I love the use of white, and her constant need of trying to keep everything nice n perfect…symbolizing that she had nothing to regret, and that her words and her message were pure. The scene in the bathroom was genius! When she purged out the fetus like image of herself, it was about a rebirth, that she still had time to change her ideals and create a new message to feed the media. When she snapped its neck, she has made a decision, that pruning was and is the only answer. She feeds off her notoriety, using her words as merely stepping stones to her throne.

I think the birth/rebirth imagery is definitely there, too. I was personally taken by how paradoxically alien and humanoid it looked- nothing like a fetus, a baby, or a child, but a really ugly tiny human. Like a homunculus, in the batshit 17th c. sense. I think the climax could be construed as a deliciously graphic literal expurgation of her humanity, her capacity for empathy, sense of moral accountability, etc.

What I took from this is that once you say something, whether it be to a single person in conversation, or more so to a group of people who are listening to you for your platform, it takes on a life of its own and furthermore cannot be taken back. You can then not in all good conscience detach yourself from any blame because you are the root cause- you gave birth to whatever came next. Granted, we cannot control the actions of others but we can decide what we ourselves decide to say and do. We plant the seed. You can hardly then blame people who listened and absolve yourself if it grows into something ugly. I fucking love this, one of my new favourite Alters!!! 🖤🖤🖤

"Are you ever allowed to stray from that message? Can you ever take a beat and acknowledge that you're wrong? Cos I don't think you're as free as you think." I think this is incredibly poignant. So many people are trapped by their own limiting ideas, too afraid to consider other views or doubling down on their beliefs because their ego is wounded by the criticism their beliefs receive. This can apply to left-wing people too- although I am very left wing myself, I think it's important to remember than anyone can be susceptible to dogma. And dogma traps us, limiting our growth and cutting us off from our empathy. Brilliant film!

@@joannemadden7449Like a full summary of everything? Sami Geller is a politically controversial online personality. She talks about personal freedom but feels boxed in by her own audience. She tries to keep careful control of her life from her immaculate home to her polished expressions and responses, but something in the wild woods she jogs through unsettles her. After an inflammatory speech on pruning threats in society inspires a shooter, (who previously wrote to her) her friend and the internet turn on her, but while she feels guilty and horrified to the point of nausea, she deflects responsibility and asks her friend to think for herself. The controversy around her being in the shooter’s manifesto propels her into greater fame and a promising career path, so despite her changed feelings on pruning threats, she can’t express them unless she wants to throw away her new opportunities. When she finally sees the figure in the woods, it manifests as a shooting victim. He says she was right about pruning, and she turns his shears on herself, so I can assume at this point her guilt is at its peak and she recognises herself as a societal rot. But she evidently changes her mind and goes through with presenting a guiltless side on TV. Just before she airs, her birthing a fetus through her mouth- the result of several days of nausea- appears to be her last chance, but Sami snaps it’s neck and goes on air, repeating the same defensive ideas the host feeds her.
@malinasworld7 ай бұрын
My thoughts are that the fetus was supposed to her saving grace. Birth and life after days of stewing in the guilt of death all around her. Sami chose to get rid of it and go on the show instead of going home with it, cementing her path.

this woman makes her living by putting words into the world. the words she chooses to put into the world gain a life she is responsible for. since she's the one that actively made them, on purpose, she was confronted with it. but she didn't want the responsibility and disavowed herself. it's supposed to parallel how people like her feel about abortion and are hypocrites. if you accidentally get hurt or something goes wrong, that's your fault. but if you do it on purpose and decide to chew it up like a hamster, that's a-ok as long as you're the right part of the 'plant'.

Rewatching only to say that this is the scariest short I've seen on this channel by far, so far. Ones that touch reality more are the ones that are truly scary due to the reminder of how grim the world is, not just the state of things today, but also someone going through a genuinely hard time and dealing with sorrow. This one doesn't have a lot of the metaphors so many of the rest do, it's straightforward and works just as well because of that. The depiction of her conscience is quite interesting. I always imagined that if a conscience were to have an embodiment, it'd look like an angelic being. This is pretty similar to how I would picture it, only it's tiny and sickly in appearance because she's been starving it with poppycock she doesn't actually believe deep down. And snapping its neck is basically the only metaphor here for her turning her back on her true principles and selling her soul/conscience.

From both sides. Be critical at all times, don't just follow any crowd. Although I do agree that she carries no responsibility on the tragedy, she didn't claim that violence is the answer. Many people have been seen written in manifestos, that doesn't mean that they carry responsibility for the actions of others. Unless they specifically called for violence. Many things of what she said are also true. Victimhood is being seen and used as a privilege. 'Who is more oppressed? The black people? The immigrants (ask Chicago residents)? The alphabet community (and then which one of them..)? This victimhood monster is now backfiring on the left. Hillary is called a superpredator, ryan paul the same etc. They're now running from the mindset of people that they created.

Basically, MC was pretty deep in denial for most of the short. She "fought" so hard against extremists who had such a superiority complex when it's clear from the way she talks and acts publicly that she had a superiority complex and was an extremist herself, just on the other end of the spectrum. But she couldn't admit that because that would mean having to admit she was wrong in some capacity. Every time there was an opportunity for her to question her ways and consider not feeding into the narrative she felt trapped in, she felt nauseous or gagged up chunks of hair. The complete alien-looking baby thing that she threw up at the end was her "conscience", I believe. The last of her compassion and her ability to be a good person. The last of her chances to back out and not keep feeding into her extremism that she felt like she had to answer to because her ego (once again, superiority complex) couldn't handle it. But she snapped its neck and destroyed that chance. She's too far gone to come back from the things she says. Which lead to her downplaying the tragedy and using it for her own political agenda.

So... who is this supposed to resonate with, really? All I see is the antagonization of people who don't believe in left ideology. The main character in this short isn't even in the extreme right, and forgive me but she's not responsible for what people did.

In my opinion, I didn’t really think this was supposed to _actually_ be about politics. I interpreted it as being about the dangers of black and white thinking and of being so trapped in your own way of thinking that you can’t even begin to understand anything else and can often end up compromising your own beliefs and morals at the risk of admitting you are wrong (this is happens with both the left and the right, if you do want to bring politics into it). The main character does not seem okay with the events that are happening from a moral perspective, but is unable to actually admit this because, in her eyes, it would invalidate everything she believes in. In the end, this results in her basically losing a part of herself. I think this message could have been conveyed in variety of different ways, but the creator decided to chose a political narrative. I think you could just as easily tell this story from the opposite perspective (i.e. the main character being far left). Anyways, that is just my interpretation of it. Also, to clarify, I’m not trying to argue or disagree with you in any way (I hope it does not seem that way). I’m just sharing how I viewed the story.

There is a term, stochastic terrorism. It means performing an action that will spur another person into performing an act of violence. But since it can't be predicted which person will act out the instigator can assure themselves they are not responsible. Humans are always looking for reasons to do things and not be responsible for the consequences.

Oh no. Please tell me alter is NOT becoming about politics, like all mainstream media. Please. We used to loved it BECAUSE IT WAS NOT POLITICS.

@@superpandaidol_3 I really hope so. There are way too many things to watch in the tube about politics. It would be too bad to lose ALTER to it... This movie is political, it's mocking "conservatives", and I don't want to see any of that (political topics) here. I want just horror. Remarkably, the best horror here is Korean.
@superpandaidol_37 ай бұрын
@@yuliapanina1839 it isn’t. All the movies after this were not political at all. Also, ALTER doesn’t have the same directors for movies. I’m pretty sure people either submit their movies to ALTER or catches ALTERs attention.
