I purchased a new portable air conditioner for my home in anticipation that it will be my all in 1 and keep most of my unit cool during the summer.
I purchased this air conditioner from Best Buy for $579 on sale from $699
and it is supposed to cool spaces up to 700sqft. with 14,000 btu's and 3 fan speeds and 3 cycles.
1 cycle cooling, fan, and de-humidification features along with a timer, remote control and full tank warning features this unit was rated one of the best for it's size and one of the biggest portable units available.
This is the unboxing and setup video and I am going to follow it with a much shorter review in the next month or so once the temps here climb into the 80's in the New England summer humidity kicks in.
I hope you enjoy and follow along !

You cannot compare the gross BTU outputs of portable AC units to what window units are rated at. The Honeywell 14K BTU is rated at a DOE number of 8,500 BTUs. That is the number you need to go by. I have one in my master bedroom and it keeps it, my WIC and bathroom nice and cold. Also you have close to two 90 degree bends in the exhaust hose, need to try and keep that thing as straight as possible. When trying to cool off an area that has already become heat soaked it does take time as all the contents of the room have become hot too, not just the air.

A 14,000 BTU portable doesn't get much bigger than that before you have to go to a 230v electrical outlet. My 14,000 BTU 110v is pulling 14amps. I have mine plugged into a 20amp 110v dedicated outlet. My garage is 540sqft and it is always 100 degrees in the garage in the summer. With the portable A/C on it takes 3 house just to cool down 5 degrees. I may have to up grade to a split unit with 24,000BTU's to be satisfied. There's a lag in temperature in the garage after the outside temp is 110 degrees all afternoon and all evening. In the morning at 5:00am, it may be 88 degrees outside but 92 degrees in the garage. I ran the A/C for 3 hours and the temp dropped only 5 degrees. I may need the A/C unit on the Empire State Building to cool down my garage : )

Did you leave your screen in?? And how did you handle the draining?? Ahhhh, so you DON'T have to have the humidifier ON if you don't wish, just turn it off while cooling? Is that louver adjustable high to low? Does is oscillate? How powerful is the fan - CFM?? - Yes, all the basic questions we need to know! :)

Hi Mark , I did leave the screen in and it didn’t affect it at all. One thing I will say is to get the best performance out of it I would place the unit directly in front of the hose and at like a 45 degree angle so he’ll with the exhaust and no restrictions. I was not happy with this unit for the price so I have returned it and bought something else. For 14,000 btu it is comparable to a 5-6500 btu window unit . I was not impressed with it , maybe I got a bad unit , not sure but I wasn’t gonna take many trips up and down from my 3rd floor apartment with 80+lb air conditioners to try them all out ... I gave up and went back with a more efficient window unit .... and the unit barely accumulated any water as is evaporated it mostly ....stay tuned for my next video !

@@kenni411 Thanks for the reply! I selected a portable unit because I am forced to based on my crank side open windows. A standard window air conditioner won’t work for me. I purchased mine at Home Depot because they have a 180 day no-hassle return policy. I just may return this, don’t know yet - only had it running for ONE week. To be fair, the unit is rated properly, more effectively 8K BTU, and it IS COLD! But NO portable air conditioner matches BTU to BTU with a window air conditioner. That is well known. 14,000 BTUs ASHRAE / 8,000 BTUs DOE For others who may wish to know: This unit seems to have 2 major design flaws: [they may or may not matter to me] 1. There doesn’t appear to have a way to just run this ALWAYS regardless of the temperature. SO, the machine itself ALWAYS gets to decide when it WON’T run. 2. The thermometer is at least 6-8 degrees COLD, because it records the temp from the unit. Where this MAY matter if you actually wish to run this unit to 61 degrees [which it’s supposed to do!]. It won’t. You’d be lucky to get the room temperature down to 70. In a unit this expensive, they should have placed the thermometer in the remote and then made that clear in the instructions.

@@kenni411 You returned it, eh? Do you know what that store is going to do? Clean it up real nice, repackage it, and sell it to some poor person who thinks they're getting a *brand new* aircon! They didn't know you were throwing it up the stairs of your house and then testing it for a while first ... for shame on any store that allows opened returns.

@@randomfullywonderful actually I didn’t thrown it up the stairs I took it up very carefully and it wasn’t just to test it as I wanted it permanently. After using it I was not impressed so like any o her product anyone would buy that does not live up to expectations I returned it. The store will either send it back or possibly sell it as a open box reduced price item. I can’t justify spending $500 on something that does not work for the intended purpose. Complete waste of money, I may have got a bad apple but I didn’t want to have to deal with it again.

@@randomfullywonderful You mean it's wrong for the store to sell a returned product as new. That is not the fault of a customer who is not satisfied with a product.
