАй бұрын
Silicone also dry rots and shrinks. Its outdoor design roofing screws and washers.
@rupe53Ай бұрын
@@nyetloki if you get 25 - 30 years on the washers, you can still do another sealer later. How long are you going to be there?

The day I build a superfluous shed like this is the day I realize that I have way more money than I need. By the way, I'm no pro, but I did install a metal roof on my own house a couple of years ago, and my understanding was that you should pre-drill your holes in the metal panels before the roofing screws to allow for expansion and contraction, especially in a Canadian climate. I don't expect a response based on my previous comments on your channel, but others should be cautious. My roof seems to be holding up fairly well, but if your holes are not slightly larger (but not larger than the rubber washers), your metal panels can literally pull your screws out -- one implication being that it's no longer water-tight. I'm a little less confident in this guy now. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
@russguppy8761Ай бұрын
You put the screws on top of the rib. Wouldn’t that flatten it out?
@myronpriest4935Ай бұрын
I agree except where put the screws in the rib I built a few metal roofs and I never put them in the ribs excellent build😅
@ronlovell5374Ай бұрын
Correct layout for sheet goods is not 16 inches with x on one side. You can minus 3/4 inch (15 1/4) put x to the right or add 3/4 inch (16 3/4) and put x to the left. This puts the timbers on correct 16 inch "centers" and won't require adding on additional materials and creating unnecessary weak butt joints, also the lines on the sheathing would've been on top of the beams instead of to the sides. I get that its just a shed but I think showing people how to do it correctly makes more sense.
@bigcountryjdАй бұрын
I'm pretty sure they're 16 on center if he puts his tape on the center of the first board instead of hooking it.
@ronlovell5374Ай бұрын
@bigcountryjd that would be correct as well, but not what he does, which required him to scab on another rafter to take the end of the sheet.

Sir, i watched many videos of yours. I noticed you are constantly mouth breathing. No matter if you are physically "challenged" when not talking or on a light task when not talking. I would recommend you to focus on keeping your mouth closed and breathe trough your nose. You can check the science and data behind it. One simple factor and benefit is filtration and humidity when breathing. So on a chemical level it's necessary to keep an eye on it.
