The UBR gen 2 you can move the cheek rest and extend further than a normal stock. Also the storage fits an extra bolt and bore snake

I love the STR, thing is fat, locks in tight and feels almost like an improved fixed stock. Works well with LPVOs and longer barrels. Battery compartment doubles for medicine and skittles.

Was legitimately surprised how low it wound up... It's like a CTR, but more comfortable. The storage is a 'take it or leave it', but it's largely a tack-on feature they put there because was already room from the cheek rests.

I enjoy my Fab Defense (Israeli Magpul) GL-CORE stocks both in the mini, but preferably in the larger format. Popular with Russian SOF on their modified AKs. Good weight, build quality, included QD sling points, tight with no rattle and an optional cheek riser. Which although not needed on ARs it can be nice to have on buffer tube stock non-AR type rifles. It feels like a worthy competitor to the Magpul CTR. I like and use them both, but for whatever reason Fab Defense doesn't have the same market penetration in the US.

To each his own, I love both my ACS and UBRs. I have an UBR on an AR10 SASS its heavy but so is an AR10. ACS has great cheek feel. I like the wide cheek area. The storage door thing shouldn't even be an issue. You can remove them.

STR has a bigger shelf on the bottom for a rear bag, an arguably better cheek weld (based on face shape), and can fully close on an A5 buffer tube. I like it for those reasons the most.

The large cheek weld area on the SL-S stock makes it the best. Battery storage is also nice if your gun is front heavy.

Agreed, I don't even use the storage compartments of the SL-S, but the wider profile/cheekweld of it lines up perfect for me with sight line. It's not terribly heavy either, maybe a couple ounces more than an SL. After years of testing different stocks, I put one on all my AR's heavy and light, and it is the best geometry for getting on target fast (for me).

An added benefit of the CTR and SL stocks is you can buy Arisaka bag riders and 90-degree buttpad addons for those two models, which is useful for SPR precision shooter guys.

As niche specific as the PRS stock is, I think it should be higher because it does the job so well that it's the standard stock used for almost every DMR style build from budget home builds up to factory $3,000 builds. The PRS stock also has a squishier softer stickier butt pad than the B5 that is also competing in the same market space for nearly the same price.

CTR, ACS and ACS-L are my go-to stocks. I also like Mission First Tactical's stocks, mainly their lightweight model. MFT stocks are the tightest of ANY stocks right out the gate. I have yet to try Magpul's SL series of buttstocks, but that will be remedied here, real soon!👍

@@BCarnes be advised: the ACS & ACS-L were primarily made for longer than standard m4 buffer tubes, specifically A5 length buffer tubes. The storage and QD point locations were an afterthought. I personally don't have a problem with the QD point and location, it keeps the attachment hard points away from my shoulder. I don't mind it as much as everyone else. As a matter of fact, the ACS-L is my overall #1 favorite stock and for many reasons others overlook, and my use for them is pretty straight forward.

I think its worth mentioning that a lot of rifles nowadays use buffer tube stocks, even if they themselves aren't ARs. Actually, the Remington 700 is a great example as Magpul sells a stock for the entire gun with the PRS or PRS-lite as part of the kit. This makes me think that the point of the PRS is to be a precision rifle stock (huh, is that why its called PRS) developed specifically for the Remington 700 or similar rifles.

SL all the way. Recently switched from the BCM gunfighter to the SL. SL is perfect. SL-K is just a slightly smaller version of the SL and actually is pretty great for your smaller frame larpers like your wife or girlfriend you don’t have.

The only tiny tool I found to be important to keep on a gun is lens wipes. Dirty lens are frustrating and makes expensive glass pointless, but just being outside in shitty low 40s drizzle all day everything fogs over you straight up can't shoot, you can wipe your finger over it every 30 seconds and look through smudges or you can carry lens wipes with anti fog properties.

Regarding the ACS Stock. I use a layered approach for storing tools and items in there, first! I put a layer of cheese, followed by a layer of thin pasta, then a layer of sauce, then a piece of french toast. Generous tamps of powdered sugar in there, And finally, a picture of Chris Costa during Magpul 2010 days to keep everything fresh.

I use the ACS-L on an AR-10 set up for long range. The locking mechanism is tight and all I put in the storage is a lens cloth.

I have an ACS stock. Yes, that was a mistake. I use the little door compartment to hold glass wipes and that's it. I used to keep CR123's in the tubes until I realized all I was doing was murdering them in heat & cold for no reason. (Pro tip, I stuffed a piece of pluck foam in the bottom to keep the batteries from rattling). Gave up on that, but I haven't been assed enough to spend more money to change the stock. I have an SL on my 5.45 AK. No complaints.

I like the UBR just for the counter balance and the fact that it doesn't make any noise, which is handy for hunting. That said, having used and abused it for years with multiple uppers, it has its issues. I personally hate every AR stock out there. The best thing they could do for the UBR is add threaded holes for a worm screw in the bottom to limit its ridiculously overlong LOP to your own preference(I did this to mine). Next shave three or four ounces off and change from A5 to carbine to shorten it up. Lastly delete the goofy 3/8 inch thick QD end plate. I also agree the storage door is pretty stupid, but it is optional, and some of us gotta store crayons somewhere. Given I don't use the storage door on mine, I'll point out that when I found it the other day, the stock has darkened significantly over time compared to the unused door(FDE).

I honestly like the SL-S more than any of the others. I find the leaf springs of the SL series keep the stock tighter and rattle less over time than the friction lock of the CTR. I also find the extra cheek weld more useful for me over the regular SL. Plus the extra weight keeps the rifle more balanced. I don’t even use the battery storage.

Unpopular opinion and potentially fudd worthy, my favorite AR stock is the "American Tactical Roger's SuperStock"... it's a mouthful for no reason. I believe Wilson Combat has exclusive rights to its design currently and sells it on their website. Reasonably priced, QD points, an adjustable locking mechanism, one of the lightest available. I love it.

I actually love the UBR….but not because of some Socom rigidity bullshit. I like it because it’s got some weight to it, and I usually run it on AK’s. The extra weight balances out a gun that normally nose dives, due to the weight of running a piston system. On a front heavy gun, I don’t want a lightweight stock. I do remove the side panels…I don’t store shit in it.

I used to be a fan of the STR storage stocks for the battery storage, but as I religiously replace my optic and light batteries every 6 months, I realized this was a waste of space and weight. I also realized that I never moved the position of the stocks from the position that I like, so the ability to adjust the length of pull was also a waste. I am now running the MOE fixed carbine stock on 3 of my rifles with the PRS extended butt pad and the length of pull is perfect for me. I also don't use QD sling swivels anymore and just run the sling through the rear slot. Lighter, quieter, and simpler is what I am interested in now.

Just because Magpul markets a stock for storage,. Doesn't mean you have to use it as such. After trying many different stocks. I've come to like the STR. I like that there is more surface to cheek. It comes with a QD that you can reverse, and a locking feature that doesn't have any wiggling. I don't use the storage at all. Tolos for re-zeroing, repair/replace, and batteries are in my bag,

PRS isn't just for AR15s. It is heavily used for competition bolt guns with an AR receiver extension and semi auto precision rifles in 308. For that application I would rank it at least A tier. That is what it was designed for.

The STR is just a CTR with more cheek space tho? If you don't like the storage, nobody's forcing you to use it, but the added surface area is way more stable, and comfortable. The PRS stock isn't for run and gun work. It's in the name. Getting a stable, and consistent position behind your glass is essential as you reach out further and further. It's a great solution for this on AR10 platforms, in particular.

I love the UBR stocks. I have them on my AR 15 and my AR 10. I put thousands of rounds through both and I found it a very solid and comfortable. The extra weight reduces the felt recoil especially on the 7.62 rifle.

I've never understood the MOE stock. It has always been a slightly cheaper CTR, but is demonstrably worse than a ctr in every way. Also, the CTR only rattles if you get the wrong stock for your buffer tube and/or you buffer tube is out of spec.

I bought a UBR for my .308 AR solely for the way it looked. I like that it’s a little different looking. Are there better stocks? ABSOLUTELY. Do I use the storage? I try to find anything sensical to stuff in there and still find it unneeded. Simpler is better when it comes to stocks imo, just build them strong and do the basic things better than anybody else. But if you have a fun and different vision in your mind for your rifle, maybe have some fun with the other options. Especially if the rifle in question isn’t your main squeeze.

I'm totally going to be that guy. The UBR is my favorite stock of all time. The ability to pull my rifle out of the case with the stock collapsed and rip it to the perfect, pre set length of pull makes me happy ever time I do it. It's a minor thing but I really like it. I also like the way it changes the balance of my rifle. Best. Stock. Ever.

UBR hear me out. It’s the only adjustable one that eliminates the gap between the buffer tube and butt stock. Every other one pinches and rips out beard hair with ever AR-10 recoil. I was actually developing a flinch from hair being ripped out.

I tried many of these stocks on the Sig low profile buffer tube adapter for the MCX. First of all, the BCM Mod 0 rattled in all directions and sucked the worst. The ACS-L (when locked) is good, but the SL was the winner. I kept the ACS-L for scoped applications. Got extended butt pads because I like a little more cushion for the 7.62 variant.

CTR>MOE I love my ACS, it has a great cheek weld area, storage, and helps balance out my MK12 Mod H type SPR barreled upper. MOE Rifle. This one, I _want_ to like it, I really do, but I bought a Cavalry Arms A1 stock and its just better. Maybe for a DMR type rifle since it has a better cheek weld and QD spots, but for my classic rifle build the A1 stays on it.

One potential advantage of the storage stocks is the wider but sloped cheek rest could, for some people, be more comfortable. You don't have to use the storage tubes to benefit from them.

I use the BCM stock so I don't have to click it twice like the CTR, it'll just lock tightly where I put it. MOE is just a CTR with an extra clip to make it work like my BCM.

Magpul SL was my favorite AR stock until I tried the B5 Sopmod. Cheek weld on the B5 is perfect for me and no issues with fitment or build quality..

I'm was a fan of B5 sopmod stocks but the SL-K stock sold me over. The smaller size works so well while wearing plate carriers or pack straps it's hard going to any other stock because of that.

I have a bcm stock on my rifle and honestly it’s not too bad. She’s a bit wide but the cheek weld is solid and it doesn’t rattle or shake. If anything it has that octopus grip on the buffer tube and holy shit does it take some muscle to adjust if you put it all the way in. But ergonomically it’s fine imo

I got the MOE stock out of a $10 parts bit at my local shop and i actually dremeled out one of the side holes to accept an mlok mount qd swivel and it works amazingly. Wouldnt recommend it though as the polymer tends to gum up the bits pretty fast and its not worth it savings wise unless you have a bunch of junk grinding bits laying around and 45 minutes.

The CTR wobbliness/rattling can be easily fixed under 20 seconds by disassembling the lock mechanism and bending the metal pin to tighten the locking.

I have a UBR stock on my SBR (to even out the weight from the suppressor) and the only downside to it is that no one makes an aftermarket cheek piece that has more cheek weld. I'm thinking of learning 3d design just so I can print one lol

I have the STR (came with my lower), don't even try to put CR123 batteries in it anyway, they will either rattle or become so stuck in the back of the tube that you will never remove them. Stock is great though. It has a quirk in that it's really difficult to pull the detent pin to remove the stock, but then again how often do you ever need to take your stock off? I don't notice the compartment... L O B E S... giving more cheek weld than the regular MOE or CTR, but your miliage could vary, everyone has different bodies and techniques. Great stock, a morbillion times better than the classic M4 stock, just don't put batteries in it if you value your sanity. Go for the CTR though, I would recommend.

Love the video, but I’d argue the PRS stock is superb, it’s just that it’s made for bench rest long range precision shooting. The adjustments are for that purpose, and the weight is irrelevant in that scenario, you could even argue it’s a benefit when you have a 24” barrel on there. It’s not a typical AR15 stock, it’s more AR10 stock for 6.5 Creedmoor and the like. Granted some AR15’s are setup for that, but no doubt it’s the best stock made for its intended purpose. The SL-S is my favorite stock. On one side I keep my NFA papers rolled up, on the other I keep two batteries with the soft foam earplugs mixed in which eliminates any rattle from them. To each their own, that’s why companies make variations.

My Ruger came with the SL and K2 grip and mlok rail. Seems pretty nice so i don't think i need any upgrades to the furniture besides maybe a different charging handle and the Magpul foregrip i added

I don’t really get the issue with having storage stocks especially for batteries. I just throw a few back there and used paper to fill the extra space. Noise is gone, i have a few extra batteries if i need, and it brings the center mass of the rifle a tad bit rearward. May not help my in the wilderness but if i need a battery at the range I’ll have them

Oooh, do grips next! Pretty much agree with this whole ranking, though I would have put the SL into S tier next to the CTR. Replaced a B5 with a BCM and ran that for forever, one day tried an SL on a complete whim, and it was a game changer. It just... works on a different level for me. As far as beard hair plucking, I think that's just your AR deepening its bond with you. I've thought about throwing a strip of 100mph tape over the gap but never actually tried it.

I would have rated the SL and the SL-K a notch higher. The CTR stock will still rattle after you use it for a while, the SL basically never will. The only downfall for the SL for me is that it’s less compact when retracted because it’s made for A5 buffer tubes.

I just fixed the MOE wobble by wadding up some electrical tape on the buffer tube. Literally no problems, don't care about the QD slot. I never use QDs, saved 20 bucks in all. Elitists can seethe

Wrap cr123 batteries in electrical tape and the don’t rattle in the acs (extra electrical tape can also be super useful). I also keep a small rechargeable battery for my gps in it so I don’t have loose small shit in my kit. Also the acs comes with a qd cup and it doesn’t stick out past the cheek weld. Love you hop!

The SL-K Is perfect for me using a plate carrier, the smaller butt pad fits perfectly in the shoulder pocket without hitting the edge of the plate, granted the no QD aspect sucks a bit, but It works fine either way 👍

The weird thing about some Magpul rounded stocks (MOE, CTR, etc) is that a couple just DIG into my checkbone. Seriously, some of these stocks are literally painful to me with the way they touch my cheekbone.
