*February 2022 update: Due to a false copyright claim, I had to replace the song used in the bunny music video section. Although I purchased a license for the music (and have proof from Artlist), The Orchard Music is challenging this, claiming that Rex Banner's "Anthem of a Quirky Hipster" is instead owned by their comedian Michael Palascak. If I pursue an appeal, I risk a copyright strike on my channel and removal of the video. Therefore, there is now lame no copyright music from the KZbin audio library at the end of this video. I apologize for the diminished viewer experience, but I wanted to share what ridiculous battles KZbin content creators face, despite paying hundreds of dollars per year for legit licensed music.

Michael Palascak. Who? guess this is how he makes his money by suing people , because he made a bad music sale! what a jerk. No wonder no ones heard of you Michael! I would of turned around and sued the people I paid the song for because maybe they are not legit at least have them reimburse you and pay for attorney fees....this is soooooooooo wrong in sooooooo many ways. I just subscribed on to your channel and your wonderful! I just adopted , about a month a go , 4 sweet ( so intelligent ) rabbits from our local shelter here in Vegas and yes , they now own half my office , under a ceiling fan with air conditioner because , no way , no how I would have a bunny outside in the heat we get but I have plans for a secure bunny area for fall, winter and spring where they can enjoy some out door time and meanwhile , I can , extremely early or late in the evening put them out in a small pin but we have not gotten that point yet. This will only happen on evenings or morning where there is a cool breeze , no oven heat, I realize that just because the sun is not out does not mean they will not get heated...soon for at least two months , they will just enjoy me bringing them greens from the great outdoors! lol. thank you for all you teach and do for the bun community!

I hope you're cheering up since Timmy is in bunny heaven... I almost lost my bunny yesterday because of a large gas bubble in his stomach (which felt so big) but then I realized we could give him infant gas drops since we had some stored in our kitchen cabinet. So we gave him 2 servings of it, then we decided not to give him anymore because we gave him alot of it but not too much, and the next day, he was perking up and eating again!! I was relieved!!! :D

In February, I lost my rabbit of two years, Brevis. His loss has been hard on me especially during this pandemic. A few weeks ago, I started watching your videos again, after watching the first video of Timmy's adventure. Through watching your videos, and how close you two were, I was finally able to move on from Brevis and try again. Just recently, I adopted a Holland lop, Pumpkin. Already, she's helped me so much and given me a new sense of meaning. Thank you, Mrs. Diane, for staying strong and loving your bunnies so dearly. They truly couldn't have a better mom! Great video! Thank you for posting, it's great to see you! Another litter box to consider (no grate though) is the Marshall ferret litter box. Cost is around $12 and it comes in 2 styles, locking and non locking (shaped a little different). It has a high back and low entrance. I have an elder bun who is a bit arthritic and has difficulty jumping so these pans have worked great for him. The lower lip is about 1 1/2 - 2" which makes it easy for him to get in and out of and its a really good sized pan. Doesn't take up a large amount of space being in a corner and plenty of room for all the different breeds of bunnies I've had except my Flemish Giant. They clean up easily with a bit of distilled white vinegar. I've had the same litter pans for the past 10 years, so it's been a wise investment.

Many years ago I made my own litter box out of a small, shallow Rubbermaid food storage container. I also made a grate for it out of hardware cloth and attached the cloth to the edge of the container so it was like hinged. The rabbit continually tried to pull the grate out. Now I use the metal litter boxes from KW Cages. The rabbits will either pull out the grates or not use the box if the grate is in place. I have never noticed that the pine horse bedding bothers them but my rabbits are outdoor rabbits.

I use a domed cat litter box with natural pine pellets (used as horse bedding). They chew the pine pellets into sawdust, grinding their teeth down and creating a more absorbant litter material. Dont use a lot because you have to dump the litter box every third day. A small amount of hay in there is great, since eating hay stimulates them to poop.

Sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to timmy we just rescued a yung female rabbit that has a gash on her neck and we thought the worst. She ended up not needing surgery and is doing great. I use the Tidy Cats Breeze System for my young man. It has a slide out drawer in the base for the pee pad. I don't use any pellets or litter. The pee goes through the grate but the poops stay on top. I put the hay directly in one end of the box. Every night I either dump the remaining hay and poops out or just scoop the poops depending on whether the hay is soiled or not. The company claims the pee pad will last a week (the pad absorbs the pee and turns it to gel) but that is for a cat. Rabbits drink way more water than kitties! I change the pad every third day. I love this box but I will admit the pads can get pricey. I know Amazon carries off brand pads for this system, but I haven't tried them yet because I'm nervous they won't work as well. The only other issue I have run across, but only lately, is that the Oxbow Timothy hay has been very different lately. It contained sooooo many very small clippings that fall through the grate. I have since switched to Small Pet Select and very little falls through.
@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the litter box tip. This time of year, most of the store-bought hays are likely from last year's harvest and a bit stale/brittle. At least in Ohio, first and second cuttings are now available for the 2020 harvest from local farms and are likely on their way to national sellers like Small Pet Select. Hay purchased from the same vendor will likely change in color and dryness throughout the year and depending on where/when your particular batch was grown. Another hay resource you might like is Farmer Dave's online. It's a small farmer-owned company from New York.

If your trying to get your rabbit litter trained, what i recommend for a litter box is a cat one. If you want your rabbit to be perfect no miss, they should be able to do a full 360 in the box. High edges are very good too. Also, don't use dusty cat litter! use bedding or wood pellets with lots of hay. Many times your rabbit will pee on the hay and wont want to eat it which will get rid of litter habits. You should have some hay in the box, but you could also have a hay feeder. many hay feeders online are expensive and very small, so what i do is use a tote bag that zips up and cut holes in it for hay to come out. you can hook it to a wire enclosure/ exercise pen for best use. 100% recommend.

Great topic suggestion, but I'm not sure I could do a whole video on cecotropes. :) Excessive cecotropes are not uncommon in babies until they learn to eat them and their systems mature, but in adults, it's usually either related to a diet too rich in treats/poor pellets or possibly an illness. As for cleaning them, vinegar/water in a spray bottle and a paper towel is what I use.

Absorbent material only needs to be placed in the litter box NOT the main areas where your bunny will play and sleep. If you want to add comfort items (such as rugs, blankets, or fabric mats) elsewhere, you can. I would wait until the bunny is mostly litter trained before placing too many comfort items though.

how big should an ex-pen be for 2 bunnies
@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын
If they are getting exercise outside of the pen frequently, then one pen would suffice, but the more you can attach together, the better. This is my favorite pen for outdoor use, but there are nicer plastic options as well. I suggest around 30" tall or higher, depending on what objects you have near the perimeter. @@HooksHollands i am going to make my own wooden one what wood would you recommend?
@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын
If you're making an enclosure for your bunny and want to use wood, pine should be fine as well as poplar, and I'm sure there are others. I'd Google it first, as some woods (like cedar) are likely problematic due to their oils.

Which litter box do you recommend? The one with the grate or no grate?
@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын
I like the grate, but no grate can also work if you clean it frequently.

Wait how is wire bad?? Never understood that because sore hocks is a genetic issue not caused by wire and bunnies never seen to be in any discomfort on wire. My house bunny has the option of being in his wire cage or running around and he usually chooses to be in his cage except when he is playing or getting attention.
@HooksHollands4 жыл бұрын
Wire can cause sore hocks but mostly for bunnies who are on wire constantly and have thin fur on their feet.

Litter training is all very well but what do you do when you have a house rabbit that free roams (inside and out) during daylight hours who has now decided that he won’t go in his litter tray at night but waits til you let him out in the morning! I’m now too scared to even consider going away. I know how important it is to keep the digestive/gut/bowel system going.
