To be fare, All ak trigger reset tangs will mushroom eventually over time to a certain point but will stop. Yes, even the imports. The ALG will most deff speed that up. Can it cause a problem? almost never, but if it does, 1 min with a file can fix it. As far as the malfunctions, I think Americans are still a few years behind reverse engineering the ak without having so many issues.

Have an Arsenal SLR at 15-16K rounds without a change of bolt, and no damage/malfunctions, including the addition of the ALG later in its life. I picked up a 5.56 PSA AK to give it a test, but don't have anything like that many rounds on it. I don't have a huge amount of faith in PSA having seen enough of their stuff locally, but we'll see.

Some times i would vomit over 10 times a day and i didnt have the energy to shoot much. Up until a few months ago, i had pretty much given up hope of getting better. I spent a lot of time distracting myself with your content and brass facts as well. Watching you guys has motivated me to try to salvage my health and get back to taking classes and larping/training. That's the joke about the AK platform: he didn't. As Valentin Vlasenko, founder of SAG and lead designer of original AK-12 proto and AKV-521 pointed out, AKs are only cheap in batches of millions; easy to use thanks to literal man-years of development and testing; and reliable with proper metallurgy, machining and QC. This is a weapon developed in a hyper-industrialist regime hell-bent on taking over the world, who could afford setting up multiple city-sized factories for final assembly, continent-spanning logistic trains for parts and entire university departments dedicated to marginal improvements in each step. Modern AK market is standing on the shoulders of giants so large that y'all think it's just ground. That's why the only good AKs are either ones made in the same Soviet-built factories on same tooling to same standards as when Mikhail Timofeevitch was alive, or the ones made by boutique shops with hand-picked parts (mostly from those same factories) at 2-5x a price of a basic AR. Middle ground is steadily evolving from "trash" to "there's a little something wrong with it", but it has a long way to go.

@hellcy7237
@hellcy7237 13 күн бұрын
@ AKs normally are made overgassed, its part of what gives them their legendary reliability. If you then just toss a can on it'll be extra overgassed so you really want to also get a KNS piston kit. Add onto that the 14x1LH threads meaning you probably need an adapter, the long stroke gas piston w/ reciprocating charging handle being loud AF and you kinda lose a lot of the benefits of suppression while it still ends up being expensive and complicated. It's still better but if you're not aware of those things then it can quickly become a massive headache. Also lack of good subsonic 762x39 doesnt help either

Sample size of 1, but here it goes. 10" GF3, 6.5K rounds, most with AKDEMIA Darkness, no issues with factory trigger, or barrel. It has been cleaned twice, both times due to unsuspected use of corrosive ammo. Rear bolt deformation is about the same as on your sample and is not progressing. PSA dogleg rail was cross threaded from factory, after fixing that no issues with zero shift.

Unrelated to round count but since you mentioned triggers, old import AK's like the Romanian SAR's would have trigger slap or trigger slip with combloc spec triggers from Cugir in them. I wager other countries of origin had similar issues but never saw any mention of it personally. I haven't bought a gun in years let alone another AK but the old go-to trigger every importer or retailer would put into the rifle was the Tapco G2. (It was one of the few Tapco products that actually worked.) I don't know why PSA is so dead set on these ALG triggers, the G2 has never given me any problems and I wager its cheaper to procure. (15$ G2 vs 120$ ALG looking at the prices here. And AR buyers will call an AK owner a fool for paying 900 or more for an import AK, lol.)

x39 is now too expensive to shoot for this old man. I can't believe it was 18 cents in 2019 (Oct) compared to where it is now. in mid 2019 we hit 12 year lows on ammo pricing. SG Ammo was advising all their customers to buy what they wanted or needed every week via email. Many accused Sam of over-selling the 12 year low pricing thing. Then the Flu happened and Sam looked like a genius. 18 cents!!! Dang I miss the old days

I took it to Redbeard Gunworks near Corpus Christi, TX to have it assembled with an LBE G3 trigger and all sorts of JMac Customs “Boujie Tanodized” goodies. Also had the other parts cerakoted bronze, and the receiver cerakoted with a custom “Desert Multistache” camo pattern. I’ve gotten plenty of compliments from fellow AK goons, and I’ve shot pretty well with it at recent Kalash Bash and Lethal Weapons TX events using the iron sights.

I have a pretty old at this point GF3 with about 3000ish rounds through it (measuring in tuna cans) and haven't had very many issues. Its not pretty and there are some weird wear patterns but it keeps chugging every time I decide to dig it out. I also more recently bought one of the GF4 builders kits with the 14.7 pin and weld and built it out and really like it. Noticeably smoother and the fit seems a bit better but haven't shot too much out of it yet, maybe 200 rounds. Both have ALG triggers at this point and I think one of the things about the AK is that things just need fitment a lot more than ARs and we Americans are not used to that. Both ALG triggers needed some filing to get working right and the Attero arms mount on both needed the same. Its very different than the "just bot it on" that the AR enjoys. My inherited Izhmash heavy barreled RPK thing has similar wear patters in a lot of the same wear patterns (and factory file marks) after an unknown amount of rounds so I feel like its fine

I have a PSA 101 I bought February of 2024. I’ve put ~1,200 rounds through it so far. The last 5-600 have been suppressed once I was able to get one of Rearden’s new AK flash hiders. I haven’t had any issues so far. No unusual wear, no cracks, no issues of any kind. I bought 5 PSA 5.56 AK mags with it & they’ve worked well also. Something I’ve noticed in the comments of every PSA AK video are they fall into 2 categories. Either people like me with no issues who have had mostly or all positive experiences with PSA. Or the gun was a problem from the start & while PSA may have fixed the issue they didn’t keep the gun. Not sure what that means, if it means anything, just noticed most anecdotes fall into one of those categories. I can’t say my PSA will last 10k rounds but that’s not what i bought it for. If the world ends I have a Geissele URGI for that. I bought the PSA because I wanted a 101-style rifle to shoot for fun & PSA was the only company currently making what I wanted. Still are as far as I know.

You should look at cutting the front sight base and running an OCCAM defense rail to shave a bunch of weight off the front and effectively free float the barrel in the process….you can still use the side rail with an ALG mount if you want additional space for a magnifier, or turn an LPVO mount backwards and they’ll be enough rail space that way too.

I’ve had a lot of problems with the PSA AKs I had in the past. My GF3 had a lot of issues, mainly it was so over gassed the bolt was smacking the rear trunnion with so much force it was mushrooming the rear of the carrier and bolt. I got rid of that gun pretty fast and bought an import. Now I have a little over 25 AK variants most of which are Russian Veprs and Arsenals.

Well, I have a GF5, which is currently sitting at about 1,600-1,700 rounds, mostly steel case, with some brass in there as well. I've tried multiple mags, and while the Croatian mags that are designed to lock open on empty malfunctioned on almost every single round, the Bulgarian polymer, Russian surplus, and Pmags have all been flawless in that time. I have had one malfunction with the rifle other than the Croat mags. I was using the mag it came with, which was one of the PSA mags, but I don't think it was a mag issue. As a frame of reference, my AK is a GF5 with the nutmeg laminate furniture, and it's in mostly stock configuration. All I've added is a sling. Mine came shortly after the rebrand to Soviet Arms, and I think they reset the serial numbers, since mine is number 3,000 and change.

I have a low serial number GF3 that's past 8k rnds no issues. I bought a newer Gf5 and it couldn't make it thru one mag without issues. It was bursting primers and debris from the primer were getting stuck in the firing pin channel not allowing the firing pin to move anymore. Firing pin channel ended up being too large and I sold it as fast as I could. I kept the ALG trigger and modded saftey before selling though lol.

I never understood leaving the mushrooming on the bolt carrier tail . I just file off the mushrooming . I understand hardness differences which causes the mushrooming but if the mushrooming allowance failures either by binding on the hammer , recoil spring indention , or mushrooming chipping off and falling into trigger group causing issues. All can be removed by filing it off. This still allows to see if it mushrooms later.

I've had one of the early plum AK105s and it worked great for the ~500rds of 5.45 I shot through it, the big reason to go with PSA over an import (aside from the obviou$) is that as far as I've seen they're gassed properly, like minorly overgassed but not the AK standard of beating itself to death slowly. I think buying any AK right now is already a stretch, even as a fun gun. Once ammo gets sorted out more even 5.45 could come back, but no Soviet cartridge will ever be that cheap again.

It’s funny that you mention getting an ALG trigger to fix the trigger not resetting. I’ve bought 2 ALG triggers (one QMS and one ACT) for my ARs in the last few months and neither would reset out of the box in an FDE Aero Milspec lower. Found the culprit to be rough finishing on the disconnector hook, easily fixed with a couple passes from a file but not what I’d expect from ALG.

I'm about 3k round into my gf3 psa 104. Mine does have the alg and the carrier deformation stopped about 2k rounds in. I didn't experience any malfunctions aside from the roll pin on the alg trigger walking out which made the saftey impossible to engage until it was repaired. Compared to my import guns the psa is somewhere between my wasrs and my slr107s. I'd buy it over the zastava stuff that's currently available from a dealer. I'm not overly impressed, but the gun is much better than I expected it to be. It functions and stays in one piece. It's not as smooth as my veprs but it's been as reliable as my wasrs. The fit and finish is a couple steps to below the arsenals. I bought this gun to beat on because imports are becoming collectable.

5000 is a good round count to see if something is reliable enough like most budget Ars/AK you'll see different part wear around that round count Bad AKs the deformation of trunnions and bolt/ headspace is the main concern then how long a non hammer forged chrome lined barrel will last but if you got a foreign AK most those issues aren't a concern until 30k+ rounds On Ars you just need spare parts no matter what I've seen high quality bolts break the lugs off around 5-7 k rounds- 10k if your not so harsh on the system and beyond that direction impingement gas system fails before the barrel gets worn out usually but atleast you can change things without a press etc but parts will break more often and 416- 4140 barrel budget Ars use won't last long at all even PSA 4150 chrome moly vanadium barrels don't last that long before you see groupings open up dramatically, more detents and springs to worry about on top of buffer spring,gas system, firing pin,bolt, ejectors, extractors etc🤷🏼 ARs are one of those Lego guns you have to maintain more often and change parts to keep it in optimal shape A well built ak will keep chugging with very little maintenance to a higher round count without major parts needed to be swapped, recoil spring,hammer spring, barrel clean and firing pins Ejector usually last a lifetime and very little do I see extractors sheer.

i’ve got just the regular gf3 psak. it came with the full magpull zhukov furniture, hand guard and stock, and grip. i initially set it up with a lantac muzzle break, magpull handstop, and a ak master side rail topped with a sig romeo 5; it too had the psa alg ak trigger. probably ran about 5-6k rounds with it like that and only one malfunction. no repetitive double feeds, FTE’s, light strikes.. none of that. the malfunction was a failure to feed, so could’ve been the magazine as well. plus i remember it being a very hot humid summer day, it was towards the end of my time there and i was running it hard. i’ve since then removed the rail and just irons, the height overbore was a bit dramatic, but i also struggled to keep my dot on but that’s not the ak’s problem. i now have about 11-12k rounds in the gun. and not a single malfunctions between then. the trigger has yet to budge and has honestly been one of the nicer standard triggers i’ve ever had the experience to shoot.
