Yep. K-pop idols in groups are colleagues first and potentially friends second. It takes time to build a relationship with each other and being in a group together requires a ton of trust that takes time to build. As far as idols leaving the idol life, it happens. People get tired of being scrutinized left and right, performing with impossible schedules, and it's okay. Naeun left Apink for acting and as sad as I am that she's no longer with the group, I'm happy that she's following what she wants. Stage presence varies because of the many different concepts that groups have. I'm a Kep1er stan and the fandom popped off about their album sales but initially, digitals were low as hell. I'm glad they improved but you're very right about how popularity truly means that both physical and digital somewhat match. I hope that Kep1er's comeback makes those numbers at least a bit more even. DAYEON IS A QUEEN. I don't make the rules. She's such an ace. She does NOT deserve hate (nor do any of the other girls, thank you very little. stop it.) and she's a vital member of Kep1er. Kep1ians, I'm BEGGING you to find a way to coexist civilly otherwise this will ultimately crush the group's potential. We all have favorite members, we all have members we don't really vibe with, and that's okay. Also, it needs to be said that some members won't get as many lines as the others (Lightsum comes to mind with this one). That is on the COMPANY and not anyone else's fault, so direct your anger properly. We do not need to attack each other over who our bias is or who we don't necessarily like. For the love of all that is holy, please calm down already. P.S. Lightsum is having a comeback on May 24th at 6:00pm KST. Please support them and give their music a listen. Usually big3 and Hybe have target audience in SK because we know they’ll listen to them no matter what and even if they have weak debut. Smaller companies can’t afford it, so groups like Dreamcatcher, Everglow and Ateez etc have target audience internationally, they chart very well in other countries and have huge fan bases

Regarding the point with digital and physical sales i'd say 'yes' ... and 'no' at the same time. Yes - physical sales are not the sole factor deciding group popularity. But no - Korean GP is also not the one. You talked about 4th gen bgroups which are the best example of being very popular and successful groups without having Korean GP interest. They simply have huge international fanbases (and many times not only just fans but other ppl too - they may not follow them but still listem to their songs). Plus Korean GP focus more on gband - that's why gbands generally have better digitals than bbands (it's not the rule ofc but it's clearly seen which groups GP favors with even not very big gbands having better digitals than some big names within bbands). Even today i saw an article about K-netz being shocked about Ateez popularity during their world tour. They're not that big in Korea (and definitely not that popular within GP so they usually have weak digitals) but they still held a successful world tour at really big venues. And yes - this means they're successful.

I somewhat agree with the stage precense one and somewhat not. While i agree that stage precense is very subjective, it is for sure also a talent in itself and is more complex. It is absolutely not as subjective as beauty since it is something multiple idols directly train to get better at. San from ateez is for example a example of someone who consistantly trains to get better precense. It is a skillset and can be somewhat measured (ofc just because something can be measured does not mean it will be true to everyone). It is more subjective than vocal rap and dance, but even vocal rap and dance is subjective but can still be measured. I am not the greatest at explaining stuff, but if you want to look more into it i would recommend EverglowUps videos on it. She explains it pretty well.

Same here. Vocals is what attracts me to certain groups. I know he's not kpop but I fell in love with the amazing voice of Dimash, while watching his videos I noticed some kpop videos and thought maybe KZbin recommended for some reason. First video I ever clicked on was EXO 'Universe' it was one of those color coded or whatever you call them videos. I fell in love with the vocals. Yes, they have great visuals but to me, it's the vocals. Same thing with Mamamoo vocals, vocals, vocals. Friends have tried to make me stan groups they love, telling me they sing good,, they a cute, they are popular but, for me, the vocals just don't do it.. Sales are a better indicator of popularity though compared to YT views. So many think their favs are getting popular when in reality their company is using heavy ads. Yes, groups can have high physical sales and still be pretty unknown to the general public, but they are still successful. International popularity is keeping a lot of groups around.

I agree with your opinion about physical sales, I also think that having a primarily international fan base is not a bad thing I mean bts had a world tour in 2014 in sold out arenas worldwide and their music was charting internationally but they were practically unknown in South Korea, what I'm saying is a strong international Fandom is important to keep the group going and for them to keep doing activities and build their name, but a Korean fan base is also important because at the end of the day these are Korean groups they sing and perform in Korean so I would think that they would want to chart and have concerts in their own country, and be nominated and win prestigious Korean awards and that all happens with a stable Korean Fandom not even the GP but the fans are really important to the longevity of any group, and we can all admit that some international fans are really fickle, so again the k-fans are key

Not just physical sales but even other kind of achievements should not be considered as ultimate measure of success ..... Brand rankings, concert sales, YT views, esp. digitals , everything can be manipulated or bought by the company......and general public listening their faves on korean apps are also huge no. of fans streaming night and day just like KZbin..... These parameters should be used as a relief that their fave's bills are payed unlike some really unlucky flop artists, but kpopies use it to downgrade other groups
