Couldn't stop thinking on how well this video was made so I paused halfway to comment. You've some seriously insightful points and critical thinking skills above us masses. I'm sure we all appreciate how you considered this issue from so many view points, to even mentioning a few situations and considerations the designers at Honda has. This is not hearsay, speculation or just brushing it aside like others. Last but most importantly, you presented your ideas so well despite this train of thought being this complex, and the video editing is the cherry on top. Love the appropriateness of the clips chosen and I love the speedy riding shots, the rest are too pussy to do a review without actually reviewing it. Thanks a ton man..

Alright - so on the weight picking up this bike from the ground: I took regular Africa Twin DCT (first edition - CRf1000l) on amateur rally - super rough conditions (rain,wet grass hill - going up and down - bad tyres for the circumstances TKC80 - it was like riding on the ice, inch too much of the throttle and bike starts spinning - most cases landing on the ground - i was picking it up from the ground like 7-8 times in the row - with no problem really - I could go on but the last fall cause engine protection bar damaging the engine cover, oil leaked - wasn’t able to continue. Few years later I did other amateur rally on Tenere 700 - i picked it up twice and it was tough - 3rd one took me a really long time as I was exhausted and it cost all of my energy - would not be able to do that anymore if that will happen. Maybe It’s just my isolated experience - but because how „thin” the Tenere is and how flat it lays on the ground - eve! though it weight way less the AT it was way more challenging for me to handle offroad with my skills Both bike lands in „heavy” category really - but AT is really not that bad in comparison to things like Tenere - so I disagree on that point - and with both you can do pretty crazy stuff offroad not being Chris Birch - but yes - the less experience skill u have - the more exhausting experience it will be. Of course - AS add some extra limitation coming from extra weight and 19inch front.

Thanks for the video! Nice job presenting the many important aspects. One aspect I have always appreciated in Hondas is the reliability. It is a peace of mind to know your bike will last long and not present high maintenance costs (and surprises).

Competitors make their peak power using premium fuel. I’d prefer cheaper standard fuel that’s always available, no matter where you ride

The AT AS DCT is an excellent choice for many riders, especially those of shorter stature who spend little time on challenging off road terrain. For serious off road, the standard model weighs considerably less, and is far more rugged in a tip over. The DCT case cover protrudes more and breaks easily. Once you lose your transmission fluid, you are stuck. The limited ground clearance, top heavy nature, and lack of proper 19” off road tire availability also compromise the bike’s suitability for difficult terrain. Honda product planners realized that the majority of purchasers rarely travel off road, so this model is squarely aimed at the largest body of prospective purchasers. The DCT would be the best choice for two up riding. I regret that Honda doesn’t offer the excellent electrically controlled adjustable suspension on the standard model here in the USA. That would be my choice.

My only criticism of the 2024 ATAS is for what it doesn’t have, either the price needs to come down or the features need to go up. - It doesn’t have a QS as standard - It doesn’t have a heated seat as standard - It doesn’t have 140/50 hp - It doesn’t have one handed screen adjustment as standard - It doesn’t have panniers/top case as standard. Imagine if it had all that as standard, you would look past the 95 hp a little quicker along with the $20,000 usd price tag. I’m glad it has a 19” front wheel. I don’t wanna take something that big, pretty and heavy off-road, ever. I’m too poor to afford new fairings.

a very good Video! I really like the technical backside but most channels only show how it sounds, looks and feels. Also i love your comparisons to get the bikes in order, where they are placed!

Do you think it is worth it to upgrade from Transalp to the new ATAS DCT?

I really hate when people say things they know nothing about and state it like it is fact coming from someone they dont know. I am an american i own both a DR650 and a super tenere 1200. I know they are not a new motorcycle and for that matter i have never heard or seen anybody here claim they are new or even updated in the least. If you have an opinion state it as so.

Was considering the ATAS24 coming from a Tracer 9gt+ ... not an adventure bike but if you ever come across one I'd love to hear your opinions on it. cheers!!
@adv-moto3 ай бұрын
I love Tracer 9, but in the cheaper versions. The GT+ Pro Max is getting too close to GSX-S1000GX, S1000XR, Versys 1000, etc. The best part of the Tracer 9 - it's funny. Most touring bikes around 1000cc too big to fun - weight, geometry, etc. Cons of the Tracer 9 is scary low ground clearance, and even the GT-suspension is great on spanish twisties, but I wouldn't take it to asian badlands.

They just need to bring back hydraulic valve lifters, otherwise the valve check is too frequent and too expensive.

Can someone please explain what the purpose of a quick-shifter on a motorcycle that is built to spend a lot of its life off-road? To me it seems as out-of-place as putting a gigantic rear wing on a lifted 4X4. Is it just so AT owners can play "sportbike" on the streets, or what?
@adv-moto4 ай бұрын
First, the ATAS is not a motorcycle that spend lots of its life off-road - that's a myth. Secondly, the quickshifter used on some hardenduros. For example, in a loose hill, a quickshifter will allow you to instantly shift gear without losing traction. Thirdly, not a word about quickshifter in the video.
@adamriese36103 ай бұрын
lets face it, that thing is to heavy to ride it really hard. Its for trails and most of them use it only on the road. Its a comfort feature and you don't have to use the qs. A QS can work like a semi automatic

I really like your reviews for a number of reasons. They usually leave me wanting to own the motorcycle you just tested to find out if it makes me feel the same as it did to you, while at no point my sensors tell me that you want to sell that bike to me. Does that make sense?

Bro there are youtubers doing 130 on dirt with the Africa Twin what the fuck are you talking about? Suspension? I'd say it's skill issue.
@michsky463 ай бұрын
21 inch that was real africa twin , you talking non senses here. was not only ground clearance as well on road bit higher is better view. 19" wheel is exactly the reason to don't buy ATAS.
