The Century Arms AP5 is simply a 1960's-70's styled earlier MP5 clone when the PTR-9ct is the later MP5A2 equivalent which I can get complete replacement parts for from HK Parts. That's another story for the AP5. Also you'll notice their 1/2x28 MP5/SP5 thread caps are are too short for the PTR-9ct because PTR allows for extra threads for less chance off suppressor walk off and minor detection to help prevent baffle/end cap strike. You can even get smooth (metal, black) replacement 1/2x28 thread caps online for your PTR-9ct from GSL Technology, Inc. that fit perfectly and allow for o-ring fit and full thread protection. As someone who has only customized one gun (my SKS with a polymer chasis so it can take magazines as well as not get unbearably hot in the summer times), I can say that the MP5 when I shot it full auto at a range was the most pleasant and fun shooting experience with a gun I've ever had. It was so smooth. But really, other than that, owning one which I am getting myself a clone version of it, is simply aesthetic. It's just so badass. It's badass, the history of it is badass, and the iconic nature of it is badass. It will never truly be replaced, only wane usefulness as it is seen as less modular. I can't imagine a world where one armed force isn't using a MP5 or PCC at some point.

I run a Mod Button on my PTR at the 6 o'clock using an offset mount so it sits sort of between the 6 and 9 (nice) position. Works okay to actuate it with my pointer finger and leaves the left side completely open for IR if I want to try in the future. Realistically though in 2021, I think any 9mm PCC/Sub gun is too compromised to be truly practical. Pistol chassis setups are smaller with similar performance and short 300blk builds are way more effective at the pewpew part and not much bigger. Because of this I went PTR because MP5s are plain just cooler than AR9s, Scorpions, etc

Agree with alot of what your saying especially the price. However you should consider its intended use before trying to tacticool the snot out of it. Concealment and maneuverability, it's also mostly a secondary and/or CQC engagement option. Slapping hardware all over it is counterproductive to the footprint. Smooth edges and lack of rails to snag on your gear. I'm glad it's become dated enough to finally hit the market myself, it may be a plinker in modern times but the price really is $700 more than it should be.

I also added a Moore Advanced Dynamics (M.A.D.) Moore Advanced X-tractor (M.A.X) for the drop-in bolt head. Added a MI rail with a MagPul AFG-2, and topped it with a Trij MRO and GG&G QR mount. At the front of the MI bottom rail, I have Lasermax green Spartan laser/light. SB Tactical brace and KCI mags. I also have a couple HK drums and a CGSgroup qube that I can don very quickly. JP is making a roller delayed 9mm AR15 that takes Glock mags, but it’s expensive and I haven’t read an actual review of them yet. I’d be more interested in it if it took Scorpion mags, just because they are double feed and much easier to load. They can also lock the gun open when it’s empty and are curved to better feed the tapered 9mm. The fact that they are cheap doesn’t hurt either.

@@cletustheslackjawedyokel6083 agreed I would start with the scorpion mags. If this thing isn’t vaporware, you could just get the upper and maybe get a PSA lower and work from there.

@@cletustheslackjawedyokel6083 9mm is tapered? Pretty Sure they are straight walled.
@cletustheslackjawedyokel60832 жыл бұрын
@@FXIIBeaver it’s only about .013” but it’s noticeable. There’s a reason most modern 9mm sub machine guns / PCC have curved mags.

Lol glad I am not the only one that made the mistake of buying an HKPDW brace XD. Good video!

glad to finally see the video but it would've been nice to see how much it would have been improved by a Spuhr or ACR stock

As a several-year owner and upgrader of a 9CT, I agree wholeheartedly with every single thing you said, Hop. I tried almost all the same stuff as you did, with the same MI handguard, and I still constantly reconfigure it to this day. I absolutely love it, because it’s just a stupid nonsensical toy. If I actually needed it, I would utterly hate it.

Enjoyed the video. But I swear it sounds like “well I can’t get curb feelers to work on my Ferrari “. 😁

@Eric M obviously you haven’t driven a 1960 Ferrari. Besides you really can’t appreciate the design without the fun button.

I love your brutal honesty about the mp5, its about time someone said what you said.

The MP5 *was* an excellent gun, but if I were to buy a PCC for practical use, it would dwell around the bottom of my list. Realistically, if the SP5 or the PTR 9 were going for, say, $900-1200, they'd be worth it, but I'd rather buy a Banshee or MPX than waste my time and money on an MP5.

It's probably the cheapest part of the whole gun to replace.

When Sweden put aimpoints on the ak4 (g3) they just cut the entire front sight of and it looks like bubba did it with his angle grinder.

I can vouch for the KCI Gen2s as well. I got 10 30s for my 9CT and 10 20s for my 9KT. I originally had 10 30s and 10 20s from ETS, but they seem a lot more difficult to insert than the metal KCI mags.

If you really wanna run this gun, You are right that the side folder is best. Good call. Best weaponlight solution for this is still the surefire forend with the built in light and tape switch. No Mlok. Trust me. You will love it. Otherwise if you want IR run the little SF or streamlight IR/white/laser combo on a gooseneck. Since it has a rail, Put an AR height red dot on it with a hollow base mount (to allow use of irons) and use a homemade cheek riser of pipe foam insulation and 100mph tape to fix the cheek weld issue. Or no riser, run the red dot lower, and dremel off the top of the front sight hood. Combine with a short 9mm can and 147gr HST it is both fun and useful. All of that being said for a modern application an mp5-k with a side folder run as a pdw is best I think. Sweet little Compact setup. Run a few bailout drills with it side by side with other stuff and you will see. Video it, clock yourself.

I doubt if you will read this due to the age. Incredibly good job. People that buy these do not shoot them to learn the problems. I had a SOT for years and shot the shit out of MP5's. Incredibly reliable. Fucking horrible to actually "use". QUESTION, what about a JMAC 1913 rail and a side folder? You could adjust it up to correct the fucked cheek weld with a optic.

I loved the G3 and MP5 in all the movies and games when I was a kid, and would love to own one. However due to the no bolt hold open and other reloading variables with those models I just got a more standard rifle instead. Why blow 4k on a H&K MP5 with no bolt hold open and all that when you can get an MPX for under 2k?.
