Great vid and happy to see the battery getting better over time. That's been my case as well. One issue I've had and others are if you check the pixel subreddit: High Mobile Network Standby using up the battery. I've tried a few "tricks" but they have not worked. I don't know if its related but my phone will wake itself up to the always on display (AOD) if there's any movement near it. I feel this causes it to not go into a deep sleep and will infrequently connect to a network, thus causing a high usage. I haven't heard any articles talking about it but right now there is a network loss bug so I don't know if that will overshadow it.
@runthejoules
@runthejoules 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Frank! It's been 3 weeks since we recorded this video, and I'm now ending each day with over 40% battery life on average (I was at 25% during filming), part of it could be the December 13 update as well as the adaptive battery. Just curious regarding the mobile network standby time, how is the reception in your area, especially the 5G? Have you noticed any changes if you turn off 5G? I don't believe this issue was on the list of the December 13 update.
@frankfrank1364
@frankfrank1364 3 жыл бұрын
@@runthejoules Even though I live in nyc, I switched over to LTE because I was getting the same results with 5g and because I have an unlocked 6pro from google, I was not getting "true" 5g. That doesn't bother me though. I do want to say; I ran an ADB command on Sun afternoon and my mobile standby bug has dissapeared. Usage was 25% or higher since getting the phone late Oct and now I'm getting 17% and it seems to be dropping every few hours. I haven't gotten the update (maybe because of the issues and google is now withholding it from the larger public).
@runthejoules
@runthejoules 3 жыл бұрын
Great to hear the standby bug is gone for you. The network loss issue has been an issue in Europe and Google is working on an update. You're right perhaps they've pulled back on the update before more users are affected. Thanks for the frank discussion Frank!

Face and iris recognition needs an extra sensor that basically shoots a laser grid over your face that you camera then picks up and does the recognition. If that helps cut down on the cost, I am OK with that.

I loved my pixel 6 pro. Best software experience on any phone right now. Some of the best features, great build. Best camera on any phone. But I just couldn't get used to that curve. I've used other curved screens but this one, I'm not sure why but I couldn't take the it. Had to go back to my s21 ultra which isn't as good but I prefer the shape. If Google release a pro 7 with flat screen I'll have no problem going back. I really miss that software experience. As good as the ultra is, the pixel is I'm a different league . And the cameras

@@ThatDruidDude for me I found the sides of the phone steeper than my s21 ultra or note 10. Now this isn't a go at the pixel as it's arguably the best phone out right now. But I just couldn't get used to it. Others may love it and think I'm mad. So this isn't anything to do with the pixel being bad or anything. It just didn't do it for esthetically

Hi from the UK 🇬🇧🙂 1. Yes the adaptive brightness is a pain I'm going to turn mine off in a minute until they fix it. 2. The fingerprint scanner doesn't work with a glass screen protector on it, but I then used a slide and re set fingerprints after I fitted the slide, and did fingerprints more than once like you, and it works fine now. 3. My biggest gripe is, the dam clock on the lock screens always on display. The world clock uses the 0 before all time even when it's PM, for example, 5:57pm displays as 05:57pm, and my smart watch mirrors the time on my phone so the digital clock cones up the same, so annoying! I hope they fix this! 4. The camera is the best phone camera I've ever had, I thought the 4XL was good but this outshines it by far. I upgraded to the Pixel 6 Pro from iPhone 12 Pro Max, no comparison regarding the camera, the Pixel wins hands down, and I realise now how boring my iPhone was! 5. Packed with features, useful things that work, spam notification is great. I'm very happy apart from that dam 0! 😀
@runthejoules
@runthejoules 3 жыл бұрын
Hi from Canada! Thank you Lynn for your review! I do hope Google will provide more customization on the always on display's clock. It would be great if you could change the 0, but I would also love to be able to customize backgrounds, clock face, colors etc. Have you tried one of Google's recommended screen protectors? I hope they add to that list with so many new vendors selling Pixel 6 screen protectors. -Degju

@@runthejoules not tried a Google screen protector no, but another make yes, a slide, it was easy to put on can't see it and the fingerprint works every time now, I did re set the fingerprints twice each after fitting the slide, much better than glass ones in my opinion. 👍🏻🇬🇧

Hii from Canada too brother.. I've used iphone xs max before.. I've used OnePlus 6t McLaren edition, samsung s21 too.. I've found that androids started lagging a bit, taking few hiccups time to time more frequently but that was not an issue with iphone... It worked as day 1 after more than 1.5 years.. performance was very very stable unlikely android phones .. currently I'm on s21 and I'm planning to change.. I'm thinking of iphone 13 pro max or pixel 6 pro.. but my main catch is performance and battery .. here, iPhone wins but the pixel screen and smoothness always makes me choose it and makes it hard.. in your opinion, how is the performance of pixel? Does it take any hiccups or lags anytime? Please do reply.. I don't want to waste my money on a wrong choice.. thanks in advance ❤️

@runthejoules
@runthejoules 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Deividas! You're correct the Pixel 6 does have two light sensors at the front and back, however it needs some optimizing as it must be one of the factors on why the brightness adjustment doesn't work well. In this specific example in the video, the light behind me is actually quite dim and the brightness should have adjusted even slightly when I turned the main light off. But I have found that the December 13 update has improved the adaptive brightness. The sudden changes that were previously occurring have stopped and now the adjustment is a bit more gradual and more accurate. It's still not perfect, but much improved! -Degju

This experience is going to vary for users in varying locations and different cell providers. In discussions in Reddit, a user found that joining the Beta program in Google's carrier services fixed the issue. Google is aware of the issue, hopefully an update is coming soon regarding this problem.

You can change the side detection range on the Pixel so you don't have accidental touches. Settings - System - Gestures - System navigation - Tap the Gesture Navigation Gear Icon - Adjust the back Sensitivity left and right sliders. Google did not "change" the location of the volume rocker. All Pixels since the original Pixel have had the volume rocker and power button on the same side. Google did this to prevent accidental pressing of any buttons when viewing videos in landscape mode and setting your phone down on a table. This is why there is absolutely nothing on the left side of Pixel phones. As always, you don't have to swipe down twice to access the brightness slider. You can swipe down once but use two fingers. This will pull the notification shade all the way down. This has not changed since Android 4.0 Adaptive brightness issue has been fixed in the December 2021 update which should roll out to P6 and 6 Pro sometime this week. The rest of your video is awesome!

Just an update on this Ken. I finally received the Rhinoshield (on the Google recommended list) and the unlocking hasn't been good. I've ordered a different screen protector and we'll see if I have better luck. It started to work better when I used all 5 fingerprint options on my one thumb. But this isn't ideal obviously. -Degju

Hi Abhi thanks for the comment. So far no hiccups or lagging on the Pixel 6 Pro after 5+ months of usage. So no performance issues at all and the battery has been great. Although in different regions there have been issues with 5G draining some pixels much faster and issues with bugs. I've personally been very happy with the Pixel 6 Pro performance and battery. I'm currently testing the S22 Ultra (Snapdragon) for a review, and so far the Pixel 6 Pro has had better battery. And both have had no issues with lagging or performance. Again this is personal experience for both phones. -Degju

Excellent video and review. Concur with all aspects of your experience thus far apart from the battery to a degree. The battery life has improved but not to the extent yours has. Not sure if it's a carrier issue but I can lose 7% overnight in standby and 15 minutes on Twitter can usually take care of 5%. My old P30Pro would still be on 100% after 20 minutes of the same activity and would regularly return 9 hours SOT on a heavy day. The 6Pro has some way to go in that respect. Outside of that it is a fantastic piece of kit. The regular 6 which I also have performs brilliantly. With average use I get two days battery and around 6hr to 7hrs of screen time. Keep up the good work 🙂

Thanks for the comment Gamebreaker. Just an update since the filming of the video (which was 3 weeks ago), I'm now ending every day with about 40% battery life. I've also noticed an improvement since the Dec 13 update. I'm just curious if you received the Dec 13 update. There were carrier issues after Dec 13 in some European countries and that can affect battery life as well. There have also been app drainage issues that I believe I experienced in early usage but those have been fixed with app updates. The battery life has been a curious topic since users are getting vastly different results. Part of the issue can be coverage of 5G in your area. In locations with weaker 5G the weaker modem on the P6 seem to cause drainage issues as well. Since we're still in relatively early days, I hope Google can continue to improve the phone with updates (although Dec 13 update was a step back in some regions). Appreciate your comment! -Degju

@2:00 You must have never used a Pixel phone before because the volume rocker has always been on the right underneath the power button since the first Pixel And the Android 12 way of taking screenshots is different. Also if you hold the phone on your left hand, you'll likely have 4 fingers on the right side of the phone where ALL the buttons are, now just place 1 on the power button and another on the lower volume button and squeze. The way he shows taking a screenshot is not likely how most people would actually hold a phone.

Generally a great phone , once the glitches are ironed out . I find the screen on my pixel 6 a big disappointment - poor brightness nits . One would expect at least 600-800 nits manual brightness and over a thousand nits in auto mode . I had a look at an iPhone 13 and experienced screen envy 😁 The Camera under exposes photos and the slider bar is unreliable and sometimes doesn't even work , my pixel 3a had much better DR and more reliable exposure of a scene . I find the camera an embarrassment considering it's supposed to be an upgrade on previous pixels . Must point out white balance is much improved. I am quite impressed with its video quality . Other aspects of the phone are just fine, screen is buttery smooth . Following improvements for pixel 7 - brighter screen, better cameras , smaller form factor.

Adaptive brightness. I've never used it on any phone I've ever owned. So for me, that's neither here nor there. Fingerprint scanner. Scanned my thumb once and haven't had any problems with it. About the only app I've had a problem with, is Facebook not loading completely so it's frozen. Just have to shut it off completely and restart the app. I came to the Pixel 6 Pro from an LG Velvet. After that experience, I'm not going to nitpick this phone. I came to it late so I think most of the bugs have been worked out. Battery life has been outstanding. Even the imported LG TV remote control works just like it did on the LG phone. Heaven forbid a less than half second swipe would mar my day. I really got to quit watching phone reviewer videos
@runthejoules
@runthejoules 2 жыл бұрын
Google's fixed a lot of issues that were present early on, which is expected with a brand new chip and new OS. Adaptive brightness has improved quite a bit since the updates, not perfect but not really a major issue anymore. I've never had an issue with the fingerprint scanner, which is lucky as it's been a problem for many users. The early bugs have been fixed the most part and again I've been lucky as I haven't experienced any call drops or connection issues that came with one of the early updates. Battery has been great for me as well and I was getting a full day on 5-6 hours screen on time. I should have mentioned that using two fingers to swipe down does bring the full menu down. Overall, it's been a great phone for me especially after the updates. I've recently been using the S22 Ultra and I miss many of the pixel 6 Pro's features.

How are you doing a "long-term review" of a device you've only been using for a month? Let's be honest, if I'm looking for a long-term review of something, I want to know how it's going to hold up over the length of my contract, not just the first month. I want to know if it's going to start slowing down after a year of use. I want to know if the battery is going to stop holding a charge after a year of use. This isn't a long-term review. This is a follow-up, which is fine, but don't call it a long-term review.

So far I'm not happy with this 6 pro. It's different which is cool with me, just wasn't ready for it lol. The battery life is GARBAGE. Mine takes forever to charge and I mean 6+ hours. Thanks for the comment! It seems like your phone might have some issues and might be worth using the warranty. The Pixel 6 Pro has an adaptive charging mode that is enabled by default. This means the phone won't charge at max speed but is better for battery health. If you disable this, it will charge faster. It 6+ hours is too long even if you don't disable it. The night shots have been impressive in my usage, but I completely agree on the adaptive brightness issues. They did improve on these after updates but the adaptive brightness is still not amazing. -Degju
