The Century Arms AP5 is simply a 1960's-70's styled earlier MP5 clone when the PTR-9ct is the later MP5A2 equivalent which I can get complete replacement parts for from HK Parts. That's another story for the AP5. Also you'll notice their 1/2x28 MP5/SP5 thread caps are are too short for the PTR-9ct because PTR allows for extra threads for less chance off suppressor walk off and minor detection to help prevent baffle/end cap strike. You can even get smooth (metal, black) replacement 1/2x28 thread caps online for your PTR-9ct from GSL Technology, Inc. that fit perfectly and allow for o-ring fit and full thread protection. Cutting the Ring of the Front sight up has been done since the late 90s when the Aimpoint 9000 were started to be used by Units like Delta and Team Six on their MP5s. Way back in the 90s there were a couple of companies that made Mounts that would allow Tactical Lights and Lasers to attach to a Mount that would go on the Cocking Tube Cap with the Replacement of the Cap with a Cap that had mounting points for one or two items on either side of the Cocking Tube. I do not know if those mounts are STILL being made but they should be available in the Secondary Market.

I also added a Moore Advanced Dynamics (M.A.D.) Moore Advanced X-tractor (M.A.X) for the drop-in bolt head. Added a MI rail with a MagPul AFG-2, and topped it with a Trij MRO and GG&G QR mount. At the front of the MI bottom rail, I have Lasermax green Spartan laser/light. SB Tactical brace and KCI mags. I also have a couple HK drums and a CGSgroup qube that I can don very quickly. Agree with alot of what your saying especially the price. However you should consider its intended use before trying to tacticool the snot out of it. Concealment and maneuverability, it's also mostly a secondary and/or CQC engagement option. Slapping hardware all over it is counterproductive to the footprint. Smooth edges and lack of rails to snag on your gear. the funny thing about 3 point slings is that they are technically useful, just only under a very VERY specific context. The SAS for example and Hong Kong's SDU. Basically it's for when you really want 1 point slings on super short weapons with stocks collapsed for maximum maneuverability, but need temporary 2 point sling level of security because you plan on doing a LOT of high angle work quietly. Which makes sense why basically ONLY those 2 groups ever used them in any serious manner and in the case of the SDU still do. Basically any call serious enough for a swat team like entity in Hong Kong is going to involve some rappelling work. I Think 9 Hole did a good video explaining the shooting technique the SAS and SDU use with the 3 point. Incidentally though, WHY DOES NOONE MAKE A 1 POINT THAT SKIPS THE STUPID BUNGIE?! I dont own a PTR 9 and probably never will but I still think it's a capable platform for certain roles. I say capable, not optimal. I own a AR-V from PSA and I'm not saying that's optimal but it's better suited to function in all situations more than a PTR 9 is. It's important that each individule knows why they're buying a certain firearm, what that certain firearm can and cannot do, what niche are you trying to fill and does this firearm fill that niche the best or at least understanding the downsides for that choice. Seems like the biggest complaint is the roller delayed blowback system. Its cumbersome to reload and takes up a whole lot of real estate on the gun. If those are it's only weaknesses then dont try and force the gun into a situation where you need those as mission critical. Play to the guns advantages, not its disadvantages. Very low recoil system and high reliability, hell, aperantly NASA has an MP5 that has over 1M rounds down the barrel with relatively little maintenance. Could an AR9 do that? Who knows but an MP5 DID do that and as for recoil, to some people that's a big deal, less recoil theoretically allows for faster and more accurate follow up shots, if that's what you need then maybe this platform is the right platform for you. An AR9 is going to be lighter, fill more roles, give you more options, more support, all at a lower cost than the PTR 9 will. For 99 percent of people looking to buy a 9mm PCC an AR9 will suite them perfectly, but if you need the advantages that the PTR 9 offers and are willing or able to deal with its drawbacks, then that's the choice for you. This philosophy can be applied to litterally any firearm when comparing one option to another. Do research and find out. Be realistic and think before you make a purchase you might regret.

God I love his delivery on these reviews. Good to hear someone with logic and reason talk about MP5/Clones

I mean, yeah it’s for some ergonomic issues, but I still prefer it to the MPX after shooting both suppressed.

Listen, the two guns I normally keep staged for home defense are a Daniel Defense PDW300 and a Tavor X95. With those being my primaries, why did a buy a PTR MP5K clone and a Kalashnikov KP-9 Vityaz? They’re cool. Full stop. I like them. The Vityaz gets throw in the truck and bounces around in the woods. The MP5K fits great on the motorcycle or in my work bag. It’s also a fantastic conversation piece.

I loved the G3 and MP5 in all the movies and games when I was a kid, and would love to own one. However due to the no bolt hold open and other reloading variables with those models I just got a more standard rifle instead. Why blow 4k on a H&K MP5 with no bolt hold open and all that when you can get an MPX for under 2k?.

I see your well reasoned argument. As a counter-argument I offer you "HK slap!". I rest my case :3 (I don't have a PTR, but I do have an MKE T-94. Is it the most practical PCC? No, probably not. My Cx4 Storm is probably more practical, at least it locks open on the last round and has an easily accessible mag release and bolt release. But if I want to have some fun at the range dropping steel plates, the "MP5" is the 1st choice every time)

I can vouch for the KCI Gen2s as well. I got 10 30s for my 9CT and 10 20s for my 9KT. I originally had 10 30s and 10 20s from ETS, but they seem a lot more difficult to insert than the metal KCI mags.

This is the equivalent to modernizing an F1 car from the 80’s to race today. Carry on.

Well in the 80's they didn't have ground effect? you probably can get away with it if they make the old shit in modern machines.

@@BigSlanko gas delayed, di or piston 9mm AR would be fun too. It would have problems like the mp5, just different ones.

Ran MP5s with Law Enforcement and Military for many years. Once I looked into a personal SMG/PCC platform, I went through all the available sources on the market (AR/AK, B&T, H&K, CZ, etc and finally choose the SIG MPX K gen 2. Full Ambidextrous controls, height correct rail that goes from rear to front, switched from the SIG Handguard for the Midwest M-Lok handguard, Magpul K2 grip, BAD-ASS Ambidextrous safety, SureFire M340C Mini ScoutLight and SB collapsible brace. I run an EOTech XPS3 and my PVS-14 works perfect with it.

I’m watching this video 2 years after you made it and there has been more MP5 products to come to market as well as the cheap MKE imports from century. I haven’t had any problems finding ways to modernize mine and none of it is costing any more than AR15 parts. The reload is by far its biggest drawback but man it shoots so well I can deal with it. I have a surefire vampire light and a holosun IR laser mounted on a Midwest handguard with a modbutton dual lead mounted on top of the cocking tube right behind the front sight. Really pretty close to the way I setup my AR15’s, and I’m doing this with a K model. So far I really like it.

I have tried a few different red dots on my 9CT. I keep going back to the irons. So I went the opposite direction and picked up the classic light in the forehand grip and I am rolling with that setup. I love it. Not everything in my safe needs new tech. somethings are just better left as is.
