I have 2 of these Honda 2200's (one companion) on the back of my camper. They work phenomenally. I can use my laptop in the AC while watching TV. Exactly what was needed.

These Honda inverter generators have a reputation for simply being the best of the best. Many Honda owners have told me how they wished they'd bought their Honda instead of the cheaper brand they bought first. Thanks for the comment

Tried a 3000 Honda generator/ inverter on a refrigerator and it would not run the compressor. Does size and length of the extension cord affect the power quality and output? Used a 100 foot -2 awg cord

@brucewestergaard - The size and length of the cord will affect the output but only some voltage drop over long distance. First up, you say you have a 2-awg cord but probably meant 12 awg? Two awg is huge but 12 awg is plenty for a refer/compressor. I'd need more information to determine the issue like does the inverter trip out because overload or the engine bogs down too much with the compressor kicks off? Does the refer detect low voltage over the extension cord and shut down? Any other loads plugged into the inverter? Just some more info about the setup.

I converted my EU2000i to run on propane. It can sit unused for ages, and it starts right up every time.

@@LivingCommonSense It was a kit I bought online. It adds a fuel valve in the gas line so that one can still run gasoline if desired.

At some point during testing inverters, I began always bonding the neutral and ground mainly to protect the oscilloscope in the event an inverter started sending line voltage down a neutral either due to malfunction or miswiring from the factory. It would be rare for it to happen, if ever but still. So I was hoping to give you a definitive answer on this and went back a watched some of the raw camera feeds. I don't have any video to indicate if this had a bonded neutral/ground or not. I know this doesn't answer your question but I would if I knew for certain.

@@LivingCommonSense Thanks for the response! I recently ended up putting a toggle switch on my honda 2200 kinda for the same reason so I can easily bond and unbond it when needed and not lose an outlet...

@StrongManMatt - That's good idea. I rewired (moved one wire - un-bonded) a 8500 watt generator head because its ground fault breaker kept tripping when I connected it to my house transfer panel. It's bonded in the main panel. I could add toggle or rocker switch like you have and have the best of both worlds. Thanks for the comment.

Have you tested the EU3000IS in the same manner that you did the EU 2200i? I have a EU3000is that does not operate the induction motors in my Pelpro wood pellet stove so suspecting it is really a modified sine wave inverter.

@Joe - We did test the EU3000IS but didn't publish the video because the decibel meter was bad out of focus. The output on the EU3000IS was a good quality pure sine wave. It was also the quietest of all the generators we tested. The circular saw tripped it up a bit on the first hit but the generator recovered. It worked fine with the circular saw there after and the output made the full 2800 watts continuous. It's only drawback was it is heavy; it takes two people to load it into the back of the truck. Do your induction motors not run full speed or not at all?

@@LivingCommonSense I only tried it once last fall but didn't let it run very long since it didn't sound like the motors were operating correctly. They were running during the Pelpro 130 stove start up phase but seemed to slow to me and sounded different than normal. The pellet stove was the only load on the generator and thinking back I didn't have it grounded. I may try it again with generator grounded and with some other resistive load running as well. I don't have an O scope so thanks for the reply. I found an entry on a ham operators blog where they seem to describe finding harmonics at 160, 80, 40, and 20 hz during operation of a Heathkit 600w mobile amp operating on the EU3000IS. Noise went away when they switched to a battery system. Thinking trying it again with chassis grounded may be worthwhile. Thanks again.

@Joe - It may be worth noting that when testing the polarity on either the Honda 2000 or predator equivalent, we found some voltage on the neutral side of the plug before anything was plugged into it. I don’t recall the voltage but it was more than I wanted to plug the scope into. I ended building a plug were I bonded the neutral and ground, then plugged it into my test setup to be certain I didn’t feed live voltage into the ground side of the probes. When I bonded the neutral to the ground, all the voltage on the neutral went away and the hot leg, neutral and ground all looked good. I never ran another test without having the neutral and ground bonded on my bench equipment. I don’t know if that would effect the induction motor but I could not come up with a down side when I’m connecting my scope.
