Thanks for showing us what’s in at your local Lowes, it’s always fun seeing what will be in store for the upcoming growing season! I planted some hardy Kiwi vines several years ago and they are yummy! They’re about the size of a grape with smooth skin. I had to wait about six or seven years to finally get fruit so you DO have to be patient and perhaps only plant some if you know you’re staying put for a long time. They’re easy to grow but can be rambunctious, I have to give mine a pretty severe pruning in late winter and occasionally prune some rogue vines that are in the way during the growing months but I’ve never noticed any disease problems or pests eating the fruit 🥝

How fun!! I was intrigued by the hardy kiwi vines. Thanks for sharing your experience Angela. Yes, it definitely takes time from bare root, but its an affordable way to start plants if you have time and patience.

I've been jotting notes down left and right. I am in the same zone as you (I live in PA) so it's even more helpful to see/hear what you look for, when you do things, etc. I've enjoyed watching you and George work on projects and have already placed my order for gomphrena seeds (for me and to share with others). Thank you so much for sharing your love of gardening and everything you've picked up along the way. The only thing I don't like is that your content is addictive and I find myself hours later saying I NEED to stop for the day!! Thanks again! 💞🌺🌻🌼

We have a few hardy kiwi plants, and last year they produced fruit! The fruit is the size of a grape, and fully edible like a grape (skin and all). It tastes just like the big 🥝! We were amazed! 🌱 We’re 🇨🇦 zone 4a, and the vines live through the winter with some dying back - but they grow vigorously!

Its worth a try! My best guess is that if planted in a south facing protected spot (not much wind), it could likely be outside year round in a zone 6. I'm going to add a chicago hardy to my list and look for a larger plant this year to try in my garden. 🌱

Thanks for this Lowes tour, Steph. Love the Ann Magnolia. At 8-10 feet, I'm wondering if it is more of a shrub form than a tree. The Asiatic lilies are a great deal. I'm interested in a burgundy color. Hope I come across those this season. Also, the Liatris is a plant I have always admired but have never grown. I think I will pick up a bag. Ten dollars for 40 bulbs is an ideal price!
@HookedandRooted8 ай бұрын
Hi Jolie! I agree with you, its is more of a shrub. I actually grow an Ann Magnolia in my garden, and it has a shrub shape. There are some tree varieties that have been trained that way, but most of them come in shrub form from what I see. I hope you find lilies and liatris to try near you. Thanks for watching, and have a great weekend! 🥰🌱

I really enjoyed this video, thank you for all the great information you give about each plant and helpful tips. I grew both of the dahlias you are getting this past year in a barrel type planter and they were gorgeous. I bought mine way too early, wasn’t warm enough to plant so I put them in a paper bag the way they came in a little box with peat moss and put them in my fridge bottom shelf. When I was ready to plant them I took them out and inspected them, then I always soak mine in a bucket of water for 15 minutes, it really helps to rehydrate them and plant them up. They were in my fridge for 3 months and they all came up and grew beautifully. You will be very happy with them. 🌺🌼🫶

Glad to watch a fellow New Englander in your garden! It depends on where you live when to plant potatoes. If the foliage comes up too soon it can get frosted. I don’t plant mine until a month before my last frost. If they do come up and you have chance of frost you can cover with straw.

Prairifire crabapples most definitely are a fruiting tree! It is not edible fruit for humans necessarily, but birds love the fruit. It is persistent fruit so the crabapples will cling to the branches throughout winter and won’t be messy. There are only a few crabapples that don’t produce fruit.
@HookedandRooted8 ай бұрын
That is correct, and while I know this, as I was reviewing fruit trees for human consumption apples/pears/peaches, and was making the comparison that this wasn't an apple tree in that sense. But absolutely a great source of food for our bird friends 🐦

I know cost is always a big issue for all of us gardeners, but I wish you (& all the others too) would shop at local garden centers rather than the big box stores. Local garden centers are usually locally owned & profit stays in our own communities. Big box stores are not local & profit goes far away from home. Thanks.

Hi Steph! Thank you for the info .How many flowers does one tuber grow ? Another question . Everyone talks about deer and rabbits killing their bulbs but my problem is voles ! They kill everything
@HookedandRooted8 ай бұрын
Hi Christine! If your talking about the dahlias, one tuber grows a plant, and from that plant you will get multiple stems with blooms. Voles are difficult. While I don't have experience with them personally, I have heard many gardeners struggle with them. I hope someone can chime in and help with some advise on how you can remedy that in your garden.

Like your review and sale info. However, I think you mixed up the flowering pear info. The Cleveland pear is known for splitting, the Bradford pear was developed as alternative. At least that is what I have experienced and been told by nurseries.

Bradford pear is on the invasive list for most of the US. It also is a weak tree that splits easily in storms.

I'm planning on gardening for the first time this spring. My question is why plants are already for sale. We can't plant them until May, right? Is there any advantage to buying the plants now? Thanks!
@HookedandRooted8 ай бұрын
Hi there, Correct. Most of these can't be planted out until all chance of frost has passed in your gardening zone. You can find your gardening zone here: planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/ and you can also determine your last frost date here: www.almanac.com/gardening/frostdates The only advantage to purchasing these bulbs now, is selection availability. Hope this helps. Happy gardening!! 🌱

Hello! I actually tell you what zone I'm in as I naturally go about discussing the plants. I do these very organically based on my experience with the plants. If you watch the video you will catch me mentioning my growing zone a few times. If you skip around, you'll miss it. I also reference the plants hardiness zone which helps tell you if they can be grown in your zone. A simple google search can help locate your growing zone.
