How To Make A Mobile Home Trailer Feel More Like A House!!!

Remodeling a living space can be so cathartic! Turning a house into a home! But it can also be intimidating and stressful if you don't have a plan together, because you risk messing up the place you'll be staying in for the foreseeable future.
This video is intended to provide a bit of motivation, inspiration, and just a touch of advice to get you started on your own remodeling project :-)
Its a bit of a hodgepodge including time-lapses and footage I have from way back when I started 4 years ago, all the way up to days before uploading this video, but hopefully it helps with at least the basics.
I have plenty of other footage from various stages of the remodel, but they wouldn't fit in this video, so if you want me to make another remodeling video, let me know in the comments below.

Questions from a beginner #1. I love the flooring can you put in the comments what type of flooring it was what brand what you cut it with? What did you use to cut the drywall? #2. Also what did you use to cut out the hole for the light socket it was hard to see you don't mention it can you also put that in the description? #3. Coping? what is coping? can you make a video of that how to miter the corners together? Just a thought. 🤔 even though you know what you're doing, beginners like me, I would love to put in a flooring but don't even have the first clue as to where to start what tools to buy and so forth....

You make some solid points, and I'm happy to report that I have already taken those things into account and plan to address them 😁 I plan on making a video dedicated to what tools I use, but for know I will tell you the thing I use the most is a Dremel Ultra Saw. I intentionally did not do the window trim or an trim in the closet, because I plan on making a video dedicated to showing the proper ways to do coping and trim work, as well as completely re-framing the windows 😁 As far as what flooring I used, it was just some basic laminate from Lowes, so I would suggest just looking through their online store to see which one would work best for your situation based on preference 🙂 Thanks again for the questions a and feedback! I am still in early stages of this channel, and have so many more videos planned for showing the basic skills and beginner level information 😁

The molding didn’t look like it met correctly (like a picture frame). I’m no expert and as I understand it, getting it to match can be difficult. I would watch videos on anything you want to learn specifically.

@@hopesdreamsducttape41 we put luxury vinyl in my double wide. It’s a less expensive option and just as pretty wood without acclimation time. Mine also had drywall with no wall strips which is very nice. Mine was built in 2008. I love it. Of course I live in paradise just outside San Diego California.

@@hopesdreamsducttape41 a lot of the water damage problems on old trailers is the mounting when they get put on a property etc. The biggest issue is the siding of these trailers that cover the bottom weren't watertight so water got in. They were notorious for having bad floors. Modern trailers don't have this problem as the siding technology had improved. Change the siding if there is water damage or that could also be a sign of plumbing issues.

@@hopesdreamsducttape41 also don't use plywood for flooring. Get some subflooring etc and cut a piece. Plywood is known for being fragile and not being able to hold as much weight.

One thing to add, particularly in a mobile home: Anything you touch confers a feeling of quality (or lack thereof). Therefore, replacing anything you frequently touch with a higher quality grade will help your mobile home feel more like a normal house: doorknobs, faucets, flushers, cabinet pulls, etc.

Yes! And sometimes DOORS. I've seen so many solid build modulars that just have cheap doors which ruins the whole experience. A little weight can go a long way sometimes in feeling premium!

Removing those seam covers and flat taping (I'm a former drywall finisher) over them would have taken the overall upgrade up a few notches. Always allow the curtains to skim the floor, it adds a look of elegance, the installation height is excellent though, overall, well done!! One more thing, paint stores will have miss-tinted paint at a reduced price. Put mildew retardant in your paint for bathrooms, and flame retardant in the paint for the other rooms, mobile home fires are hot. An ounce of prevention they say.

I think he should avoid curtains all together, but you're correct about the length for sure. If he bought or made some roman shades & painted the trim trim & quarter round on the ceiling white, it would be great. The dark quarter round is shortening the ceiling. Curtains (especially for a guy) are just dust collectors & look stuffy.)

Mobile homes are filled with paneling. Paneling is insanely flammable. Mine is completely gutted and will be redone with rockwool insulation and 5/8" drywall. The ceilings are compressed paper! It also doesn't help that all the electric outlets are back-wired, which is lazy and dangerous.

@@SciaticaDrums Great points. Yes the paneling is a hot burning fuel. For those people who cannot redo their mobile homes with drywall, the addition of flame retardant to the paint can add enough of a barrier to slow things down a bit, hopefully enough to get out ok.

30 yr old double wide completely redone. No more popcorn ceiling, I've taped and mudded every joint, no crown molding just a nice straight seam along the ceiling. Replaced all the cheap molding around the windows with nice white ridged. New laminate flooring and it now looks like a real house! Had a leak behind the dishwasher which destroyed the particle board kitchen cabinets, so hubby and I built new ones which included hand made cabinet doors! I'm very proud of our home😊

I did the same thing with my 25 yr old mobile home! The biggest difference was taking down the popcorn ceilings and taking down all those brads on the walls and ceilings and muddying and taping all the joints. Love my remodeled home!

We moved into a mobile home in OR after the kids moved out and we relocated from TX. I vowed to make it my palace. We bought it for 32K and put about 40K into it over the 8 1/2 years we lived there and it was amazing. Quartz countertops in the Ikea kitchen, granite in the bathrooms. Enormous master bath tiled, walk-in shower etc. I loved it! Alas, our last son decided to move back to TX, and we couldn't bear the idea of them all being so far away, so we sold it just this past April for 180K cash... We bought a brand new house here in TX that isn't nearly as plush with upgrades, even if it is bigger and new, and every day I think about how much I loved that little house. Home is what you make it. Yu're doing a great job of making your mobile home a house, too. :)

I rented a single wide nearly 24 years ago expecting to move soon afterwards with a 1/2 million dollar inheritance but it was stolen from me by a sibling. My landlord during all that time has kept my rent at only $600/mo and let's me do what I want to it. It's in his will that I can live here till the end of my life if I choose (I'm 66) at the same rent I'm paying now. I painted everything, redid the bathroom, and put in that grey laminate floor in the entire place. My little place is cozy and pleasant. That laminate flooring is magical, it can elevate any room and is so easy to install. Well done.

I think a main one is to take pride. You have a roof over your head, you are protected from the elements, don’t see it as a “not a house” but as your home. I do agree on the floor and lights, I used to live in one and luckly we didn’t have a carpet and the lights we had were really warm.

I bought moved my mobile home there 31 years ago. I worked 2 jobs raised 4 kids in a mobile home and I have upgraded by painting, putting new floors down! I love it and I have a very small mortgage which leaves me with money to have a small place at the beach ⛱. They can have the big homes and mortgages. Good job! Looks great!

If it hasn’t been mentioned before, replacing ALL of those “mobile home style” outlets and switches with standard equipment is a much needed upgrade. The mobile home ones use push-in connectors that often fail and can lead to electrical fires - standard switches and outlets use screw-in side terminals, which are much safer. You’ll need “old-work” boxes that clamp onto the drywall to mount them into.

Nice job. My husband is a very skilled tradesman and does so much himself. Ours is a mid 70’s, 14 x 70. We got it in 2004 as a vacation getaway instead of buying a camper and dealing with all that goes with one. So we decided to do a complete renovation with our senior years in mind. We reconfigured three bedrooms into 2 adding more functional laundry space to the bathroom. We took out the tub in favor of a shower with a seat. The absolute best thing we just did was to add a mudroom off the driveway with a little porch. It added so much character and charm as well as function. An added bonus was it breaks up the awkward looking length. Its so cozy and welcoming. We replaced the kitchen, all windows, added a screened porch, painted the paneling, ceilings, installed plywood over all of the particle board floors and installed plank flooring over that. We did carpet the bedrooms. Mobile homes can make really nice practical, one level cozy homes. Especially for people that don’t have large budgets. Not everyone can afford the McMansion.

We live in a double wide trailer. We are ripping up the last of the carpet now. And putting hard flooring down. The flooring we have is thicker than most and has the padding on the bottom already. It definitely does make a huge difference. We have changed ceiling fans and even installed one ourselves in our oldest son’s room. We are just learning as we go and it’s coming together nicely. Easier than we thought it would be. And saving a lot of money doing it ourselves.

Manufactured homes are a far far cry from "trailers. 32 years ago we bought land developed it and after pricing site build, modular, single wides and double wides, we bought a double wide, had many upgrades, including extra insulation, plaster board walls,(no strips), it is a three bedroom, 2 bath, formal living, dining, family room, laundry and of course a good sized kitchen. could have had a basement but after living in a three story house, with way to much "stuff" decided I did not want a basement to fill with junk. Over the years we redid the kitchen and the master bath, as most do after 25 years. What I found ,was a few always refered to our home with, "trailer" in a distainful voice, while at the same time complaing about the price of their morgage. Most however, complimented us on a lovely home. The stigma of a "trailer" including the ordeal of getting a morgage, even when it is on a permenent foundation, is actually, as far as I can see, is a snobish attitude. Great Job, with your updates, a home is what you make it, regardless of it's orgin!

I absolutely love it! One decor tip...pick curtains that are long enough to go from there floor to the ceiling 😊 Brighter curtains with blackout backing if you need the room to be dark. Floor to ceiling curtains help create the illusion of the space feeling taller than it is 😉

For the corners on trim ceiling and floor Home Depot/ Lowes, and probably Menards sell small trim pieces that go in the corners vertically and then all your cuts are just common square cuts. They are cheap and look great. Also you can cut them to length depending on your size of trim.

I think the results are amazing. The only suggestion I would make is to use a 2-3 inch moulding. It would look more “house-like” with a beefier moulding. Great job!

Yes, I definitely took the easy/cheap way out in this room because of time and budget limitations 😅 In my master bedroom, I got raw wood 4 inch raw wood mounding, and went the whole 9 yards sanding it down and staining it 😁 You can see that in my video, Mobile Home Remodel Time-lapse 😋

We sold our large brick home and downsized to a double wide mobile home! We were careful and had it designed to our liking! The only thing we have done is we took out the sliding patio door and added French doors! We owned a lumber yard so we were particular to get Sheetrock, crown molding, 36 inch doors,, ceramic bathroom sinks, high end faucets, walk in closets in all 3 bedrooms! Large bathrooms! We measured the main living room wall to make sure a shelf we had made years ago to house our family memories would fit! I had a large island because I make bread! High end appliances! A large enough utility room for our washer dryer n large upright freezer! We added a 50’ x 8’ covered porch on the front and a 50’ x 16’ back covered patio for an out door kitchen! Easy clean windows with 2x6 studs! Ceilings are straight approximately 10’ tall! We had all carpet replaced with wood look vinyl flooring! Roof edges are straight because we moved it to the farm! Oh and we had the useless garden tub removed and put in a walk in closet for my husband! I think it is right at 1700 sq feet! Extra insulation in walls, floor and roof! We essential received a raise! Our electric bill went from $650 to less than $200! No gas! Taxes n insurance are a little less than half! Our maintenance is minimal’ we made sure we have wooden doors n shelves in all the cabinets! We chose white ceilings, soft tan walls, white floorboards n trim n doors! The cabinets and vanities are chocolate brown, all stainless appliances, handicap doors and walk in shower! Clear storm doors! The outside is a deep red! I’m sure I’m forgetting something! Oh we spaced windows in master to fit our large bed in between! My first cousin could not believe we sold our big brick home n moved into a doublewide until he came for a visit! It was less than $100k and the porches were $20k I think n it’s on the farm! That was in 2015 n not a single regret!! My back patio looks out at our chickens, goats n donkey! My husbands 4000 sq ft shop is next door and the garden is large enough for us to share with our large family and those less fortunate! We purchased a 200 yard lake front place less than 40 min away and are in process of getting it ready for summers! We have a boat dock, floating dock n stationary dock that are all covered, we have 2 docks for jet skis and it is chain-linked for our dog! We are living large in our retirement! My husband and kids built a huge cover for our boats n made it into an outdoor kitchen! Now to build a cabin or tiny house! So no not all people who have elected to live in a mobile home are trash! Selling the big house made it possible to buy the lake property! It was just very smart for us in this season of our life! Love your remodel!

When my central air went out I had to get window units for a couple of years. When we leveled the house, we removed the central air unit, floor vents, and window air conditioners to put in a mini split air and heat unit. I didn’t like having to decorate around floor vents. We sealed the floor vent holes very good and put down a padded linoleum that looks like a wood floor. It made a HUGE difference in my bills year round. Those floor vents made me so mad because I had to keep cleaning them. They were located in high traffic areas. I bought my mobile home for $7000 from a couple divorcing. My home is a 1984 model but it is solid! Everyone that comes inside always says it’s amazing not to feel or hear people walking around lol 😂. Most people around here have new mobile homes. I’m talking $70,000 and up! After growing up in a huge 5 bedroom 2 bath home, I couldn’t bring myself to paying that much for a house. I want to live my life not spend it paying for a house. My parents sold that home to buy a nice used mobile! They wish they had done that much earlier in life.

They will even come in and make sure your central heat works, as it's state law. We have an inherited home we're working on and we have to use a split system because the central system was beyond repair. We're putting so much money into fixing this place up but we can't find anyone to provide homeowners without central HVAC ☹️

Manufactured homes haven’t been classified as “trailers” since 1976, it 1976 the builders changed how they build these homes. They were built to higher standards & HUD requirements and as such they were then called manufactured homes. Manufactured homes are being built better & better. A lot of homes I sell you’d never even guess it was a manufactured home from the interior, we still have a way to go as far as exterior goes but they have come a LONG way! My sister upgraded from a spec home in a subdivision to a custom built double section of 5 acres. Her house was $185k the new home was $260k and her new home is absolutely gorgeous! Her little spec house had tile countertops her new home has granite countertops, 6ft island, fireplace and much more! You can make them as fancy or as basic as you’d like.

When I once was a newly wed back in ‘63 thru ‘65 , we lived in a fairly new single. Loved it ! It had all matching yellow fixtures in a U shaped kitchen. Floor plan was an excellent layout and best of all it had all kinds of storage , yes, a place for everything & ofcourse everything in its place. Comfortable, cozy and I felt safe .... sooo, nothing but good memories for me😊. I’m sure you’re feeling the same in your darling little place, especially now after all you’ve done.👍

New subscriber as well! It's such an accomplishment to make upgrades in your house yourself. We purchased a 32x80 in 1997 and added a 550sq ft garage that we turned into a bar 🍸 room. It's so spacious. It looks like a mobile home on the outside but when you enter you question whether or not it really is a mobile home. We removed the skirting and replaced it with bricks. We're surrounded by trees on a lot of land. I love my peaceful lifestyle. Debt free!

You can also remove the strips on the wall and tape and float the sections together so it looks l8e a regular h9me. Also, if you paint isn’t quite what you want, you can always add white to lighten or black to darken.

I did both of those ideas! Removing the strips make a huge difference. We had bought a gray paint I didn’t like so I add a little extra gray to make it darker.

@@slpincock we didn’t do that with our single wide, but when we moved to our double wide it was over 1,800 sq. ft., so I got really tired of the strips. My husband and I pulled all the strips off in the living room first. Then I taped and mudded (first time) the separated lines. Then we painted the walls white and put lots of color into the decor. I don’t like white paint, but made a compromise with my husband ‘cause he’s color blind and nothing really looks good on the walls, to him. Our next house was a stick built and I was able to have a very light grey paint throughout the whole house except the kitchen which we painted a very light buttery yellow. Twenty-one years later it’s still the same color. Have never repainted 😩

Great improvement job. I purchased a repo double wide about 16 yrs ago. First thing I did was rip out the carpet, every inch in every room, the previous owners had dogs that tracked in dirt n fleas, I thought there was enough dirt under the carpet n padding to grow a garden. Then I widened every door that there was room to, I hate skinny doors, in case I or some one has to use a wheelchair that won't go through a 28 or 30 inch doorway.. that done I put real wood floor in through all the bedrooms and living room spaces. Stained and clear coated, it looks great. I laid tile squares in the bathrooms and kitchen and utility rooms, which I have mixed feelings about now but I'm glad I did it. The point of this book is that as a newly single female in my 50's n now 60's, I encourage every one to make what you live in, your home. I did almost all of the improvements on my own, had some help carrying supplies . DIY as much as you feel comfortable doing and enjoy your accomplishments, it's very satisfying. I took down the walls in mine and put up plywood, where I did that shou sugi ban method, preserving wood by charring it with fire. It came out so cool and added some insulation to my home. Yes, it was a little more money but so worth it. I did it in my living room/kitchen/dining area and master bedroom. Your room looks great!

AWESOME VIDEO! I bought a 50 year-old doublewide 6 years ago; and I've been slowly renovating it - removing walls, building new walls, replacing subfloors, etc... The old trailer is structurally rock-solid, but the renovation has been one challenge after another; despite being a highly skilled carpenter (by trade), as well as a very competent plumber & electrician. Because I also utilize window units, but appreciate the natural light of windows; I have installed my window units through exterior walls, which frees up the windows and gives more of a "homey" feel to a room/space (not to mention that it reduces the noise of the window unit).

I have paneling, so I took off all the joining slats and made sure the paneling was secure to the studs. Then I mudded every single groove on the paneling, painted it with Kilz to take the sheen of the paneling. I then wallpapered it with a non matching anaglypta paper. (A raised pattern paper) and painted it. Yes it is time consuming, but everyone who comes in asks if I had the walls re-textured. It is fun to watch the surprise on their faces when I tell them that it is wallpaper.

I like "knock down". I have never lived in any kind of mobile/ manufactured home but, been in plenty of them over the years. Our " knock down" was very flat on the walls of our family room. From a short distance away the walls looked flat but, up close you could see the design of the flattened " mud". It was easy to wash & paint & a lot less work than finishing dry wall. I'd have it on all my walls if I had a mobile home.

I believe in Taking care of whatever I have. Just keeping wherever you live clean really helps. Always take pride in whatever you have is a plus. My mom told me years ago to never make a slum for myself and not to ever destroy wherever I live.

The first thing I did to make my older MH look like a house was to remove those horrid strips on the walls and put in tape and spackle. Yes, it takes time and effort, but well worth it. Those strips make it look cheap, and no amount of painting can fix that. You did a good job on your budget, though.

Yes! It makes it look so much better! I did that in my master bedroom, which is the other video I just posted about remodeling. In the process of remodeling a 1975 mobile home now, we are on fixed incomes so our budget planning had to include keeping a lot of the original interior, including the melamine cabinets. Filled in all the wood paneling crevases with drywall mud, learned how to make the old ceiling tiles look like sheetrock, new flooring we found on closeout at 50 cents a sf, and it is a quality beautiful floor, we bought lumber direct from the mill to build decks and do a room addition, and I thrift shopped for new door hardware and some fab lighting. I love vintage appliances so I found some pretty great up color appliances that were top of the line for their time, they work perfectly and look great, most everything except for the flooring and wood has been thristed. Right now we have 1300 sf of home and our total expence is less than 4000. We still have the exterior painting to do and a few plumbing pieces to replace. The home itself was given to us, just to get it off the peoples property, it had been well cared for. You probably aren't cheap or lazy, sounds like good housing choice for what you can afford for now. The housing market is way out of control for the avg. person, nothing wrong with finding alternatives.

@@hopesdreamsducttape41 , We have always had big house loans, we still currently have 10 years left on one mortgage, but we didn't need 2500 sf anymore. So during CO-V one of our daughters was severely impacted she has children, so we gave her the house to live in. It actually worked out good for us, especially now with the economy. But we are old as dirt, so we have to pinch everywhere we can. One doesn't have to spend a fortune to have a decent place to live, my mother used to say "we was poor but we were proud " She never owned a home, but her lil places looked like a million bucks.

If you paint the paneling, say white, it looks like stable boards. 🐎You do not have to fill in the grooves. Also wallpaper only the top half of wood paneling and add a trim to the paper bottom and it will look like old fashioned wainscoting. Easy hack. 👌

@@marciabyram6003 , After we put the add on into the living room, we had 3 diff wall textures coming togeather in one room, so the easiest way to match it all was with mudding, then we decided we would just do it all since we started anyway. It really didn't take too terribly long and now the walls all look drywalled. The living room is now very large 16x22, lots of room for visitors :)

I have 2 acres and was looking for a mobile home to put on it, but I wanted something different. I found a 1959 Magnolia still origional inside and out with slanted 50s walls and 3 teired roof line. It was small 2 bedrooms and one bath. All rooms have ashwood built in furniture. I added a large 25×40 room to backside that doesnt show from front. Now I have all the space i want with my hugh new den. I wrapped it in windows and made it look like a sunroom. I love living in this retro trailer. I am surrounded by large oak trees and tons of landscaping.

It's kind of weird for most people, probably, but I like the seams in the wall board. It breaks up the wall and gives it the pre-fab look that's trendy in a lot of kit homes today. Because that's precisely what it is - prefab.

Two things to add about flooring is to 1. make sure you don't allow seams to come in contact otherwise your flooring is doomed to come apart, "stairstepping" the flooring is the best way to avoid this and that's simply by starting with a full board, then your next starter cut a foot off and repeat until you go back to a full board (In most cases the LVP floorings are 4ft in length so it would be a 4ft board, then you would cut a 3ft board, a 2ft board, and a 1ft board, install the next few full boards onto those then repeat with a full board till you get to the end of the room) 2. Once you've measured your room add 10% to your final square footage. Not every room is perfectly square because framers are alcoholics so as your cutting end pieces for your row you won't always be able to use the scraps as a starter and vice-versa. Having an extra 10% helps avoid a situation where you're so close to finishing but you end up running out of usable boards (which happened way more frequently than I would have liked when I was a flooring installer) and if you got a nice quality flooring product it can sometimes take weeks in order to get another box when you just need to finish a row or two. Another good reason to have extra flooring is you're bound to chip or break boards when installing them, there may be something in the groove that you didn't realize and you keep hammering your board harder and harder trying to make it click together AND THEN BAM you smack a gnarly chunk out of your board. Or if later down the line say a year from your install you drop something sharp or heavy on your flooring and cause a dent or gouge it, a lot of these flooring brands are constantly putting out new designs and get rid of old ones and you would not be able to replace that board(s) otherwise because the product you used a year ago is now discontinued. I hope these tips can help someone out there!

When I moved to the San Diego area, my brother was kind enough to purchase a condo for me. But alas it wasn’t meant to be. After a full remodel, it ended up that I couldn’t stay because it was 55 and over community. And I was guess what? 50. So I moved into a double wide mobile home. My brother took out the carpet and installed luxury vinyl plank and I moved in. I was devastated. But, I have diligently worked on making it beautiful. I wasn’t able to do renovation projects, because I’m disabled, but I have made it beautiful and it’s become my sanctuary. It was built in 2008. ITS fully dry walled no seams in the walls and I’m the second resident. It has vaulted ceilings which is nice. It’s beautiful and now I love it. Sure there are things I’d change if I could. I’d love to have stone countertops and tiled showers like I did in the condo, but it’s home and I’m real happy here. Should I put my house tour on KZbin?

I lived in a mobile home for 15 years and loved it. We removed all the slates and drywall mudded it and then sanded and painted and what a big difference. Then when adding a wood click and lock wood floor in our bedroom. Awesome. Saved a lot of money.

I remodel a 4 bedroom 2 bath repo mobile home about 10 years ago. I moved it to a lot with a 3 bedroom septic tank, so one bedroom was converted into and office off the living room. I found out that you must take the closet out to make it an official office. A counter was put between the living room and kitchen using upper cabinets for a wider countertop. The space became opened and very comfortable. It was a fun project.

I have a 1969 mobile home and a 1981 mobile home that I am in process of remodeling. I agree it is nicer looking like a pier and beam home. My only problem is finding front and back doors to fit. I rebuilt both outside walls of older trailer living room. Now they really look like a pier and beam home inside. One wall is reclaimed barn wood. I love it.

Check with your local Re-Store for doors and windows. People bring in all kinds of old items from rehabbing, and the proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity. You can find amazing things there.

spent about 8k redoing all the floors, removing all the tak strips on the walls and replacing them with taped joints, repainted everything (ceiling included) and also re did all the electrical to have drywall boxes (use shallow ones) rather than those self contained outlets/switches). I honestly loved it as first place to own/live as its a nice way to learn how to handle issues and also a good practice bed If I ever decide to build/purchase a larger house.

back in 04 I saw a small single wide for 275/month in OKC. The carpet in the bathroom was covering a sizable hole and the earth below! But I worked and stayed for years and saved $ to buy a "real house" down the street.....now once again I got a fixer doublewide up near the lake in a small and reletively crime free place. The cheap original construction is making way for sturdy and well insulated floors and walls. All the hot/cold water lines are now inside the building not under it. The dilapidated hvac is gone and a nice woodstove in the living area is all we need-with a few room heaters and window a/c. We had a cool hazardous waste recycling drop off in OKC and a swap room where you could take up to 10 items every month and got tons of free paint! And pallet wood flooring in all the bedrooms! On zillow it looks like the value has increased 4x in 4 years.

If you ever plan to paint your doorframe and windowsill I think painting them white would really tie the whole room together, that light brown just doesn't seem to for with all the other improvements you made. Other wise it looks great! The only thing I would have done differently is remove the seem covers and taped them to have seemless walls.

I lived and totally remodelled a mobile home years ago. What we did for the ceiling trim was used a wood product called "wire hide" - it looked like miniature crown moulding - was great because it really upped the look of the finishes - a bit more expensive than the ceiling trim you used, but well worth it for how it looked.

This was good to see. I live in an older home with less square footage than a mobile home. I want to finish it to make it look better. It was good to see the saw you used for the laminate flooring. I want to install new laminate flooring in the house. I finished what was there since the previous owner didn't finish the job. But she also installed most of it incorrectly. I want to redo the whole thing with a uniform floor. Tools like that would help me do the job better. Your ideas on trim helped a lot. I bought my house unfinished, so there is no trim. It's a blank slate, and your video helped a lot. As a bonus, the kitchen in my house is an addition with a sloping ceiling that comes down to about my height. The light fixture has to hug the ceiling. It's currently an ultra basic two fluorescent tubes. Your solution isn't right for the space, but you did give me ideas for what to look for. And the suggestion of window coverings helped a lot. I'm using window coverings from my old house which was larger and had bigger windows. Time to take some pride and put something decent there!

Iv remodeled my brand new 4/2 Truhome Marvel and it looks amazing. I added a beam and done tape and float, paint, new trim and added 1x4s on windows iv added planks and ceiling fans to every room. It looks just like a house!

Taking strips off wall/ceiling is what makes it look like an actual house (it can be a lot of extra work, depending on your mudding skills, but it's SO worth it!). And PLEASE get a headboard! It's a must, to complete the look of a bedroom. Also, hang your curtains about 2 inches from the ceiling and make sure they go to the floor. It makes the ceilings feel taller. And if you want to make the room seem bigger, hang a large mirror on the wall across from the windows. It'll reflect the light, making the room brighter and feel larger. Lastly, a rug is a must! They have websites that will help you figure out what size you should get (considering room size and furniture placement). Just some suggestions from years of watching This Old House and HGTV.😄 Ok...last tip. Don't forget to clean the outside of the windows. It's that attention to detail you were talking about. Please don't take my suggestions as negative criticism, your room still looks amazing and you should feel proud of the results of your hard work!!!❤

My partner and I moved into our double wide trailer as our first home and we LOVE it so so much. It's so open on the inside, roomier than you'd think, and the outside is simple and perfect for building a deck or porch to make it your own. When finalizing your decor, I think the brown trim windows adds warmth and you should bring more touches of that. It will still have a sleek masculine vibe. Maybe use some matching wood (to your window trim) in a sleek headboard or upgrade to bamboo window treatments to offset the cool gray. It would look very modern and chic.

You did a great job. It is a lot of work, but to make it look less mobile home, you can remove the batten strips, the strip you took down to replace the sheetrock, and fill the gaps before painting. But that would require just what you were trying to avoid, having to tape, texture, sand, and a big mess, but it looks really good afterward. 😊 Have done both ways in different mobile homes I have and currently live in. You made it look easy, but that's a lot of work. Job well done.

Great room!! Lots think mobile homes or “trailers” are just that, but they can be VERY nice and can be remodeled cheaply and easily! Tip: To make it look even more high end, get curtains that go to the floor. The rod placement could be another inch or two higher, but it’s good.

@@hopesdreamsducttape41 IKEA has the best deals on curtains, hands-down. And they're all super long! If they're too long, you can get hemming tape for less than $2, fold the bottom of the curtain to the length you want, put the tape in between the fabric & iron it. Presto! Hems without sewing! Washable too :) Also I noticed you purchased a new vent register. I thought about doing that but they're around $15 each, & eight of mine were rusted. (couldn't afford that) I removed them, sanded them down, & spray-painted them with Rustoleum high-heat appliance spray paint. Total cost was a couple dollars for sandpaper squares & around 7 dollars for the can of spray paint. They look brand new! Just a thought, if you have any other vent covers that look sad. Great video, & great ideas! You massively improved that room.

Yes, paint really works and so does wallpaper, even on paneling. I have owned 3 trailers before and fixed them up to be pretty awesome. One was a 1954! I'd love to have one of those guys again with real birch paneling. No way did I paint that one but bright new counter tops in the kitchen and a vinyl wallpaper back splash looked great. *Always insulate your skirting too. 😊

@@777Pattie You either take the old skirting off or insulate new skirting by attaching insulation to the inside with screws or a strong adhesive, new or old. Some people use foam boards also which would be less mess. They might sell insulated skirting by now too. I don't know. 🙂

Basically what me and my wife did on the flooring and paint/trim we put a near flush ceiling fan that hugs the ceiling so it only hangs down about 12 inches total with four lights it's super bright in our living room now plus we have a chandelier over the sink counter we never really turn that on lol our trailer went from a 3-4 to about a 7 when it comes to a living space it'd comfortable and it's fine we have old paneling on the inside but I used drywall mud and sand paper to smooth it out and we painted it with a flat light grey bluish paint it came out exactly how we wanted it to the we also overed our nasty tin trailer with more modern vinyl siding and now the trailer looks like it was built in the last decade instead of the 70s lol our trailer looks great now once we got it completely done it went from a 3-4 to about a 9 when it comes to mobile homes it's definitely a 9-9.5 honestly it looks great inside instead of looking junky

We added those very blinds to our manufactured home's living room windows. Helped a lot as you mentioned. Our home is over 40 years old and is a single wide. We are in the process of changing decor to make a more pleasant look. We moved in two years ago but progress takes time when you are a retiree it seems.

You can definitely do it! I can’t tell you how many projects ytube has taught me lol 😂. I’ve put in two new toilets, four sinks, flooring in the living room and kitchen, two double pane windows, tore down paneling to put in sheet rock, tile my kitchen backsplash, painted my kitchen cabinets, used boat paint on my countertops lol 😂, and removed and replaced kitchen cabinets to fit new stainless steel appliances. I was proud of myself removing the kitchen cabinets! It was HARD. I had it done before my husband got home 😂. He was shocked. I had him check to make sure everything was screwed into studs correctly. Now I’m about to replace carpet in the bedrooms, remodel the whole master bedroom and bathroom, and get electrical done for a generator. I don’t mess with stuff that could burn my mobile home down lol 😂. My husband replace the ceiling fans and lights but NOT ME lol 😂. You can do it! I homeschool and do projects. I ALWAYS research, make a supply list, check and double check my plans, and then I start a project. I’ve made my mobile home into a nice place for less than a stick built home. Yes it took patience but patience is less than a lifetime of house notes!

Very nice. The only thing I would change is painting the window trim white to match the inserts. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it will make. Also spraying a coat of CHP base white on the ceiling would also make a big difference.

Hey there is nothing wrong with a trailer fix it up spruce it up and make it a home no matter the price tag it's your mansion to you! People look down on trailers cause well trailer parks gave them a bad look. It's how you treat it that matters it's a roof over your head stay blessed sir happy to see you living well. Glad you made your home your personal sanctuary 👏😄

If you don't want to remove the trim between the sheet rock panels, just caulking between the trim and wall makes for your paint job looking much smoother. You don't get those areas where the paint goes under the trim and then blank spaces making it look uneven. Caulk the edges of any moldings too. It looks way better after paint.

Good for u! Looks great! Over time I want to add solid wood doors and barn doors. I’ll also trim the windows out 👍 Always realize there’s others who would give anything just to live in a mobile home! American values and HGTV has told us to be ashamed of living in these homes.

We have a wind zone 3 Deervalley single wide. I chose that because of hurricanes in Louisiana. Otherwise I’d have picked the cheapest rectangle box on the lot hahah. I don’t want to be house poor all my life. No thanks.

Once we taped over where the strips were, our mobile home FELT like a home and not a trailer! Drywall primer lets you paint over the wallboard. (Cutting crown molding sucks!!) Enjoyed the video!

I love this! You made this room look spectacular! I think the only additional thing I would do is paint the windows white. It would really add a little more brightness, but that’s probably just my own preference. I know a lot of people like the look of a wood finish
