Should have been the most logical and surprising reason why dick grayson quit as robin in the animated series
@BadWolf739
@BadWolf739 6 жыл бұрын
Actually that was the reason Dick quit being Robin in the cartoon. At least in the comics that continued the DCAU. In the Batman Beyond 2.0 comics that continued the cartoon there was an story which introduced Nightwing to that era with a few flashbacks in which Barbara and Bruce slept together behind Dick's back and she got pregnant, the timing of which meant Nightwing couldn't be the father (followed by a miscarriage). The story gets out and Dick leaves Gotham because of it. And when the story comes out in Neo Gotham it prompts Terry to ditch Bruce for Dick as a mentor figure as he believes Bruce is ultimately motivated by self interest. It was really messed up but at least the comic had the decency to treat the situation as really messed up rather than the love letter to Batman/Batgirl that the guy in charge of Killing Joke pretty much confessed that intro was.

Luke think a little before making a fool out of yourself.Barbara Gordon has always been a lot younger than Batman she is at most 26 years old since Batman is on his mid 40s and Barbara is supposed to be around 20 years younger than him and in the Arkhamverse Tim Drake becomes Robin when he was 17 years old and he is only about 5-6 years younger than Barbara so not really all that creepy.

Brian Rodriguez well in arkham origins Barbara was about 15 years old and in arkham knight it says that origins is about 20 years before asylum making Barbara about 37 because knight is 2 years after asylum and in the arkham comics it says that Tim started out a little while before asylum which makes Tom in his twenties

They should have animated "The Man Who Laughs". Showing the very first meeting between Batman and Joker who have made a better introduction for The Killing Joke. Plus "The Man Who Laughs" is a short comic, it probably would have taken the exact run time as Batgirl's story. And would have been more effective in telling a complete Batman and Joker story or at the very least a complete Joker story.

If filmmakers just intertwined the first 40 minutes for the rest of the movie, like the Paris Franz is working for the Joker, instead of just the first act, I would buy it.
@itubemember
@itubemember 8 жыл бұрын
They needed to hint at the joker breaking out earlier, so he has time to set up the carnival. Same basic concept of intertwining the stories, but with a different focus. I hadn't read the killing joke before seeing this, but watching the first act definitely sent up some 'filler flags'.

The original The Killing Joke had no such subplot. Bruce is like a second father to Barb in the Animated Series and everything else I know of. At most, in some continuities she has a short lived juvenile crush on Bruce. This sort of thing just violates character relationships that have stood for more than two decades at this point and it's disgusting.

Didn't anyone learn from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood? If its a comic/manga adaptation, just make the pictures move with sound. Hell I would've been happy with Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy just reading the comic out loud without any animation. C'mon DC, you had this one thing over Marvel, and now you've pissed that away as well. If I wasn't so optimistic I'd say you hired on those Sega people who thought giving Shadow guns would make Sonic 'edgier'.

Let's be real for a second: there's no goddamn way they ever would have been able to live up to the original comic. The original comic is a one-of-a-kind artistic masterpiece that's presented in a style that can only be found in graphic novels. By animating it, a lot of the subtle intricacies are inevitably lost. Even without the extra stuff they added it wouldn't have worked. It would have taken millions of more dollars and talent matching that of the original artists to even come close. Frankly I don't think they should have even tried it

FMAB translates very well to screenplay though. You always have to consider how the source material translates to screenplay. Even though it's not a manga, episode 0 of Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014) is an example of being too faithful to the source material to the point of having no regard for pacing. They somehow came up with an entire slew of new problems for this adaptation but just making a 1:1 word for word adaptation isn't a good idea in practice, unless the source material naturally translates well. Even FMAB had liberties taken to work better in animated format.

I wanted to like this movie. I really, REALLY wanted to. I tried to justify the bad parts so hard. And it's not like the great parts aren't great. It just could have been so much better. The killing joke isn't about the story, the story is good but it's about the joker and his relationship with batman, and also in there batman is more human than ever and at the same time more stranged from reality than ever. If quality was measured only in terms of "what story am I watching" we wouldn't have a hundred remakes of the classics.

Don't get me wrong, I love Jessica Jones, and I don't care about the portrayal of white men. I'm just saying if they did that, and didn't point it out they'd have a ton of crying meninists pointing out the hypocrisy. If they do point it out, they'll have a ton of crying feminists talking about every negative portrayal of a minority in every other film ever. story was meh(mostly the filter parts and the bad implantation of the elements from the comic) but animation was horrible. There were very limited particle effects, rain and a lot of such stuff looked like it was made by some kid on his home computer. horrible filter on jokers flashbacks to the past was painful to watch. a lot of the story depends on the atmosphere and here they did not even bothered with key elements like the police sirens at the end of the comic. some parts were so stilted that even I noticed and I usually don't.

The Killing Joke is extremely overrated. It has the joker trying to be understood and make a statement about his life. this is not what the joker does. The Joker is the ultimate psychotic. The point of his life is to cause as much suffering and anguish as possible, and laugh at it. The less sense it makes, the more random the suffering, the funnier it is to him. Trying to reach out and be understood is something Poison Ivy, or Two Face would do because they are still, in some way, trying to cling to sanity.

That's just the new version of the joker. The Original joker was closer to a Jack Nicholson joker - slightly insane but more of a cruel master criminal. In the silver age, comics were self-censored before the government shot them down, so Joker became just a jokester. When darker theme re-appeared in the modern ear (1970's), that is when insane joker came into being.

Joker is super sane. He knows he's a character and that he is in a comic book. He knows that he plays the villain which is why he acts the way he does. He thinks it's hilarious that everyone thinks their lives are real which is why killing is okay for him. He knows nothing is real. Life is not real (comic sense). That is the joke for him

+Andoc Yeah but Deadpool's okay with killing and he's like an anti-hero. Joker is more secretive. He acts insane and all crazy so that no one would see the true mastermind lurking underneath his facade. And when Martian Manhunter made him temporarily sane, he actually felt GUILT over the lives he killed.

Even "V for Vendetta," which was a decent movie, isn't didn't really carry the theme and message of the comic. Ok, there is exactly one. The Justice League animated TV show adaptation of "For the Man who has Everything" was pretty much perfect.

i dont get why any time something dc comes out, everyone has to bash it for every negative thing there is, and everyone just sees a review online and their mind is already made up. it's ridiculous. 1. the batgirl storyline was made so that we would know the character more, and to give batman more of a drive. 2. who care about the batsex? when barbara and bruce told terry about their past nobody gave a damn in batman beyond, but now we're in a time and age where everything is complained about. 3. the animation was meant to reflect the comic book, which it did 4. the voice acting was perfect like always. No matter what i say haters are gonna hate the movie for whatever reason, but at the end of the day, it was a great film

For instance, I saw it at the cinema and didn't notice or care about the animation or voice acting, but found the experience disappointing none the less, for reason that have been stated here and lots of places. If those things didn't bother you then I'm glad you enjoyed it, but don't act like everyone else is a hater and wrong for disliking something you enjoy.

Ehhhh, it's not too open in the comic. Thematically and in conjunction with the story the Joker tells at the end plus the imagery on the final page, it's an inescapable conclusion that Batman kills him. Also it's, like, the title of the story. It's a pun. The ending didn't translate to film/animation very well though.

The comics you speak of are part of the Bruce Timm animated universe continuity not any mainstream comic continuity. The only time we see a Babs and Bruce pairing is when Bruce Timm is involved (he was involved in this movie too). For all the great stuff Timm and Dini has given us in the animated series and the DC animated universe, that is one of the few things that most people were against. It's just a weird pairing that Bruce Timm seems to ship.

You'd be wrong to think people didn't complain or dislike it back then. It's just that because this is current and people talk about it online more than they did back then. Also I fail to see why it is stupid to complain about. It is wrong on many levels. From Batman's side he's sleeping with his adopted son's ex, his best friend's daughter, and someone he was mentoring as a crime fighter. So Batman's betraying his adopted son and best friend, as well as basically being a teacher who sleeps with his students. Batgirl on the other hand comes off as a woman with an Electra complex, to her Batman's an older man who is best friends with her father who also shares some similarities with her father. No matter how you slice it Batman's an older mentor figure in her life. Not to mention she's sleeping with the adopted father of her ex. She doesn't think that this might cause a riff between their bond?

+Ryuzaki Raiga I extremely disagree. Nowhere near mediocre. It's smart, well directed, great dialogue straight from the book, well voice-acted, fluid animation and the story just translates phenomenally into film. Even though, critics have been giving DC hell, they gave 'TDK Returns' an 100% on RT. Not trying to use critics as justification, but that's an impressive feat. Did you watch the second part to the film, or did you just skip out on it? Because the first part isn't exactly the whole thing, the second part follows through with the story and puts it into an epic end. And imo, Bad Blood is trash.

I was legitimately surprised by how underwhelmed I was by this movie, and even by the performances. I wonder if Kevin Conroy has reached a point where he's just sick of playing Batman. He's been doing it for more than two decades. He phoned it in. We've all heard umpteen times where he nailed it, so we know what it sounds like when his heart isn't in it. Maybe he's just doing it for a paycheck now. Would explain why his voice pops up in lesser Batman projects you've never heard of.

Voice acting...Mark Hamill does a great job in this as does Kevin Conroy, Ray Wise wasn't amazing but passable. Directing - same with animation, the cinematography was good, the film had a flow to it and it hit every beat that it needed to. Characters - is the opening Batgirl portion amazing? No, but with the rest you are dealing with Alan Moore material...you cannot go wrong there. And finally...the singing....to which I ask..have you actually read the Killing Joke? Joker does actually sing in there, he does a rhyming song, all DC did was put music to it. I really liked this version of the Killing Joke, the keyword there being VERSION, if you don't like it...make your own. Nobody will stop you from doing so

+Michael Hall for me this comic is a joker comic not a batgirl getting paralyzed one. I really wish the new material for the movie was about him. It really seemed the first 40 min were trying to get the audience to feel more for batgirl and help people understand why batman would be so upset when she got paralyzed by throwing in a very unnecessary romantic angle. What I think would of made it 100% perfect was to take the flashbacks put them at the beginning and flesh them out and have more of a detailed telling of the origin side. Make it the movie joker fans have been wanting.

Bruce X Barbara is purely from Bruce Timm and the Batman: TAS universe. It never shows up anywhere else and for good reason: it is creepy and gross to date/sleep with a woman who is 1)almost a decade younger than you 2) you've known since she was a child 3) are best friends with her father 4) you mentor, and 5) who has dated your adopted son.It is basically Bruce Timm self-insert fanfic.

Francisco Arruti What qualifies as good or bad depends on your PERSONAL tastes and mood and life experiences. Therefore it is subjective when it comes to entertainment. The only thing you can objectively rate a movie is the structure and technicality of the film which doesn't have any effect on most ordinary filmgoers.

Beegl85 depends how long you've been watching batman if it recent then you'll probably think it okay but of you been watching batman for like 10 plus years then you know Batman and Batgirl shouldn't have sex since in other tv shows and movies she sees him like a mentor and a 2nd father

@UTYuetu
@UTYuetu 6 жыл бұрын
If you skip the first 40 minutes then the film is an okay adaptation of the killing joke (they wasted alot of the budget on the prologue rather than enhancing the adaptation part of the comic) also there's a fade to black prior to the killing joke adaptation that then tells the story with no connection to the prologue. Leaving you with a TV special batman tas adaptation of the killing joke worth watching. But the prologue burn it burn it with fire!

Good choice. It's worth it. The comic is one of the best i've ever read. And the movie isnt that bad. I really liked it. It just feels super stretched in the beginning due to this tagged on Batgirl story. I mean the story was kind of ok-ish. But its always boring if the main villain shows up after like 30 min into a 71 min movie.

Thar's the weak sauce society we live in though, everyone loves the Joker, as long as he is kind to Harley, and does not hurt or victimize women or the innocent. What these retards forget is that the Joker is an unrestrained psychopath and part of what has made so endearing and unforgettable is his violence, and mania. The SJW's would prefer Joker to just give out kisses and hugs instead of being who he really is....
@ErikOlsonAZ
@ErikOlsonAZ 8 жыл бұрын
I tried to give this one the benefit of the doubt, but if you're going to have a tacked on plot for a prologue to the thing that people want to see, make it somewhat relevant to what comes afterward. The Killing Joke has a theme of madness and "one bad day" that is present through the whole thing. Come to think of it, Barbara's one bad day made her lose it a bit. Subtle foreshadowing of the ideas to be explained later on. And that's something that can be communicated without 40 minutes of an unrelated plotline while waiting for the movie to start.
