I find myself skipping through the videos of him buying $100k+ exotics because they are boring videos and the cars aren't hoopties so all he's done is become the cookie cutter car guy everyone else is. Unfortunately, it's clear that all the hoopties he gets are solely for the show he does on the side that's behind a paywall cable subscription so it's rare seeing a genuine old school Hoovie video.

VDPEFi I think when a car guy with 1.41 million subscribers takes a car to a car shop for work he probably gets a better product than a regular schmuck. But Hoovie always got a $15,000 paint job.

I have to admit the '49 Cadillac is extremely nice. A period correct Restomod done correctly with Cadillac parts. If it was done now it would probably have a LSA or LT4 from a V which would be awesome but wouldn't fit the character of the '49 as much. The slightly lowered suspension, wire wheels, and white walls is what really sets it off.

@@boyracer3477 why lol there’s no point since they aren’t being produced, time will naturally thin out the number of classic cars being driven therefore even if california wanted a purely electric future they’d have little incentive to piss off and force people to give up cars that have marginal effects on the market/commerce in general. It’s the same reason antique guns can be bought by anyone in most countries, people aren’t afraid of obsolete calibers because they aren’t being produced just like california isn’t afraid of emissions from cars not being produced, only enthusiasts and collectors are going to be riding around occasionally in their lead chugging death traps :p

Man that Cadillac... normally I'm very trepidatious towards resto-mods, but whew that Caddy is so tastefully done you would never be able to guess it was a resto-mod without a bit of knowledge. The seats and steering wheel fit so well, and the engine I'm sure is that sweet spot of power of being classic-feeling engine without being quite as old or anemic as the '49 (probably not sweet on the MPG, but who can begrudge it for that). Love seeing it in videos, I can 100% see it being an amazing daily driver as well just for its comfort and the presence the vehicle has.

This video made me realise the two cars from early childhood that inspire me as a daily drive restomod are my mom’s dad’s 41 Olds in the same fastback body style as your 49 Caddy, and dad’s mom’s 38 LaSalle. Growing up during the war these two family cars marked the stylistic break between the older 30s cars and what were back the contemporary look. The Cord was probably the car that inspired this shift. So for someone my age your 49 Cadillac is more closely related to all those cars that were made since - the whole 3 decade progression up to the malaise era. The La Salle, from my perspective is a bit old fashioned, and of course the preceding Model A square body style the last ruminant of carriage style coachwork - so to speak. There were plenty of them on the roads during the war as I peeked out from my perch in the front seat of these and other family cars.

Beautiful 49 Cadillac ! Love that body style. My uncle who raised me bought a new one with that body style in 49. I have the original invoice from O’Conner Cadillac in Kansas City Kansas for it. I don’t remember the car but have a picture of myself and my twin brother sitting on the hood about 2 years old. Cost was $3,668.95. My Uncle always drove new Cadillacs from my first memory of him till he passed in 1969. I remember going with him to Greenlease Cadillac in 57 when he bought a 57 Cadillac Eldorado Seville in goddess gold below pastel green top and red custom leather seats. Had 2 4 barrel carbs and chrome spoke wheels. I was 10 years old. I sat beside him and steered that car on the gravel roads in the country. He traded it for a new white 60 Coupe deVille and that for a 63 Coupe deVille. Like your KZbin!!

Go with cylinder deactivation. Optional on 500.

@@rogersmith7396 Actually the cylinder deactivation was single year only on the 368 V8. It's unfortunate that they had all of those electronics problems. Mechanically the system was sound

@@V8Power5300 I have a 454 Truck which I won't drive due to gallons per mile economy. I wonder if I could remove the pushrods from two cylinders to get a little sanity. I'm guessing the tappets would have to come out too but I don't know if that would upset oiling or vacume somehow. I posed the question to an expert but got no reply. Its throttle body FI

@@V8Power5300 Sorry but you're wrong. Bad cylinder deactivation was available on 5.7s in the late 70's, and all thru the 90's. Bad in that it just turned off the fuel injectors to the center 4 cylinders, so there were 4 boat anchors in your 5.7, V8. It saved owners a whole shot glass of gas, every 100 miles.😂🤣 And took any hint of power out of the already anemic car. I still remember a dealership mechanic in Tulsa, showing me the pink wire he was cutting to fix an "under performing" Caddy a costumer had recently bought. She wanted her June Bug to fly. To hell with the cost of gas! (This was 1980's Oklahoma after all) 🤣😂🤣

@@rogersmith7396 Removing the lifters would cause a huge oil leak. What year is the 454? HEI ignition era ones would lose power/gas mileage when the pickup coil in the distributor went bad.

I was an industrial metal finisher for almost 15 years, mainly zinc and anodize but did a lot of other processes too and 1 thing that will really help if you want to clean up any chrome on your own is a product called "Bar Keepers Friend", it's a powder that comes in a gold colored can like comet.

The '49 Cad is my favorite of all the cars you have presented on the HG channel. I would daily this rolling sculpture, and when I am dead I would be buried beneath it's parking space.
