I think this is by far the best channel about FL5. I just got my FL5 last month and I also intend to use it as my main family car. It is simply such an amazing car. I agreed with everything you said about the goods and bads of the FL5. But on PPF, don't feel regret about it, PPF is not bullet proof, and rock chips can still get in, which basically can damage both the PPF and the paint in some situations, which means you have to tear off the PPF and repaint and then reapply the PPF, not a very enjoyable process as you can imagine. Anyway, it's just amazing how cars and KZbin bring car and family guys like us together, despite us speaking different languages and living so far away from each other.

That’s truly the best compliment for me, thank you! It’s great to see more people using the FL5 as a family car, and your advice on PPF is really helpful. Like you said, even though we speak different languages and live far apart, it’s amazing to connect with fellow car enthusiasts like this. I’m so glad I started this KZbin channel-thank you!

Really enjoy the videos as well! Ordered a few Japanese only accessories for my father’s red FL5 and now I’m prepping to get the first oil change done. May I ask what your opinion is on using 5W30 instead of 0W20? I’m going to get quite technical and nerdy but I want other opinions. So I don’t know if I should stick with the 0W20 for the rest of the winter since it’s thinner and will provide better protection during cold startups or switch to 5W30 for better protection during spirited driving since it’s thicker. The manual allows 0W30 but in general there are so many different opinions on this that I’m quite overwhelmed. I know that the oil change is more important than what oil you put in so long as you stick with what Honda recommends out of the 3 but I really want to make sure the engine will last as long as possible. I let the car warm up before I do any spirited driving, let the turbo cool down properly so I don’t thermal shock it and even if I have to do a short trip I take a bit of a longer route. Ireland only got 4 Type R’s so that’s why I’m trying to do my utmost when it comes to maintenance. Let me know you think please regarding the type of oil.
@FromCivicWindow20 күн бұрын
@@miklos1298 Thank you for the comment! A red FL5 is such a great choice! I completely understand wanting to extend the engine's lifespan, especially since this might be the last fully internal combustion Type R. As for oil, I'd recommend 0W20 for the cold Irish winter, as it’s excellent for cold starts. Personally, I’d go easy on the spirited driving during winter, then switch to 5W30 in spring and summer to enjoy the performance more. 0W30 is also a good option, since it handles both cold and warm temperatures well, so if you want to keep some sporty driving in winter, that could be a good choice. In my case, I use MUGEN MS-P 0W-40 just in the summer, since I do a lot of highway and long-distance driving, so that viscosity works well for me. Just my opinion, so feel free to take it as one perspective. It’s fantastic to see you taking such good care of one of only four FL5s in Ireland. Wishing you many enjoyable drives with your FL5!

@@FromCivicWindow Oh this is the last ICE CTR for sure. I think the chief engineer even mentioned that in a few videos. I only do some spirited sessions on the way back when the car has fully warmed up. I might go for the 0W30 then for the winter but I’ll have a chat with the head mechanic at the dealership. Definitely want to keep on top of the maintenance as she’s not going to be a garage queen. I think after the 1st oil change I’m going to stick between a 3,000 to max 5,000km interval. Thank you for getting back to me and sharing your thoughts. May I ask what sort of intervals you are doing in your FL5?
@FromCivicWindow20 күн бұрын
@@miklos1298 Got it, 0W30 seems like a good choice if you’re planning on some spirited driving in winter. Balancing protection and performance is really important! I actually drive my FL5 every day for work, so it’s used in pretty severe conditions, and I aim to change the oil about every 3,000 km. With advances in technology, I think recent cars can probably go up to 5,000 km without any issues, but I play it safe.
Nice video-story, good moments, fantastic places, a beautiful family... and finally what to say: amazing car! I understand you well my friend! 😉

Thanks for sharing, very nice video with family's perspective as well. I am from Canada and go to Japan very frequently. Last time I drive FK8 in Tokyo, Hakone, Enoshima, Mt. Haruna was a very pleasant experience. 6 Hours continuous drive and no back pain, plenty of trunk space for luggage, seats are excellent, just the tire was very noisy being 20". I am currently the owner of a GR Corolla Circuit Edition (In Japan is the RZ) with 15,000 kms and I have very mixed feelings and not enjoying it as much. Trunk space is too small, have trouble fitting luggage or larger items, feels unrefined in terms of ride quality (too bouncy), low interior quality, low headlight output and no arm rest. Car is very good in snow/ice with winter tires, and no rattle noises so far. Compared to FL5 at the same price, FL5 feels much more premium with smooth body panels, higher interior quality and more refined drivetrain. Unfortunately, it is impossible to buy an FL5 here in Canada without paying ~20% extra dealer markup. I was able to test drive the Acura Integra Type S recently, which is the same platform, engine and transmission from the FL5, and left a very good 1st impression. Ride quality was very good and car felt very refined. Cargo space was excellent and interior felt high class. This is why I have mixed feeling with the GR Corolla. Hope I can decide after this coming winter. Please continue enjoying the FL5 and making memories as more and more cars will be going hybrid/EV in the future.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment from Canada! It really made me happy to see how knowledgeable you are about Japan and Japanese cars. Your insights, based on your real experience with the GR Corolla, are very helpful. The GRC is a great car, but I completely agree with your thoughts when comparing it to the FL5 in the same price range. Personally, I haven’t driven the Acura Integra Type S, but I believe it has a similar level of refinement as the FL5. Since the FL5 has been continuously developed from the FK8, the development time is much longer than the GRC, which explains the significant difference in refinement. So your comment that “the entire car feels refined” is absolutely spot on. I’m really sorry to hear that it’s so difficult to get an FL5 in Canada. I hope you’ll be able to make your final decision after this winter. I’ll also continue enjoying my FL5. As you said, with hybrids becoming more common, we should make the most of internal combustion cars while we can. Let’s keep enjoying car life together!

i would get the ITS if I were you. only 530 rumoured allocations for FL5 in Canada for the entire production run
@themaskedplayerАй бұрын
@@ShaiyanHossain I wish it were that simple. Recent appraisals for my car has left me a bit shocked as the trade in values have dropped quite a bit compared to earlier this year. Will just tough it out until things become more reasonable. Maybe we'll see a new GR86 with the G16E engine or new offerings from JDM land on performance cars.

Nice, fellow FL5 owner! 23,000 km in just half a year-that's impressive! And yeah, it really is an amazing sports car that’s practical enough for work too!
Nice to see another FL5 owner! Thanks for the nice comment. Japan does have a lot of narrow roads, but with all the coastlines, mountains, and rivers, there are plenty of scenic drives to enjoy.
wow amazing, airbag on driver still active or not?
@FromCivicWindow2 ай бұрын
Thanks! This MUGEN sports steering wheel isn’t compatible with the airbag, so it’s no longer active. However, I chose the SPOON steering boss that comes with a switch relocation kit, so Honda SENSING still works.

Oh really? I didn’t know that. Yellowing sounds a bit annoying 😅 But my FL5 is Championship White, so it’s already kind of an off-white anyway. Thanks for the info!
