This shows how I pinpoint an ignition fault on a 1980s Honda CB250N stator ignition coils and then carry out the fix, similar fault finding and fixes are carried on virtually identical stators that are fitted to the Yamaha SR500, Harley Davidson MT350,500 and Honda CB400A Automatic.

Just natural cooling, no resistor.

Bye! I am writing to you from Italy, I want to ask if you have ever rewound a stator of a Kawasaki KLR600 year 87 (or KLR650), it has three-phase alternator and two coils for CDI power supply. Since I have the two coils in dispersion towards ground (Ohm value at the ends are within the parameters), I would like to know how much voltage they should generate to then feed the CDI. I haven't found any news about this parameter (Vpeak or Vrms). Most likely I also have problems with the CDI but I want to proceed step by step to the conclusion (I hope..😊😊). Thank you.

Sometimes coil Ohms values can be correct and it still can be faulty? I am not sure what the exact voltage output should be for that particular stator but I would guess it would be around the 80+ volts AC at cranking speed?

@@bbbikeshop8359 Thank you for answering... I measured 42Vac with a Fluke multimeter, I want to make another measurement with an oscilloscope to verify the peak-to-peak... Unfortunately, the voltages in the most important junctions are not written in the service manual. With my multimeter on the exciter coil I measure 84 Ohms and no leakage towards ground Exciter coil workshop manual from 61 to 114 Ohms, too much excursion in my opinion ) at 15° Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit), the spark is acceptable but after turning the engine for half an hour (80 degrees C - 176 F) the engine stalled, no spark, still now with a cold engine no spark. I will also measure on CDI. I don't know...

Hi BBBikes, I am from Sri Lanka(Ceylon) and having an issue with my hawk mark 2 bike after washing it at a service station. It was running fine before the wash. now no spark at all. my twin connector (white wire/green wire ) reads 214 ohms on white wire and 217 ohms on green? wire against ground. further in 6 pin connector (only 3 wires connected. green,orange,and yellow) green to orange 17.2 ohms and green to yellow 141 ohms. any possible reason please. I checked the CDI and ignition coil with a running bike ,both are ok. can pulser coil go bad also? please help, regards Rohitha

Hi Rohitha. If your stator is like the same in the video then the Green (which is ground) to White should be in excess of 350 ohms, which means the Low speed source coil/s is not producing enough volts to power the CDI and HT Coil.

@@bbbikeshop8359 Thank you very much for the speedy reply. Yes mine is exactly the same but colours are different, could be due to aging. I found another video of yours about 3 years old, it is the same 250 coil I own as well as one you have on this video. I will get ready to rewind the coil or will look for a good coil locally which is more difficult than winding. Thank you immensely for the perfect information provided, at least I know how to check a coil if I find a one locally. PS: what is the SWG value of the low speed source coil? Regards, Rohitha
