When Hyundai first decided to make their own model, They went to Ford for help, because at that time, Hyundai was knockdown assembling Ford cars for South Korean market. But Ford laughed them off. Then Hyundai asked Volkswagen for help, but Volkswagen only wanted Hyundai to produce Beetle, and didn't want to help Hyundai developing their own model. So Hyundai then approached Toyota, and Toyota said "NO". Next they went to Mitsubishi, who said yes. So Hyundai learn to make cars from Mitsubishi. and That's why Hyundai had a lot of quality problems initially.

It's becuse Cadillac is ran by young idiots. The last real Cadillac was the DTS which was killed off after 2011, and with the exception of the Escalade, it's been nothing but downhill from there. Cadillac has lost their way when they abandoned their real customer base and the traditional full-size American luxury car, and it started when they tried to build American BMW's. There's a reason that the older DTS, Devilles, Fleetwoods, and Fleetwood Sixty Specials are flying off the used car and private owner lots nowadays.

@@jaybee2344 I would not ask Ford or GM execs. Its not that there is no market for sedans, its just there is no market for GM or Ford sedans. While the market may be shrinking, there is still profit to be made for the companies that make good sedans at good prices. A foreign concept to US car companies.

GM built the 2008=2009 Pontiac G8 GT with a 6.0 360 HP tire shredding V8 rear wheel drive Blaupunct 11 speaker sound system with two rear deck sub woofers fully loaded for 34000.00. Power, luxury, race car performance. Built for only two years and now these cars are in high demand. I know because I had one and to this day only die hard Pontiac fans even know they existed. ANERICANS SICK OBSESSION with SUVS and PICK UPS is why GM, Ford, Chrysler stopped building big rear wheel drive V8 sedans.

@@gtpcruiser02 That's not really a luxury car in the traditional sense. It was GM's response to the Germans, and a very good one, but it, too, contributed to Pontiac's demise. A traditional luxury car is not about race-car performance, shredding tires and a loud stereo system; it's about comfort and serenity.

The Hyundai umbrella is awesome man. I've owned 4 Hyundai and Kia's, all ranging from 2005 - 2018 and they were all super competitive in features and performance per price at the time they were sold for their class. The 05 Optima V6 was kinda a cheap car forsure, but reliable as hell. But from 2006 onwards they really stepped their game up. My 06 Sonata V6 was amazing, never had any major issues, quality was really good for mid 2000s and that V6 had to be one of the most powerful in the consumer mid size class. That thing was great. My 09 Spectra5 SX was an amazing hatchback, the sport tuned suspension handled better than an Mk5 GTi and if had alot of features not found on a $16k car back then. My current is an Elantra GT Sport which isn't an Elantra at all, it's actually a hatchback they sell in Europe called the i30 and man it has the European quality forsure. It's legit like a luxury hot hatch with all the features, performance, and seriously good quality. There isn't anything else in its class that competes besides $40k+ GTi's or AMG CLA hatches. It has all the features those have and more. And I cannot stress the quality enough, it's great. Oh, and it has more interior room and hatch space than the CUVs on the market. Hyundai is great man!

So I owned a 2002 Hyundai Grandeur 25L in Korea when I lived there with my wife (stationed there from the army). I Loved it! Mine had 80k km (about 50k miles) so not a lot at all. It also had heated front and rear seats along with rear seat radio controls... but no cruise control. And it made 190 HP because Korea uses a lot better quality gas and perhaps didn't care about emissions as much back then. Since I had that car, I've wanted to buy on in the states. I really liked it and I sold it for what I bought it for a year and 10,000 km more - $2,500.

If the memory serves faithfully, the XG was actually an even older design than that. I remember seeing those, as the Grandeur (as in delusions of), back about 1999 in South Korea. They had a trim panel running across the back of the car between the tail lights with that name on it. Back then, I'd add that on the streets, they definitely liked their big flashy grilles. Go out on those streets, you'd see big chrome grilles plastered on Excels. Oh, and lots of those bead things for the seats. One of the managers at the KFC I used to work at had one of the first generation Excels. I remember the mylar stripes on the side that said, "Keep it jingling, baby!" . She didn't, ditching it for a Mercury Cougar. What the XG/Grandeur really seems to be is a imitation of the Japanese four door hardtop style, which with the last of that style, was also fake. Think Lexus ES 250 and 300, Mitsubishi Diamante, or the original US market Infinit M45.. For a real fake Town Car, consider the Kia Amanti, it even has the formal roof line. I also enjoyed your considering the effects of true luxury, vs. luxury being just a tacked on badge. After all, is a Mercedes CLA really a luxury car?

I had a 2003 XG350L and it was an excellent car. Fit and finish was top notch. The frameless windows were an elegant touch.
