Thanks for your review with very useful information. I have an 8 year old EU2000i and it has been great. For virtually no noise reduction and a very small 200 watt power increase in the EU2200i, I have no desire to upgrade. If Honda would have increased the power output to maybe at least 2500 watts or more in a like sized unit, then I might be interested in upgrading.

I would say only upgrade if you absolutely have to in order to run that larger rv ac unit if you have one and that’s your priority but if you have one of the older ones that’s tried and true, that extra 200 watts might not even be needed. My last power outage, I ran 2 refrigerators and a freezer chess,2 TVs with cable boxes, internet/router, a few lamps and a box fan continuous and the average wattage was around 500. Even when the compressors kicked on it was only for a few seconds that there was a surge. I just plugged in each unit one at a time and let it run for a bit then plugged in the others after the surge of each unit went back down. I even manage to run my 1000 watt microwave while all these items were running. So unless you just want the latest and feel you actually have to have the extra power then go for it but as for me, I’m sticking with my eu2000 for now because I really only needed it once or twice a year. I can just use the extra money on accessories and maintenance.

I have an early one bought in 2003 for a "Finding Nemo" project I was working on. (that's how I remember when I v=bough it) It was running 12 hours a day for that project for 3 weeks. Since then It has -powered my house through the infamous back feed cable (Hey it's only 2000 watts. #12 wire can handle that.) it ran for about 8 hours one Thanksgiving when we had a power out. It did shut down with overload protection a couple of times until I figured out my 110 jacuzzi heater was on. I shut that off and it ran two refrigerators and a oven igniter and whatever else was on that leg of my panel. Just went out today after watching some videos on it. Cleaned the carb and it started on the 2nd pull. I thank you for this as I was starting to think about upgrading but 200 watts extra with an engine that is 20% bigger but the same size fuel tank. I think I will keep my old girl and just give her the TLC that she needs. Thanks you just save me $1200

For ac loads u can not get the watts just by simply multiplying volts and amps. If u only multiply volts and amps you get the voltamps reading. And the generator is rated for 1800 volt amps and 2200kva peak. That hair dryer has a triac which causes very poor power factor when set to low and that's why the power meter is measuring lower watts than va. When u set it to max the triac is bypassed and so there remains only a heater which is a resistive load and power factor goes unity which makes the meter read out in kv and watts same. The meter is accurate here and the actual heat output is still 170w.

Yes it can be if you hook it to a generator inlet box that’s wired to a critical loads panel. That’s normally the easiest so you can put the circuits you want. Like the kitchen for the fridge or gas/electric water heater. All depends what you need to run. That is what you need to decide.

Absolutely worth it when running a 15,000 BTU RV rooftop A/C with a Hush Kit, and Micro Air Easy Start installed, and the Honda EU 2000i will not quite run it, but the EU 2200i will!!! That’s my case! LOVE LOVE LOVE Both of these generators and absolutely agree that you don’t need to upgrade from EU 2000i to the EU 2200i unless you have a situation like mine!! Agreed: I have a 12,000 BTU Window AC and the EU 2000i could not cold start the AC unit. It was not a big problem however since whenever I needed to run off the generator, I'd always run (2) EU 2000i's in parallel, but after purchasing (2) EU 2200i's, Just ONE EU 2200i can cold start that same AC unit. That 200watt and 22cc improvement makes a big difference! I too kept both of the 2000i's

Thank you for your input. Our very old, 600+ hrs Honda 2000 will sometimes work with our 13.5 roof air but when it's very hot (like when you really need air conditioning) it sometimes struggles or fails to start it. We also have installed the Micro Air. For all other jobs the old Honda works fine but I do believe it's getting tired.
@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
It should run the AC unit with a easy start and watt pull should be about 1000 -1100 but correct when hotter heat will cause resistance a king it harder to start and run. Plus if up in altitude that only makes it harder. Only thing to due it make sure you have fresh fuel, good spark plug and clean airfilter, but also check the spark arrestor and make sure that clean. If all is good than yes could be getting tired. Although 600 hours isn’t that much for a Honda
@lesolson680 Жыл бұрын
@@bricknboxer I definitely Understand the EU 2000 producing a bit less power when it is hot, all generators are susceptible to that.Iin my case using the EU 2200i overcomes that issue running the same air conditioner simply because it produces a bit more power to push it over the edge of what is required and makes it easier to handle even in hot weather.. Good Luck!!

Would like to know if the 2200 uses more fuel for same load (eg. 500W in eco, or 1500W on Eco). From the specs sheet (fuel capacity and runtime), it seems as *the new one burns more fuel per Wh?*
@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
The 2200 has a larger engine. And larger engines burn more fuel. Plain and simple, especially because its just a small carb engine with no fuel injection measures so smaller engine will burn less fuel.
@yxcvmk Жыл бұрын
@@johnnysweekends Yeah, in general I am with you, but there are instances where larger displacements will be more efficient than smaller ones for the same output. And on top of that, with so many years between the release of the 2000 to the 2200, I would have assumed that the efficiency overall (for the engine and the inverter) would have increased to the point, where at least the 2200 would use the same and not more fuel for the same amount of Wh... Guess I was wrong :-)

Thanks for making these videos. It helped my decision to spend the $ for proven quality. I just bought one of these very newest units with the co minder. I will absolutely find a way to defeat it this winter when this year's work ends. Seems no one has figured it out yet, or I haven't searched long enough. I'm a highly certified Ford technician of over 15 years and an expert in the 12v electrical field, I'll surely figure it out, and spread the knowledge around. I'm contemplating one larger unit, or to get another and parallel for heavier loads. I've read where you can parallel even more together? Maybe I'll have to try it. 😂 So far, I've added a 12gal Sceptor tank with a super high quality, American made quick disconnect fuel line that was crazy expensive and total overkill, and the anodized aluminum bundle(oil extension, cap, magnetic drain plug) an hour meter(I know Bluetooth counts them as well) and a cover for storage. I have 36 hours on it so far, 4 oil changes in that period. Lots of metal in the first two changes within the first hour. I'm seeing near zero now. I expect my next change at the 50hr mark to be near zero. Rotella 5w40 T6 is what I use for my particular cold weather use(zero degrees F and below slightly, on average). Pulled on the very first try out of the box, no kidding, maybe the second compression stroke literally, and every-single-time since. I'm pretty impressed with that. Makes me feel like it was $ well spent. I almost went with something else, but after realizing how much praise they get online everywhere, and here on this channeI spent the extra $ and went team red. You've got far more experience with gen sets. I also have a Yamaha ef2400ishc, but this is way lighter, same size engine almost, more fuel efficient, and just as powerful. My Yamaha will get donated. That's how good this Honda has been so far. I use it to keep my truck warm with a space heater in the winter months doing security overnight in the la sal mountains near my home in Moab at 10k feet. Even up there, where it's used, it starts first pull, always. I can't wet stack my diesel truck idling it at these sub freezing temps to stay warm all night and morning, so this takes that abuse. Cheaper than an engine replacement from oil dilution, it truly saves a ton of wear and fuel. I should have a Wabasto diesel powered block heater, but this is actually cheaper, and multi use. I can't plug my a/c from my 5th wheel into the Wabasto! 😂 And my truck starts in negative temps after a over night sit like butter. Cold weather, high elevation, high watt abuse for 12 hours strait at a time. Y'all be talking these things up something fierce, let's see it pass MY grueling test. I'm curious how many hours I can get, with very rigorous maintenance. I only hope the engine is as quality as the tried and tested japanese unit. Soon it will also see duty in parallel to power the toy hauler, charging a 1000ah lithium bank, laundry duty, cooking with electric, water heater.... All the heavy shit. I'm Thai myself(look at my crazy last name) and hope my Thai brothers built the particular unit I bought from the depot on a VERY good Friday. Cause I'ma hammer this thing into an oblivion, with a literal endless fuel supply. Let's see what Japan has on build quality, vs Thai built. Thanks for the reviews, I've watched many, and almost went a complete different direction, but I like quality stuff. So far, I haven't been disappointed. Let's see if that continues. You're welcome for the longest comment you'll ever receive on youtube! 🤣 Thumbs up and subbed for more reviews! Thanks again man!

Except for two things: RPM's and Engine displacement. The 2000 watt generator with the smaller motor will run at higher RPM's which means more wear, and the larger engine size of the 2200 watt generator will handle initial compressor load from a refrigerator or A/C unit much better without dropping down in volts as much as the 2000 watt version. All other things being equal, I'm taking the 2200 watt version over the 2000 watt version all day long.

Ahh but what about Honda quality. There have been far less issues with the eu2000 than the eu2200 which does not seem to have the same quality build the eu2000 has. Some say it was the last of the Honda 20 year generators as even Honda seems to realize that 20 year units don’t sell more products. Sooo 🤷🏼♂️ I prefer the 2200 if I didn’t have either one.
