Do you have any issues with powdery mildew with Black Eyed Susans?
@joeybarra42823 ай бұрын
@@ButterfliesNBirds no. I make sure I bottom water them. I try to keep water off of the leaves. Mine are potted and doing fine right now

The hummingbirds are all over my Turks cap
@ButterfliesNBirds3 ай бұрын
That is fantastic! I do have some flowers on my Turk's Cap, but not like I would like. Hummingbirds just love this flower, so I'm glad you have lots of blooms! 😍

Great video! For me, 30 miles north of Houston...Rock Rose, Dallas Red Lantana, Mystic Spires and Furman's Red Salvia Greggi are doing very well in the full sun and heat.

Nice list! How large does your Rock Rose get? I haven't tried this plant yet, but have "eyed" it once or twice at the nursery. lol.

Things looking beautiful in your garden! Good performers for me have been salvia and gomphrena. Everything else is kind of tired and struggling.

The high heat and humidity of August really does stress out our gardens here in the Houston area. I need to plant gomphrena next year. I had it one year, but then have not planted it again. 🙁

Very nice garden even in this heat. I love your dwarf Porterweed plant, do you have it on part shade or full sun? I would like to plant one next year.
@ButterfliesNBirds3 ай бұрын
Thank you!😊 My dwarf red Porterweed is planted in full sun in well draining soil with drip irrigation. It isn't dwarf for me anymore, as it has just grown beautifully!

I’m in Houston area as well and my gomphrenas are taking the heat and blooming like crazy

I don't have gomphrena in my garden this year (I did have it a couple of years ago). I'm thinking I need to bring it back in my yard!

My Butterfly Bushes are still going strong along with California Giant Zinnias, Phlox and Verbina Bonariensis which are keeping Several types of Swallowtail butterflies, Monarch’s, Red Spotted Purples and American Painted Ladies busy. My Salvias like Amistad, Wendy’s Wish, Roman Red, Mystic Spires, Tangerine, Hot Lips and Violet Lips and Texas Red Sage are thriving along with Coral Porter Weed are keeping my feisty Ruby Throated Humming Birds and Bumblebees very busy too.

I LOVE your plant list!!! 😍🌺🌼🌞 I haven't planted Verbena Bonariensis yet, but I think I need to because of how much the butterflies are attracted to it! (I also wish I had Red Spotted Purple butterflies like you do!)

I am in east tx. The plants that are doing well in this heat and humidity are lantana, salvia dark and blue, Amistad, salvia greggi, rockin fuchsia salvia, henry dualberg salvia, mystic spires salvia, tropical hibiscus, and some other potted plants.

What is the tall broad leaf plant you have near the pink penta? They look staked. That’s the plant I thought was a banyan tree.

Ahhhh, those are my giant milkweed plants! I just love them! They are weird looking, but they sustain lots of monarch eggs/caterpillars and they grow so well for us here.

Thanks for this video. Does Turk's cap tolerate full sun, I'm in Spring? Where can I find fire bush? TIA

I’m in San Antonio 8b-9a zone I have 9 Turks cap in full sun all flowering and healthy 5 are getting full morning and afternoon sun they look a little saddened with our 3digit temp right now but has not stopped flowering or growing the 3 that I’ve had for about 4 years are huge I’ve had to prune them down they were way over 5 ft tall already they are the mamas to the rest of them as I pruned the limbs i put them into potted dirt and I got more Turks cap plants. Hummingbirds love them! Basil is also a full sun plant that flowers and pollinators love and also fragrant

My Turks Cap is looking a little sad too. It is in full sun but most of the ones I see around here are like understory plants along some of the road landscapes in the area. I purchased a small one from HEB and it has grown some. It's in about a 3 gallon container. I'm going to have to put it in a larger pot for sure to get that kind of growth. I'm so looking forward to it getting large. Thanks for your reply

I think full sun all day might stress Turk's Cap in our late summer high heat and humidity. Morning sun works great in my garden.
@ButterfliesNBirds3 ай бұрын
I have Turk's cap in morning sun and two plants in a shaded area where they only get about 2 hours of sun. The morning sun plants are doing better. My neighbor has her Turk's Cap plants in full sun that gets some shade by other taller plants and hers are doing very well.
@valeriemarshall50373 ай бұрын
I am going to put shade cloth over mine until I can figure out how best to shade it with other plants. My yard is full south facing sun, especially worse in the evening.
