Then Elden Ring all of a sudden has "performance issues" with "FRAMES",gee I wonder why? LMFAO It wouldnt be because,I dunno,ITS ALSO ON THE DAMN PS4 STILL?! Hell theres MANY people that dont know the reason why PS4 users have texture pop ins is due to the fact that HDDs cannot keep up with games made after 2017 and just having an SSD for your PS4 gets rid of them.

I got it calibrated going back and forth (what works for my tv is -2, -5, -3) but see I might want to reduce the highlights a bit more. And while -5 for shadows works great during the day (in game), nights can get pretty dark. However the shimmering is giving me headaches, so I'm playing on an old 1080p projector now in SDR, max 50 nits brightness. (Cinema level). And it's gorgeous on that, no eye strain reading the small fonts either at 92" screen. Much less shimmering down sampled to 1080p. 4K HDR, it's a mess. I had to set data transfer rate to -2 as well since the screen kept randomly blacking out, HDMI not keeping up. 2160p60 4:2:0 is max that it can handle without drops. My projector is 4:4:4 RGB 1080p, same color resolution as 2160p 4:2:0, but much less contrast, no headaches. It has a waveform analysis pop up build in as well, so much easier to calibrate it that way. On the TV it remains guess work :/

The worst thing is, they aren't even trying... They're handed a solution, like the HGIG console level HDR adjustments, allowing us to set Peak-brightness, Max tonemap luminanse, and minimum luminanse. This is all we need to perfectly calibrate our TV, and have the console work it's magic. But of the 60 games I have installed on my PS5, only a very few games utilize the PS5 HDR adjustment. The rest (those with in-game hdr settings) simply bypass what you have calibrated in the HGIG HDR calibration. The calibration screen is not intended to specify exact black or white levels. It's used more like a color grading filter, where it's about the overall look and contrast of the shadows and highlights. The game is not designed to conform to your TV's exact limitations like HGIG. Setting peak highlight to match your tv will considerably reduce contrast, and not look natural. I'm currently using Brightness -2, Shadows -4, and Highlights 0. This results in a very natural looking image, with pretty much no visible highlight clipping in typical gameplay. I'm sure if I measured it, there's stuff being clipped, but there's nothing visible to the human eye. Adjusting to try to minimize absolute clip will not always be the best approach for ideal image quality, if it reduces highlights to an unnaturally dim level. Default shadow settings also leave the image too flat, with not enough contrast, and shadows that are a bit too washed out..
@roncarder892 жыл бұрын
Yea I think your right on this. I've been using -4, -2, 1. Lowering the highlights below 0 makes things take on a dull haziness. There's something off with this though. Vincent's measurements have to be right though. I'm using hgig on lg cx and I'm not seeing a lot of clipping or at least to where its degrading the picture. It must be a really small minute part of the picture that's clipping
@AndyGilleand2 жыл бұрын
@@roncarder89 Exactly. I'm sure 99% of what's clipping is just in the sun, and that's perfectly okay as long as you're still seeing a clear difference between the sky/clouds and the sun. It's more important that the general luminance of the highlights overall looks like it has realistic levels of brightness and contrast to it, and that the gradient from deep and dark shadows to the midtones feels like a natural level of contrast. It's important to note that brightness does affect both shadows and highlights as well, so it's important to go back and forth and adjust them to where it feels most natural to your eyes. I have some HDR color grading experience, as well as HDR calibration experience, and I've seen a ton of HDR content, so I tend to have a good feel for what looks correct, and what doesn't. I don't feel that Vincent's settings will be utilizing the dynamic range all that well, and won't deliver the most natural looking image either. I do think the game could benefit from using the HGIG menus in addition to the menus they already have for full control over every aspect of the image (5 points: black level, shadows, midtones, highlights, and peak nits), but I honestly feel that doing that wouldn't make a HUGE difference in overall image dynamics compared to what we have now.
@BPipkins2 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the insight, Andy. Posts like yours just remind me of how poorly implemented HDR and HDR adjustment screens are in video games. There really needs to be some type of standard practice within the industry in regards to how it’s implemented, because it really is all over the map.
@AndyGilleand2 жыл бұрын
@@BPipkins unfortunately, it's not really realistic to have a perfect standard, because color grading has enough subjective nature to it that people don't always agree with what the user would need to control. why is a first party studio not using console level HDR Settings, i dont get it
@cured_bacon6472 жыл бұрын
Because it was also made on ps4 which doesn’t have hgig. HGiG was also made to try to push the industry to a standard which may or may not catch on.

@LJ-uy9ru2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. When I first started the game and started messing with settings.. I had hgig.. - 2 Brightness and - 3 highlights. But I've been using DTM off - 1 brightness and + 6 highlights and I think I like that better. Either way the game looks really good and I'm off to try Vincent's settings. ✌🏻

Using +2, -8 and 0 on my c1 OLED. However I play it more my q90t qled. The hdr impact is just on another level on the qled. Like whenever I go from the OLED to qled, I'm gobsmacked on how better it looks on the qled. OLED has its moments though where it looks better

@sweedishpie3602 жыл бұрын
@@manuel0578 fun fact, look it up. Even on an OLED, even though there is no blooming, our eyes make it look like there is. I see it a lot on my OLED. Mainly just during loading screens where everything is black and you have a white symbol. Same can be said with a qled. Blooming is only visible in that same screen. Once you play regular content, you don't notice it at all

Hello, to clean the TV, what should we do? Wipe with a dry cloth or spray so that the panel is not damaged, and clean it every once in a while for dust
@HelloSnake2 жыл бұрын
Dry lint free cloth, or apply distilled water to a lint free cloth. Don't spray anything onto the screen.

CX@HGIG So with the -2 and -8 settings e.g. the sun looks completely unrealistic. In real life, you can't look at the sun or see the planet itself with your naked eye. is that really how it should be?
