Also...watch out for the oil port metering valve...it can fall out of the cover when reinstalling....it will kill your grom if it comes out... it's in the front of the case near the cylinder. Make sure it's in.

Thanks Brother. This was nice to refer to for my new Honda Monkey 125cc. Perfect video!!! Surprising to me that the pesky 1st gear rough take off from a stop went away. I thought I was stuck with that nuisance due to a too tall 1st gear but the oil change made it run SWEET!

I liked the penny idea but opted to buy the kitaco gear holder instead. Sucked spending about $30 on it, but after hearing the lost penny reply I'm glad I did. Just did my first 600 mile oil change on my honda monkey. Great tutorial. Only thing I had to do different is hold onto the rear set bolt as well on the shifter side since it was spinning in place while I tried to unbolt the rear set. Great video and guidance. Tnx

As I recall locktite is an anaerobic adhesive, meaning it doesn’t need air to cure. Just clean the screw threads, apply a drop of locktite toward the end of the screw, install the screw and torque it down. No need to wait until it “dries”. Actually if you torque the screws to specification locktite is unnecessary, but it won’t hurt anything. (Caution: Always use low strength or blue locktite. If you apply red or high strength locktite it will be very hard to remove the screws next time.)

Gold Plug MP-01 is the part number for a quality stainless steel magnetic drain plug for the Grom. If you decide to go with Gold plug you need to pay close attention to the torque specifications for the oil drain plug(you should with the stock plug as well), as stainless is much harder than the case material and can easily strip the threads if over-torqued.

Yo AD! Nice vid man, thanks came in super handy. I did drop the penny in my case too but was able to find it and dig it out w a pair of needle nose, no worries and I like the penny suggestion worked super well! In addition, I used the penny between the gears from the bottom when tightening the spinner cover and it allowed me to torque the 3 bolts down and avoid using loctite (I heard it’s a b&!@$ to loosen loctited bolts later on so wanted to avoid using it) One Q for you, when I was done I found a lock washer on the ground. Don’t remember it coming of the Grom when I was taking stuff apart but not too sure. May just have been laying around randomly from something else. Do you recall removing a lock washer during this job? Thanks again AD!

That is a centrifugal oil filter, and Honda Cub engines have had them since he beginning of time. They spin the shit out of the oil before it heads down the crankshaft to the main bearings and big end, and they work very very well. Pain in the arse to clean, but no need for a costly crap filter. Loctite hardens once air is excluded, that is why the bottles are half full when new. No need to wait 24 hours AFAIK. I get you use the bike, and it is no tarts handbag, but if you are taking cases off it is a smart move to give it a bloody good clean first just in case.

Two yrs and no replies?😳 You probably know by now but it is a thread locking compound you put on the threads of a bolt then tightening the bolt. It sets like a glue and reduces the ability of vibration loosening the bolt. As for the strengths, blue is the go to for most applications. It holds hard but still able to crack it loose without risk of shearing off the bolt head!

Instead of a penny, I just twisted a paper towel nice and tight. Popped right off, no risk of a penny getting lost and easier to grab.

I just test rode a monkey 125.. the engine is the same as the grom. It punches above its weight... I was surprised by the torque. I liked it. I'm ashamed to say...I bought it. I own a monkey 125.. And I like it....I payed dearly for getting one of the first ones in Ga. The mark up was crazy. Much more expensive than the grom....I guess that retro thing is worth some coin...I do notice that cagers like to disrespect smaller bike...you know things like going out of their turn at 4 way stops and trying to run you over...but, I Carry a side arm...the first person to hit me with a car will get a few shots in their direction. It's only fair.

That penny is a BAD idea. It fell inside my engine, It took a LOT of time and work to get it out. At least use a larger coin like a gold dollar or a quarter, and maybe put a string on it, better yet make or buy a wrench to hold the spinner in place.

HOLY SHIT! The sight of 'metal shavings' inside a 'HONDA' engine almost is enough to cause me to need fresh underwear! A 'HONDA' engine? "Say it ain't so!" (in fifty-years of riding and driving...I've NEVER seen that much build-up of 'shavings' in an oil-pan or filter...that's an insane amount of serious damage going on!) It took a few seconds...and I put '2 & 2' together...and the answer is YOU ARE DELIBERATELY 'BASHING THE GEARS' WHEN SHIFTING! That's the only possible answer for 'where and why the fuck is all this metal coming from?'You said so yourself..."I beat the crap outta' this!" (you ain't kidding!) Instead of allowing 'case-hardened' gears to 'gradually wear-in' from repeated meshing...you're putting enormous stress on them with 'speed-shifting' and 'clutch-popping' which then serves as causation for surface-layers of 'hard-steel' to 'flake' from the impact of 'slamming one gear into another'...like slamming two hammers together 'face-to-face'. (Here is a 'quick and easy' tip...get a 'nasal-cannula tubing' from a drugstore...take the finger-pump from an empty hand-soap container and insert the 'pump-tube intake' into the cannula-tubing (it's larger and the pump-tube will fit snug) and then insert the tubing into the oil-fitting w/the dipstick out...and start pumping!)This is a 'practical application' of the 'Inverse Square Principle' in that your finger-pumping is creating at least x3 'atmospheres of force' at the tubing's end and it WILL'suck that shit out' of the engine! Keep 'probing' around until you're 'drawing air' and you're 'good to go' for a re-fill.The huge advantage? You can do this with a 'dead-cold' engine and the tubing will'suck-up' anything that has 'settled' at the lowest -point in the engine.(this will work with ANY engine...but...with a larger motor it will take longer! A LOT longer!)

GUYS! Don't you ever use a penny to block that shit. I just did like this today and the penny dropped inside the engine, all the way down and there is no space to get out it took me 4 hour to get out. So use there something BIG. It was a nightmare to get the penny out from there :( .
