We are Austin & Sarah.
The two of us grew up as city kids and after we got married realized we dreamed of living a simpler and more self-sufficient life in the country. We packed our bags and bought our little piece of heaven in the beginning of 2021. This channel exists to document our journey of learning how to live a more self-sufficient life.

New backdrop is dope! I would have requested that exact color haha Raising Quail is interesting, I hope that works out for you two. Seems like you can get a lot birds into the coop you built this year. I'm excited to watch you set up rainwater catchment, I will be doing the same thing. And I think the dictionary definition of orchard is like anything more than three trees haha I had to look it up once. And I don't know the numbers, but id guess you will be flooded after a good rain if you collect the water from your coop. Fruit is the way to go IMO. Especially if you are going to be in your spot for the long haul. I might be able to give you guys some cuttings off of our blueberries in the future. If not, I will have to send you the company I got my blueberries from. They are in Wisconsin and I was pleased with everything I ordered. And that's so cool that you will have a little one with you for chores next year:) Btw, I like the podcast setup haha

Thanks! We have a lot to learn about rain water catchment to be able to do it the right way. And lol now I can tell Sarah that yes we do in fact have a real orchard 😂 I would be curious to know where you get the blueberries from. We would love to shop local (Wisconsin) if we can! Happy New Year!

Tell your wife, yes you can collect a lot of water from that chicken run roof you built, I have been on off grid rain water for 5 years, 1,000 gallons is not a lot, I store 12,400 gallons, my pumping system was designed by me, its a off grid 12v pumping system, I have a video up just incase your interested, if you watch , forgive my crappy editing lol...I'm up in the mountains ⛰ in a tropical rain forest.

Oh wow 12k is a ton (at least to me) definitely will check out your video because we have no clue where to start when it comes to rainwater collection! Mountains in the tropics sounds lovely 😊

@@CypressSparrowHomestead Get a rain harvesting ultra leaf eater and water diverter, thats probably the most important things, and a micro mesh filter for the pump...I use water as is for everything except drinking, for that I use a Berkey filter.
