Got both, the UMX and this one. Live in west Cleveland. Fly the UMX down the street in a 3 baseball field park and have plenty of room. All 3 fields face each other with slightly overlapping outfields so its a pretty big space. I glued cut down micro zip ties to my wing tips to cut down on rash (mimicking the 1.5 tip) and "tied" the gear together with a light rubber band to eliminate the spread that happens after a couple of landings. I've only flown the 1.5 once, well one day. Got about 6 flights in on 2 batteries with a charger at the field (AMA sanctioned Lorian County Radio Control club). I've been out of the hobby for 10+ years and only flew for a few years as it was. The new tech is amazing. Once I saw it worked myself after watching you I felt more comfortable with the stabilization and safe then I did back in the day learning with a trainer! Still doing most of my flying in safe but I am "flipping the switch" more and more each day. I like the real world attitude/perspective of your videos. I've been in clubs in the past with "elitists" in the group, no fun... Anyway old planes are coming out of storage week by week and spring is taking to long to come! Need to remember to use one of your links for a purchase. Been looking at the twin otter you reviewed. Would love to see a review of the Free Wing A6 intruder (motionrc.com). I had 2 1/4 scale plastic Revell A6 models hanging from my ceiling in my teens, banked/staggered like they were flying in formation. Even brought them and hung them in my first apartment. Would love to actually fly one!!! Just got the smaller FMS Fox, just waiting for pay day to get a spectrum AR6 style receiver for it. All the planes I crashed in my first couple of years to me its a no brainer to install these new safe/stabilized receivers. I know its not going to completely eliminate crashes but from my experience so far if you "behave" while using safe it would be pretty hard...

Great video and your camera crew is a great videographer too. Hey Brian your absolutely correct in saying that Lok-Tite damages plastic, it actually makes the plastic very brittle. But there is a great alternative that works very well, it’s not permanent but does a great job at keeping the screws from vibrating loose. I’ll bet your camera crew uses it too, it’s nail polish, any clear nail polish will work and does not react to plastics either. Also people were complaining about the landing gear eventually being torn from the a/c on hard landings, on the Hobby Squawk forum there is a person that has made an upgrade for this issue, it’s a CNC crafted aluminum piece that replaces the plastic portion of where they all seem to break, very inexpensive and works fantastic. Just wanted to throw those tidbits out there for you and others. This was my first a/c and I love it still.

Cool! I've heard of paint, and CA for alternatives to loctite for near plastic, or on plastic parts....but never nail polish. Thanks! I bet the aluminum fairings are cool looking too!

Hey man, just want to thank you for your super helpful video. I started out with a Blade 230SV2 around March and this is my first Plane. I would have done wrong a ton while assembling it. Today I had my maiden flight with her (3200mA 3S Spektrum SMART pack ~ 9min flight time in SAFE mode). It was super fun and I was able to land it without a scratch multiple times on my clubs grass runway (looks like training on RF9 was paying of a bit). If you ever ask yourself again -and I know you do, cause I've seen it^^, who is gona profit from a "in detail 3h video" about a Plane, well it's guys like me. This channel of yours is awesome, keep rockin! Cheers.

Hello Brian and Mrs Megan aka camera crew. I got to help a friend at the field set up that plane. Did it straight by manual it flew fine. But i was nervous about it because wasn't my plane. Told him to make adjustments for his own flying style. Thanks for the video keep flying you guys. As always well done.

Can't believe you are just now buying the turbo Timber it is one of my first airplanes very easy to fly and learn from especially with safe select lots of power very maneuverable

I have to agree with your comments about this being a first timer plane. I got one as my first real plane; I had to replace the prop 3 times and landing springs several times; and I’ve only been out 3 times. And I will also not that, yes, this thing doesn’t turn well in safe mode due to the limits. I’ve been waiting for you to review this one! Love your informative videos. Your sense of humor, especially in your build videos, makes me laugh so hard!

The timing on this video was phenomenal! On Sunday, prior to it's release, I had already spent a couple hours contemplating pulling the trigger because of all the fun I'd been having on my Night Timber X. I’ve been running it on 32003S30 with the 13x6.5 prop and carbon spar because I'm looking for more acrobatic fun without going 3D. However, I found myself still wanting something a little faster with more scale flight capabilities. I was hoping this would check that box and was glad to see that you believe so (...?) on 4S. Picked up a couple 22004S50s to boot. Hoping it's a rocket...faster than my Valiant. I do have other 4S planes, but this landing gear will be phenomenal for winter flying when the ground freezes and there is that stepped in snow after snow that thaws and freezes all uneven over time. Now I can fly during those few month’s without the exceptional fear of landing gear damage on our already uneven grass runway. Some still fly, but that uneven frozen stuff can be worse on landing gear than just hitting asphalt hard. Thank goodness for STOL!! I can even go to local fields. With or without CVD, those are bound to be clear. Plus, the lights…the lights! The TT can be flown till dusk. The NTX a bit later. Great once the sun starts setting around 4pm. Now I just have to figure out how to fit the TT in the car without taking the wings off. The NTX is challenging enough on its own.

I love my timber i run a 4000mah 4s smart battery in mine and i fly pretty much full throttle the whole 6 minute timer i set and she gets pretty warm let it cool down while flying a different plane before putting it back in the air awesome plane

I fly mine on a hrb 3300 4s and live it. I think it needs the extra weight, for me it flies better.

I'm just getting back into flying and trying to learn the settings on the computerized transmitters. This video was great for the setup and fly but the expo portion was a blur. Could you list all the different D/R and Expo settings that you ended up inputted the changing in the last 10 seconds of the video?

We have started to do it in the radio setup part, a bit more consistently of late...this video is a while ago, so more recent footage is more similar to your request. Sorry for the inconvenience. Also, David, as you get your feet wet (again) D/R and Expo are so highly subjective, but very crucial for making a plane "feel" right to you...but what I might like, you might NOT...so maybe if you want to copy my setup, then just kinda play with it to morph into your own starting point, like I do. Remember, the D/R and Expo settings I do are my starting point...then I have Double and Half settings. After maiden, I make adjustments, if necessary, but rarely do.

I have three flights on my Turbo Timber. With takeoff flaps the plane zoomed up. It turns out I had the radio settings off - it was adding "up" elevator instead of "down" with flaps deployed. Was fortunate to get the plane back on the ground safely. I actually did an unintended loop when I must have switched flaps to "full" instead of to "off." Will try -16 and -30 for flaps-to-elevator mixing with my Futaba radio. That will add "down" instead of "up." Any suggestions on those settings numbers are welcome. Linkages are as per plane manual.

If your elevator control linkage holes are per manual - do exactly as the manual says....just MAKE SURE the elevator goes down when you deploy the flaps. Here's a little bit of confusing information to muddy the waters for you.....when you have INBOARD flaps, this will usually make the plane nose up or balloon without elevator intervention. When the flaps are outboard, the effect can and is often time opposite. When in doubt, make yourself a NEUTRAL setting to use to land ;) Then just set it up the rest of the way when you're done with the maiden.

@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks, Brian. I did set up the controls to match the manual including the numbers for the flaps-to-elevator mixing. I checked that carefully on my dining room table last night: the elevator does move down with deployment of flaps. I flew the plane today and it went well. I took off with takeoff flaps after taking my time to check control surfaces. The plane did want to climb. I was able to retract the flaps. I had to add some down elevator for half throttle flying. I did a half dozen or so circuits of the flying field and then made a good, no bounce landing using takeoff flaps. I wanted to get a decent flight in before bad weather sets in here in New York State in order to calm my nerves about flying and build some confidence. Next time I fly I will try out the mixing of ailerons to rudder, assigned to a switch, and will see how landing with full flaps goes.

Agree 100% with the "foam spacer" approach for desired battery placement rather than using "straps" Brian!! Def not a fan of fighting straps for batteries here.. Just keep those spacers "light and tight" and save on aggravation. And in the long run,, probably a more accurate system too.. I throw a marker line on my battery, and a line under the canopy in the fuselage, to make sure all is aligned. Awesome vid as always Brian!! hmm,, maybe we should manufacture a small screw type adjustable "pressure" type device that will hold any battery exactly where we want it?? With a top edge to hold the battery down , as well as forward or back in the fuselage? I love cheap and effective for solutions here.. Stick er in, turn a finger wheel, and poof,, perfect placement?

Another plane, like the Twin Otter I went straight to Floats. With 4s power it’s a blast to fly. With the STOL and flaps you can land this plane in a 5 gallon bucket. (Floats won’t fit in a bucket. Maybe a bathtub would be a better visual)

the turbo timber, timber x and air tractor all run the same motors, plenty of power and very dependable! im glad you finally got a turbo, I did something crazy and put turbo timber wings on the timber x and it works great. i wish it wasnt so smokey and foggy today or id be flying too.

@@BrianPhillipsRC For sure they come without servos and without the slats which is kinda crappy of horizon not to include the slats with the wings because they cost almost 50 bucks just the bare wings and the slats are like 17 bucks. So I used the slats from the smaller X wings on the ends and it works pretty good. Its got tons of rudder and elevator authority but with way less crazy "cornballish" maneuvering that used to give me a heart attack every time I flew it.

Got this plane recently with floats and a 2200 4s I needed to add 40g of weight to nose, first flight before this was abit of a meh didn't fly very well and wasn't to windy so not sure, will test again after adding weight and see how she does, also noticed the alierons have a fair bit of play in them the linkages where it connects to the aileron it self isn't a very tight fit not sure if this could be causing the average flight aswell.

Do you notice the elevator push rod bending when the servo is activated? Mine does and I am not sure how to fix that other than to manipulate the horizontal stabilizer and elevator hinges to loosen them up. Other thoughts? Thank You!

Disconnect the horn and work the surface back and forth by hand a BUNCH....then reattach it and see if that does the trick.

i put in an 80amp speed controller and power 25 - i modified the batt compartment - started with 3200 100c 6s - to big and to heavy - the 3200 100c 4s fits like a glove - waiting to charge up and get out there to see what it does - this plane does not easily accept larger motors ! but you can do it- i also got the five blade prop just to try out it will require a punch out to fit the prop adapter.

Yes you can balance charge your dump battery, because you have your balance plug fitted onto the battery for the charger.

Would you have any idea why my right aileron sits higher than my left at level Position? Trims are at neutral. Haven’t messed with the servos or linkages. I have set up one aileron one flap. Do you think it could be due to the way it was binded and the plane not being level at that time? Safe is set up, but it acts the same safe/no safe.

If it's more than a little bit, you might have a servo with a tooth that's missing...but I doubt it. Have you flown it yet? If so, did it fly level? Have you BUMPED the aileron hard? I've had this happen where I've bumped them walking through a doorway, for example, and the aileron "popped" to a position a couple clicks off of where it was supposed to be. I corrected this buy popping it back over with a flick of the finger - NOT the best way - LOL - but it worked ;)

Do it, this was my first plane and I love it, I just practiced a lot on the RealFlight 9.0 simulator from Horizon and that was enough to get me flying successfully. Just put the slats on and she will fly sooooo slow if you need her to, makes for much easier landings. Good luck.

I had to reduce my throws by 75% it was like straight up and straight down on ailerons and elevator and my issue is the cg it says this but it is taking so much weight extra to get it to balance.

Did you do the outside hole of the elevator and rudder? I did the inside hole and probably would have been happy with the outside or middle hole. I assume you meant to say, you're RUNNING 75% Rates? If you reduced them by 75%, ie 25% throws would be crazy low... If you're ever running rates super low like that, please do adjust your control arms inside the plane or at the control surface, OR both....as you'll be able to get WAY better more PRECISE controls out of the plane.

@@BrianPhillipsRC I reduced the rates on my computer radio down to 25% it still gives me one inch travel on every surface except ailerons i cant get into those servos without tearing something up.

Let me guess, you bought it as a PNF? Please, PLEASE, PLEASE - buy BNF until you're ready...PNF is WAY harder to get right than most realize. ...but, since you already did it...you can go ahead and try. Some controls may not work, so if you're going to make the changeover, remember that SOME SURFACES MAY RUN BACKWARD AND YOU MUST CHECK FOR THIS!!!! Servo orientation can sometimes be corrected MECHANICALLY, but it's a LOT of complicated work. Also, you'll NOT have flaps. Flaps MAKE the Timber. If it's a Turbo Timber Evo - you will have a real hard time using the Thrust Reverse Feature. Please do me and yourself a huge favor. Get the BNF planes. The Rx is so much cheaper this way. If you want to get the EXACT same plane...no biggie, but otherwise, you'll learn on this plane. Thanks David - sorry to report the not so sweet news.

Hey Brian I got a question have you ever put the prop from the turbo timber on the original 1.5 timber. Im rebuilding an original and I'm think about putting the turbo timber prop on it and I was wondering if it would work and if there would be any issues? And if there is any props you would recomend.

I bought a ready to fly plane and the problem is the DXS Transmitter you can't make the "custom"adjustments needed to fly correctly. It works but I wish I could do more with it.

I'd be lying if I said I know, but generally Horizon Hobby will have a month or two on a back order. They do sometimes list expected "next shipment", but in my experience, if you want it, order it. Covid has totally screwed up supply chains in all sorts of industries, with no exception on Chinese made RC Products.

scratch that i got it - broke the landing gear - not really a hard landing (a problem with this plane from what i read) - since making the repair i'm putting in a 60 or 80 amp esc and 15bl or power 25 motor - i was really into this for years and out of it for years / a little rusty on stuff - getting back into it - thanks for your videos!

This plane is a lot nicer plane than the Volantex Ascent 1400. It's physically bit bigger (but not a ton bigger), and more features. Also this plane comes with floats. Price is pretty close by the time you include the different features.

Great video very informative, quick question on the lipos. I have been told a puffed out battery is unsafe and should be discharged and disposed of. What is your opinion on this?

Depends on how puffed the pack is. I don't want to tell you how to decide, because I don't want to deal with repercussions of you or another person burning down their house or garage. Here's what I'd say, and this is just another RC guy's opinion...if it's damaged (pierced), puffed, getting too hot...figure out what caused that issue and correct that issue. IF the issue is the lipo, seriously consider disposing of it safely. Remember, it's your house, and your family in it. Lipo's CAN BE the most dangerous part of our hobby.

Technically, I know you CAN use the Transmitter for both plane, but you might need to Rebind each time you switch between the planes. ALSO, you won't have any control over what switch controls what surface, and I KNOW that telemetry may not work, as expected. Here's my advice you DON'T want to hear ;) Get an NX6 - you will LOVE IT! NX6 bit.ly/3eqEn7M If you can wait a while longer, the NX8 is HARDLY any more money, but technically ONLY ONE MORE CHANNEL - NX Transmitters bit.ly/3mbVuNB

With some practice you could get here, but you'll need supervision...this plane is big enough and powerful enough to injure people, so I'd encourage you to speak with your folks about this one.

I should have stuffed a 3200mah 4S 30C in there...as it's supposed to be possible. 4S is the way to go on this bird. 2200mAh fits nicely, but it's such a short flight time.

Brian, how many propellors have you gone through on your Turbo Timber? Actually a better question might be: how many propellors did you go through during your first year learning to fly RC planes? I started with the Eachine P51 and Trojan during the past summer (my new COVID-friendly hobby) and gradually worked my way from beginner mode to expert mode (no gyro). The great thing about those little guys is the props just popped off and on again - no breaking. Now that I have graduated to bigger models (still staying under $300) I'm going through propellors like those Kodak single-use cameras you used to get from Walgreens, remember those?

wow, you've come full circle, i remember when you did the original Timber 1.5m in that neighborhood or park area , i know there were houses around but you had some space too. that seems like forever ago...now you got your hands on the Turbo Timber. Cool...... but what about my dilemma between the Turbo Timber 1.5 and the Timber X 1.2. My son likes doing stunts quite a bit and he would really think it would be cool to do a tad bit of 3D stuff if one of them there aeroplanes would allow for it. This is a Christmas present so any advice is VERY helpful.

Tough call. The Turbo Timber 1.5. will do so much it's probably acceptable, but if you want CRAZY 3D performance, you'll want to get the NIGHT Timber X...so much more snappy, but I find it less appealing, with a shorter wing and less fun to fly, since I don't care for 3D flying as much myself. Again, it's a personal preference in this case.

Okay, so I have been looking at the Maule M-7, but this one looks like a pretty sweet flyer as well. Since you have piloted both, do you have a preference between the two for overall flight characteristics? They both seem like very capable all around planes.

YES. This plane is a better flying plane, and more reliable landing gear performance....both come with wheels and floats. The Maule is prettier, and more scale looking, but I prefer the Turbo Timber as it's more well behaved and more forgiving. I'll give you my standard response..."Is it too much to ask for BOTH???" hi everyone NEED HELP !! I have a Turbo timber 1.5 Blue the first edition, my battery is Tattu 2700 mAh 3 cell 11.1V, Radio is specktrum NX6. kinda new to this binding stuff. The problem is that the plane flies like a gentle lady at full throttle, barely able to keep it in the air which is quite frustrating hence the term Turbo does not apply at all here. Reading the manual seems to point to a binding problem. My next ques. Are there two ways to bind my plan? I know about safe mode binding...kinda. will binding in safe mode (if there is such a thing) stop the motor from having full throttle? If so, it shouldn't. this should be a user decision hence throttling down! not something controlled by the radio. Also If the latter is true then how do i bind the plane so that i get full throttle. Thanks for any help or advice given. 👍😊

Try a 4S and see if you have better luck. All the Turbo Timbers were rated for 3S and 4S, just not the "Timber" (Red and white)

hi Brian, a little off topic, love your knowledge ....you might have an opinion..: i bought an nx8, installed an ar630 in to my pnp tundra v2. i am having fits setting up flap and elevator mix. if safe is off it works perfect. if i have safe on ....as the flaps deploy, the elevator begins to tri., then stops, then delay, then "pops" down to the determined amount. take safe off..... works perfect! all of my other bush planez are bnf and the flap system works perfect. this is my first pnp set up with the nx 8. the plane flies great but balloons way too much when flaps deployed.... any ideas? ps: my turbo timber flies like a champ... thanks for your good content!

I think you're dealing with an issue I've experienced, and corrected. Do these steps exactly, to identify and resolve your problems. You heard me right, you have TWO of them ;) Problem & Solution 1) Problem 1... You're flap deployment speed is not the same through the whole range of your flap switch selected. This is a NEW glitch I believe I've found on the NX6 and NX8, but might be a "Feature" for some planes you might actually want flaps to come down SLOW, and retract FAST. For example on a sail plane that you'll be landing in tall grass...so you can pull them up QUICKLY on landing. Solution 1... Click into "Function List", and scroll to "Flaps System" Scroll down to where it says "Speed: X.Xs" (with X being numbers representing your delay value in Seconds) Actuate your Flap Switch (I assume Switch B or Switch D...those are the two I hear of people using - but WHATEVER one you used...flip it) Watch the X.Xs value. It will very likely CHANGE from 2.0s (for example) to "Norm". Then when you actuate the switch to the THRID position, I bet it'll say "Norm" again... If so, you need to set EACH step of the switch to the SAME time frame...like 2.0s for two seconds. This WILL fix the first half of your problem. I think you're dealing with a NEW issue I've experienced. Do this EXACTLY these steps and I bet you'll fix your problem*S* - because you have TWO of them ;) Problem & Solution 2) Problem 2... I think you're channel assignment has SAFE Select attached to the SAME switch you're using for FLAPS. Confirm this by going into "Monitor" by scrolling ONCE to the RIGHT, and you'll see all the channels there on the display. You can get this in a few different places too, but this is the easiest from flight mode... Now actuate the flap switch, and you should see TWO different channels moving (and possibly the Elevator correction too, but for what we're doing, just ignore that part for now...that's normal and okay)... I mean moving like 100% up and 100% down...when you flip the flaps switch. Now take note of what CHANNELS are changing. You will need to know this in the "Solution" below. Solution 2... Click into "Function List", and scroll to "System Setup", confirm disabling RF by highlighting and clicking "Yes", then scroll to "Channel Assign" and click. Now scroll down and see what your flap switch is setup to, and then scroll all the way down to "Next" and confirm our theory on the second page "Rx Port Assignments". Now that you know what's going on...pick a channel for SAFE Select, and assign it to a DIFFERENT switch than the FLAPS...you may just want to verify one of the "Top" channels is changing when you toggle your now picked Safe Select switch. Note that I mean, just pick it in your head...don't actually make the RE-assignment yet. Now that you know what you want to use for Flaps, and SAFE Select/AS3X switch AND you have them untied together from the "Channel Assign" and "RX Port Assignments"....go back to regular flight screen by pressing Back a few times, and now you want to make your SAFE Select selection from the OTHER switch that's NOT your flap switch (the one you just picked in your head). Pull the sticks DOWN AND IN TOWARD EACH OTHER, then flip the switch up and down, counting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and if you don't see the "jump" (but you will), then keep counting 11, 12, and stop counting when you see the big jump and jump back... (you'll usually see it at 10 or 11, then BACK at 12...I know doesn't sound like "5X" does it - well, that's because engineers wrote the manual, not users...they want you to cycle the switch FULLY, regardless of two or three position, slider, or knob. NOW both things should be fixed. Just make sure you're good with the DIRECTION the Safe Select switch changes state from SAFE to AS3X only, but if not, just jump into "Servo Setup" and click and scroll into "Reverse" and flip the channel you picked (in your head) and decided to use for Safe/AS3X. Good luck! These solutions will take you about 30 seconds to do, but it took me probably about 25+ minutes to type it out - SOOOOO - I'm asking you a favor now. The next time you setup a plane, watch through one of my radio setup video and follow along as exactly as you can. I will help you to avoid every one of these strange stacked issues that seem to have happened to you in your setup. I want to help everyone, but I physically can't spend this long on technical replies, since I have way too many people (maybe 10-20 questions each week) asking this type of question any more, especially if we just got done filming an hour or two hour long video showing exactly how to avoid these problems. After you've worked through the setup a few times, you probably won't even need to watch it again because...you'll have it down pat. P.S. I'm not upset with you at all, just want to communicate this with you, to help you understand where I'm coming from.

@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for your time Brian. i didnt expect that much but sure appreciate it! i get up at 4 and checked everything you mentioned before heading to work. my flight modes are set to aux 2, on switch c. my flaps on D, speeds all 2.0 with flight mode 3 SAFE OFF, the system works perfect. when i select safe mode and deploy flaps to mid travel.... the elevator trims down as desired. once the flaps are stable....a few seconds later... the elevator "pops" down a bit. ( it looks like when you cycle safe on a tail dragger and the elevator twitches) one thing of note. this tundra has 90 deg flap travel. in order to get it right i had to dial 150 units of subtrim! all of my other planes are like 100>0>-100 so i am concerned about that. but it works fine with safe off?...? it seems to me there is something wrong in the ratio of flap travel vs elevator travel in the mix. i sought your advice because i have been watching your videos for a few years.... you are a sharp knife in the drawer! ps: i am an avionics technician for american airlines, in my 33 year.marquette mi. and 4 years in the airforce, avionics, f111f. troubleshooting and calibration is my job..... and this plane is kicking my butt! best regards, and thanks again. bob

Hi Brian. Have wanted timber turbo for a while, i like the idea of the 1.5m wing for easy visibility at height and also for aesthetics over the timber x but I also want to be able to do nice stall turns and to a lesser extent knife edge. Im torn between getting timber x and buying turbo timber wing and having a hybrid or do you feel with max throws (and the inner hole as you did)the stock turbo has enough rudder authority? Btw I loved your video on 3m 🦊 fox , I had one, what a beast.

You will be happy with this, more so than the Timber X. Here's WHY. The 1.5m is capable, but the Timber X is a 3D plane. Hope this makes sense to you. If you buy BOTH, you can swap wings, from what I understand ;) Good luck with your tough decision!!!

Have you tried putting a Smart 45 amp in this model, after watching your video from 2017 the motor reverse I think would shorten the landing run Tom the Bomb has fitted one in his model and in looks awesome, what would your view be on it, I know you have now moved but still have a concrete runway,, make a good video, that's my view. Stay safe. P.S Do you glue your wings together on you all your models?

This plane can literally land on it's feel NOT moving, so why do you need to shorten the landings? Water ops would be awesome with reversing, but I wouldn't need reverse thrust on this bird... If you want to do CRAZY 3D stuff, get the NIGHT TIMBER X in stead, maybe ;)

I'm deciding on a STOL plane it's either this or the Maule M-7 you showed about three months ago. Would be my first one. Any opinions ?

Timber is more refined, lighter, and more "too the point", but the Maule is more SCALE, and if you like the looks, it's more beautiful. They're BOTH great, both come with floats....both similar price....pick which one you like better ;) P.S. The landing gear on the Timber are WAY better though... P.P.S. Timber has better flight times too P.P.P.S. Maule has a TOP loading battery (very nice, and WAY easier than the Timber) Turbo Timber 1.5m bit.ly/2CiTmSB Maule M-7 1.5m bit.ly/2Wrj1zz ....In conclusion, is it too much to ask for BOTH? ;) (You already knew I would say that!!!)

@@BrianPhillipsRC Intersting that you say the landing gear is better on the Timber instead of the Maule. It was one of the reasons I was leaning towards the Maule since I thought the landing gear was better by the way it looked, but I wouldn't know. I just wanted to buy a STOL plane that had good flight time, nice big landing gear, and would be my first plane with flaps if that makes a difference. Thank you again for the response!

Brian I had to laugh, you were explaining how fingernails do a number on the foam when handling the plane, but you forgot one other thing, rings. Right at 1:45:45 on your video, your getting ready to center the rudder, well check out the flat surface where the wing will attach to the right topside of the fuselage it was clean, then you put a gouge it it with your wedding ring. I was watching the video very closely, that’s the only reason I saw it.

Which is better, as a first "larger plane" ? I have been flying 3s 2200 sized planes, Sport Cub, Extra, Gemini bipe, and a few similar sized warbirds. Would you say this Timber or the similarly sized Cub is a better plane?

I wouldn't say it's "Better" but it is a great plane. I can't make that value judgment for you, but I do believe this plane is worth buying, and I suspect you'd love it given the history of planes you mentioned.

Brian. I just bought this plane. My very 1st. Dont know a thing about the remote and its functions. Although I have a friend thats teaching me but I must say you are waaay more knowledgeable. Having stated that. I'm even more confused. I'll get it one day.

Keep at it. Watch the radio setup in SLOW motion...it will help. You can do it. Pick a HUGE place to fly. Have a spotter so you can be 100% focused. Use SAFE. It will help you immensely. Good luck!!! Have someone check out the balance and the controls, especially the directions. Than have a good pilot get it in the air, trim it out, get it high enough, and then you can try your hand at flying it. Your instructor will have to land it for you. Repeat until you are ready to solo.

Thanks to you I am back in RC. Just tryin to find my way Going with DX8E. Turbo Timber. Now trying to figure out batteries and chargers. Power supplies. Etc. That's the hardest part. Then the cord for the wall is separate it seems. Hobby stores in AZ are weak so they dont know. When are ya having a workshop weekend?

Not every hinge is "Fowler" just because it's not a foam hinge. The aileron has a pocket hinge, the flaps are slotted. Fowler flaps have to be not only slotted, but extend to the point where the leading edge of the flap is lined up (with a slot) behind the trailing edge of the wing, so that the wing chord and wing area are increased
