Question #1 on speccing engine mounts for a 2006-11 Odyssey: does it have leather?
@thdjjfsfh3 жыл бұрын
I drove this vehicle for 396k km (almost 250k mile). Original hybrid battery, 4 sets of tires, three sets of brake pad, almost 6 transmission fluid changes, many oil changes. A few maintenance issues with the suspension components. I did indeed needed to change the air intake accordion. At around 375k km, the engine started to misfire and my local mechanic was not able to permanently fix it. Donated what's left of the car to a charity. I now drive a 10 gen accord hybrid.

@dvdouden4 жыл бұрын
The IMA system worked pretty well for me when I was driving a 2011 Honda Insight for four years. Fuel economy was pretty awesome actually. It did about 60 MPG (4L/100KM), had do drive it pretty hard to get it below 50 MPG. This was the only car I ever drove where the fuel economy specs were worse than what it would actually do. I drove it from Rotterdam to Paris and back (about 900 km/560 miles) on a single tank of petrol, and the Insight's tank is _small_, just a bit over 40L (10 Gallon). It would start on the starter motor once every 50 or so starts, to prevent the starter motor from getting stuck. And it would drive short bits, up to a mile or so, on battery power only, but only at constant speed and below 25 or 30 MPH. Too bad that the government decided to change emissions based taxes when I had to pick a new car. The Insight had just a tiny bit too much of CO2/km so that doubled the monthly tax on that car. Had to settle for a Renault Clio IV estate, which in theory would be more fuel efficient, but I averaged that car on 35 MPG...
@dvdouden3 жыл бұрын
@@snackler6102 of course not. Tax rules change every few years so you never know what kind of stunt the government is going to pull next. There are multiple taxes on a car here. First is the emissions tax when you buy a car, the more CO2 per mile the more tax is added to the purchase price of a car. Second is the monthly ownership tax, based on the weight of the car, low emissions or zero emissions vehicle pay less or even nothing. Third is the tax for private use of corporate vehicles where you have to add a percentage of the vehicle’s catalogue price to your taxable income, and again that percentage is based on the emissions of the car. These percentages/rates/CO2 limits change every couple of years and completely change which cars are popular and which are not. Around 2010, hybrid vehicles had no added purchase tax, no ownership tax and the lowest category tax for private use of corporate vehicles. Resulting in a lot of Priusses and Insights being sold. Which was exactly what the government wanted. Four years later, the government decided that this policy was a bit too costly and they were missing out on too much tax income, so they lowered the CO2 limit on those tax rules so only EVs would benefit from them. As a result, a huge number of hybrid vehicles were exported to other countries which still were subsidizing even second hand hybrids, and lots of people (including me) decided to go for a smaller ICE vehicle since Hybrids became thousands of euros more expensive overnight.
@securityguy4 жыл бұрын
The 7th gen Accord hybrid V6 actually has a lighter hood, aluminum front and rear crash beams, and rear aluminum knuckles to lighten the overall weight of the car due to weight increase from the high voltage battery in the rear. Most of those parts can be swapped onto the standard non-hybrid V6 to lighten the car. The 06-07 hybrid also has a rear diffuser which was also designed to allow better air flow out and under the car, this is also interchangeable onto the standard Accord.
@automotivetv98612 жыл бұрын
How much pounds in weight savings do you recon those parts saved?
@willdavids70754 жыл бұрын
Very good review! When I have to change a lower ball joint on a Honda I always put a new wheel bearing (sometimes a hub also) in since the knuckle has to come off. It you put cheap ball joints(or wheel bearings) since they’re loaded you’ll be doing the job again in a few months usually.

Locomotives use electric motors for drive because there's simply no reliable way to put all that power into the rails without going electric. Using a generator to power electric motors, which don't require a clutch or a torque converter, end up being the most reliable way to do so.

You wouldn't want to see my poor 01 Tundra... 290k miles of new england highway driving in the winter. It's so rusty I seriously can't even work on it anymore except for oil changes, need safety glasses just to change the oil because rust flakes falls off in your eye when you touch stuff. The rear end rusted through in like 4 different spots, the frame rotted out, but the truck itself is very nice, well taken care of... such a shame. I'm going to see if I can sell it to someone who is up to the task, but it might need to be junked.

Yeah Canada and the midwest will do that. Usually 10-15 year old cars get junked because they are too rusty to drive anymore due to salt use. It’s usually never the engine on Toyotas and Hondas

Can't you coat them with something???

Since you elaborate things in such a detail so why not have a laser pointer especially when explaining parts that are far to reach and touch... like under the vehicle ... thanks for time and effort... ✨👏🏽🙏

I just don't know if the new Accord hybrid is any better but it is somewhat quicker than than 1.5T. Can i still find parts for this old hybrid? I'd bet they're not gonna be cheap

Well I'm gonna part this one out eventually, once we dig in and learn how it works.

Enjoy your mechanical reviews of vehicles. Can you / will you do one on how to defeat the stupid auto idle stop that's plaguing new vehicles? A way to permanently disable it so that it doesn't come on if the owner doesn't want it on.

May I ask what you primary business is, a junkyard owner or mechanic (besides being a KZbinr)? What are you doing with the parts after taking it apart? This car still runs. I would think you can sell it more as one piece, No?

I'm a Mechanical engineer. The cool parts like gears I keep. The engines I'll make into coffee tables. The rest goes to scrap.

Help. I just bought a used one. My miles are only 19/20. Im getting it ready for a tune up. I just put gas treatment in on my last fill up. Half way through the tank load and no difference yet in miles. It obviously an older car, but still. I just spent 1100$ on a dang used or rebuilt battery. Ill have it paye doff in 8 months, buying it from a mechanic friend. He will do the tune up next week. What else can I do to improve the mileage because I drive pt for a food delivery service. This car is deff and improvement over my 95 Ranger gas wise though. The Range needs yet another transmission so its parked until this is paid off. ANy information will be nice. Thanks. Althea

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I got mine new in 2006 and seldom got better than 21 MPG in mixed city/highway driving. If I went on a lot trip, it went up to 27 MPG; not much to write home about. On the bright side, my next-door neighbor, who owned a V6 Accord coup at the time, borrowed it and immediately noticed how much more power it had.

In the UK this car would fail the annual MOT on that rusted out sill (rocker). The whole structural box section is likely rusted out and the car dangerous and only good for parts or scrap. That ball joint play would also be a fail...
@speedkar994 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That's why I scrapped it. The whole rocker just crunches as I jack it up.
