Daemon choking Rhaenyra was a brilliant and deliberately shocking way to highlight the idea that Dragons are never fully tame. Daemon is 100% Targaryen, a dragon in human skin. His blood and bone is fire and chaos made flesh. I feel Rhaenyra understands this because she doesn’t admonish him or scream for help. Shes not even angry. She’s just surprised that Daemon knew nothing about the Song of Ice & Fire and likely understands for Daemon the fact that his brother didn’t consider him a truly worthy successor is a festering wound on his soul that no sane person should poke. I just feel it’s a deeper moment than just an abusive act. I found this comment in an another video and I find he's analysis very good so (credits to CaptainLuckyLuke)

He loved his brother so deeply and trusted him, even through all the problems that they had, and Viserys never shared it with him. He kept [Daemon] in the dark, and it just it breaks Daemon. Instead of reacting with grief or sadness that you see out of him later, he reacts with rage and he takes it out on Rhaenyra.”

The Dragon Daemon was singing to is Vermithor, it was King Jaehaerys. The king before Viserys in episode 1. The dragon has been idle all this time and Daemon is trying to bring the dragon to their side to find a rider for him.

You're wrong about Rhaenyra accepting the terms of surrender. Viserys trusted her with the prophecy and chosed her as heir because he knew she was the right one to rule, she can't give up her crown, is her duty, her responsibility, no matter the price she has to pay for it.

Daemon was right about everything in this episode except choking Rhaenyra. And Daemon, as impulsive as he is, still yields to Rhaenyra's authority as Queen. He didn't kill Otto because Rhaenyra told him no, he didn't go start a war because Rhaenyra told him no. He made plans yes, but he didn't execute any of them when Rhaenyra wasn't on board. I think Daemon would let Rhaenyra rule, but this is war and Daemon is more experienced in that regard so Rhaenyra should let him take point when it comes to war.

It was actually a sapphire in Aemond's eye socket. He put it in there some time after losing his eye. Also, I'm pretty sure you can't claim two dragons. The one Daemon was singing to in the caves was Vermithor, the old King's dragon (the guy from the start of episode 1, he was king before Viserys). It has been unclaimed for decades and I guess Daemon was trying to placate it so it would be more accepting to future riders.

Yes they can. When King Viserys's dragon Balerion died, according to George RR Martin, "[Viserys] did not take a second dragon", leaving the possibility that, had Viserys desired a new dragon, he could have attempted to claim one. So going by that logic, a dragon will only accept one rider at a time, but that doesn't mean a rider can't have more than one dragon.

For sure she should have asked for guarantees. Request that children of the Greens be sent as wards to Dragonstone to prevent betrayal. A promise of marriage between Aegon's daughter and one of Rhaenyra's sons could also have sealed the deal. But I AGREE WITH YOU - if Rhaenyra wants to protect the lives of her children and the peace of the kingdom, negotiating something from the proposal that comes from Alicent is the right thing to do. But obviously, this story is a tragedy and so that's not what will happen...

Rhaenyra can’t just “let” them have the iron throne Otto has been plotting to somehow get his blood on that chair for decades even using his daughter as a piece to make that happen. It’s all Otto behind all of this & he can’t be allowed to steal Rhaenyra’s birthright. Her father, the king, named her heir. It should be as simple as that but she’s a female so it isn’t that simple for everyone else. If i was rhaenyra I’d kill all the greens because she’s already lost her mother & now her father so you can’t expect her to just hand over all Visery’s titles & throne to a drunken rapist son he didn’t even like. The whole point of this tale is that none of these people deserve the throne. Almost every single character is extremely selfish and their entitlement leads to the chaos about to unfold. Alicents entitlement towards Aegon being heir, Rhaeneryas entitlement to the throne, Daemons entitlment to the throne Leana and Baelas entitlement to Vhaegar, Aemonds entitlement towards Lucs Eye, Ser Cristons entitlement towards Rhanaeryas hand in marriage. All these people are entitled and undeserving.

Criston Cole beat daemon 3 times on single combat and that is one of the main true things from the POV of maester's. 2. Daemon never touched rhaenyra, if the books were from maester's POV then why would the maester's do daemon justice by making it seem like he never harmed rhaenyra? 3. What's next are they going to say that daemon lives?

Otto planed to take the Iron Throne with Aegon even without the “testimony” of Alicent from the delirious Viserys. He planned to kill any menace to his line. Is to naive to think that Otto would stay in peace if there is any threat to his bloodline. His plan on this game of thrones is make his kind safe. It is possible that to calm Alicent he propose this terms, nevertheless when Rhaenyra and Daemon have the guard down he would kill them all to eliminate any kind of threat. It’s Game of Thrones and that’s how Otto and his allies are (only to see what happened with Rhaenyra support on king’s landing). Since he mix his line with the royal, war was inevitable at time.

@Ali Chaudhry Alicent of course want the peace, but Otto’s plan is to make that his bloodline perdure through time. That’s why he sent Alicent as a companion to the king. Seeing the whole plot. Viserys was the only one to stop any war at certain times, but his wrong choices make this inevitable. Also, how they didn’t blink to make Aegon king immediately and didn’t gave first Viserys a proper funeral talks about the kind of person that Otto is. Even when Viserys alive, he rushed more to his politic interest that even the king complains. Otto jailed any Rhaenyra supporters in the court or even kill them. Otto would killed Rhaenyra and his kind promptly if Alicent didn’t opposed it. Also she is the Queen consort and her “true powers” aren’t real, that’s why she has to make allies such as Cole or Larys. Corlys knew that Hightower pretentious are inevitable, and war was coming not matter what at this time. As I said, the only one able to stop war was Viserys if he took the correct choices at the time, like had been married with Laena instead of Alicent for example.

I think you don't realize situation Rhaenyra was. Daemon was Right better to feed his kids to the dragon then hand them over to Hightowers who would use them as hostages and eventually kill them because they are true heirs as Viserys declared so Greens wouldn't keep them for long as soon as they would get them, they would probably killed them to destroy any chance of Rhaenyra's sons gain support from great houses that actually care for their loyalty. Daemon needed to wake her up and Rhaenyra isn't child. She won't go around saying how can you do this etc.. That would be uncharacteristic for her character. She entered world of politics and war and she didn't even realize that so Daemon just needed to wake her up. Also Daemon was afraid she thinks more about what he thinks are nonsenses visions and dreams Viserys believed in as he said my brother had many omens and portances(is that right word?) Anything to make his reign more than it was. Dreams didn't made them kings, dragons did. When Rhaenyra told him about song of ice and fire his look was of shock that she's going her father's steps and daemon always thought Viserys was weak king

I don't think Alicent actually cares about peace. Alicent just wants to remain in power at all costs and she knows that if Rhaenyra becomes Queen she would essentially lose that power. With Aegon as King she continues to wield power through him, as she (and Otto) can easily manipulate and control him, making them the true rulers of the Seven Kingdoms. Her talking about Viserys wanting Aegon to rule is just a way for her to justify her actions and delude herself into thinking she's doing the right thing.

I don't agree with you at all, the moment they crowned Aegon they declared war. They stole the crown from Rhaenyra. Otto's conditions.... Yes, on paper it sounds very nice but they are things that already belong to Rhaenyra. And on top of that they want to take Aegon and Viserys (sons of Daemon and Rhaenyra) to the court as hostages. And I really appreciate Rhaenyra's strong mentality in this episode, she has lost her father, her baby, her crown but for her the most important thing is her family and her father's legacy. Of course she is angry, she has rage, she feels betrayed, but she puts aside her impulsive side of her character to act like a queen and value what is best for the kingdom. Which goes out the window when Luke is killed. Daemon, I don't care what most people say. Daemon is incapable of hurting his family. Yes, he screwed his brother, humiliated him, insulted him, disrespected him, took his niece to a brothel, abandoned her....but he was never aggressive towards his brother or Rhaenyra, not even when he was removed from being heir to the throne by her, not when she went to Dragonstone to take the egg. Daemon does horrible things to people outside his family. He killed his wife because she was in his way, he beat up a messenger when he found out his brother was sending an army, he killed a random person and set up a plan to marry Rhaenyra. He killed and mutilated half the population of Kingslanding .... but his family is the limit.

This is a response to your suggestion to let Aegon be king: He shares blood with the Hightowers. And in the previous episode, after Otto Hightower clearly admitted to having had a longterm plan in place to usurp the throne from Rhae, it's obvious that he'll promise his rivals peace and stability, and when the time is right, he'll mount his rivals' heads on spikes. He probably also shortened Viserys' life. Therefore, I hope Daemon (or someone else) makes an example of him. Furthermore, Daemon is certainly not gonna be polite when he's pissed off (especially towards his adversaries such as Otto). Just warning you ahead of time. If this turns you off, well, it is what it is. P.S: More importantly, I hope you remember that, as you're repeatedly telling him to stop, he's the only able-bodied person there who is a war veteran & dragon-rider. Your indecisiveness has the potential to be catastrophic during open conflict. Time is a luxury when people are plotting and/or trying to kill you. And Daemon knows this, which is why he is on edge out in the open.

I dont believe Daemon choking Rhaenyra was intended to harm her in anyway. I believe he was trying to make her snap out of what he believes to be foolish thoughts, he didnt want her to make the same mistake as his brother did with prophecies & omens. Throughout the whole first season we have watched Daemon be nothing but lojal to the crown, despite him being reckless at times. He probably has a lot of bottled up frustrations from serving his brother & not getting the same loyalty back. He dont mind being bad if it serves the purpose of helping those he is loyal to.

Rhaenyra is the heir the king chose. It only makes her legitimate under the assumption that the king's choice is law. The Blacks are the absolutist side of the conflict, enforced on dragonback, while the Greens stand for a rule based on established tradition, therefore not subject to individual choice. That conflict is already exposed between Daemon and Otto in the first episode after Daemon terrorises the city.

Daemon putting his hand on Rhaenyra was because of the prophecy because Viserys didn't tell him (that doesn't exist in the books that the writers vented in the series) I understand the fight we two have because they don't say it on the same page, do the daemon putting his hand on Rhaenyra, I think it was overkill, it wasn't necessary and the moment the daemon lets go of Rhaenyra, you can see in the daemon's and Rhaenyra's eyes that they are both hurting and Rhaenyra says she never told him this and she smiles because she is realizing that Viserys chose her as heir to the throne because Viserys didn't tell the daemon and Rhaenyra thought that Viserys told him because the daemon had 10 years as heir and Viserys and after those 10 years, Viserys never told him so he keeps imagining in the daemon's head how my brother who I loved so much never trusted me now the daemon must be very hurt because the daemon always wanted to show his value to Viserys and he loves his brother the daemon and someone he has a hot head , he is proud, but he also has feelings, but sometimes he ends up expressing them wrongly, then the daemon loses another son because he already lost one, then he discovers that his brother died Then later he discovers that his brother never trusted him and that it hurts his heart and daemon is feeling all of this but he ends up putting these feelings on everyone else, rhaenyra who is not to blame is the moment he lets go she sees his sad eyes and before he leaves if you notice he looks down he looks at her belly Then he remembers the daughter they lost, Daemon didn't stay with Rhaenyra because he didn't want to make the same choice he made with Laena the daemon has truama in fact the daemon always had for those who don't know the daemon's mother daemon died in childbirth so the daemon already has a trauma because he never wanted to have children, so the daemon didn't want to be with Rhaenyra so he wouldn't make the same choice there when Rhaenyra loses her son Rhaenyra keeps her daughter since the daemon goes to the beach suffers there this reminds me in the first episode of the throne scene there is a daemon and viserys is the daemon tells Viserys that each person suffers in a different way, and it reminds me of the scene where the two are suffering each alone, but Rheenyra and Daemon are mourning their daughter, unfortunately we didn't see much of the other side of the daemon this season because the writers and HBO preferred not to show it, in my opinion the most wronged one is Matt Smith Bro, he did several scenes of the daemon showing the side sentimental of the daemon, him hugging his daughters, he is on the beach suffering for the death of his daughter with Rhaenyra and he spends hours and hours on the ground suffering for the death of Visenya and we simply received in this episode just a quick scene of him suffering for his daughter in the book says a lot that the daemon is a great father and he loved his two wives Laena and Rhaenyra unlike the series which showed very little and I find it very sad because they are not showing the real daemon Of course he is hot headed and he is crazy but man he loves his family he would never hurt his family even the actor himself says that the daemon who would give his life for Viserys is Rhaenyra and it is very sad what they are doing with this character. 31:09 The scene at the end was Matt's idea, he had an idea that the person who should break the news of Luke's death should be the daemon, the writers and Emma gave up on the idea, they gave up, if you notice at the time of the scene when the daemon enters in the room, rhaenyra's attention goes to the daemon because she knows something happened and on the way the daemon is approaching rhaenyra you notice that he puts his hand on his face indicating that he cried there when he approached rhaenyra he is not even able to look us in her eyes 8:49 I'm sorry for Rhaenyra, she lost her father and didn't even say goodbye to her father or go to the funeral, I don't even know if it was because she didn't attend Viserys' funeral and even more so Rhaenyra lost two children Luke is Visenya, In the Book Rhaenyra She blames the Greens for the death of her baby and if you think she is right because she lost the baby it was because of the Greens, her own brother stole the throne from her and Alicent hid Viserys' death, Rhaenyra is pregnant, we all know that a A woman cannot take too much emotion or stress because it is dangerous for the baby and she received the news right away. I think Daemon probably has been a little violent with Rhaenyra over the years, I mean ever since she was 14 he was pretty domineering towards her I don't think their relationship is particularly healthy by modern standards -- though maybe better than average for this show. I think Rhaenyra didn't react because she wasn't that surprised and also doesn't really care that much.

Daemon is my favorite character, but I'm sorry, this was absolutely in character for him. Everything Daemon has been saying for years has now come to pass. He believes that they killed Viserys and stole his throne and will now probably try to kill him and his family. Then they lost their baby, and Rhaenyra didn't allow him to kill Otto because of that stupid piece of paper from Alicent. And then Rhaenyra starts talking about dreams and prophecies, when she should be focusing on the here and now. And the worst part is that Daemon understands, at that moment, that Viserys never truly trusted him. That has always been his sore spot. Daemon has never been good at dealing with strong emotions. That he snaps under such circumstances makes perfect sense for what we have seen of him. And you could see that he was surprised himself.

His character is not "ruined" by that. In fact it was something that defines him very well: being impulsive and unpredictable especially under pressure or while going through intense emotions. Rhaenyra's actress already confirmed it, the choking is not because he's violent towards her on a daily basis but because he was not able to properly canalize all the emotions and the grieving he was going through during that moment. Of course it doesnt make it okay but that's who he is and who he's always been as a character. And it doesnt mean that he wouldnt kill or do anything for her or their kids. He would still die defending them and their house if he had to.
