A suggestion based on personal experience about the tv/fireplace situation - always put your tv down at eye level for you when you’re sitting on the couch. TVs where you have to look up or turn your head up can actually give you a crick in the neck after a while
@flibbertygibbette3 жыл бұрын
Unless you mostly lie down/back to watch TV, in which case mounting it high with a bit of a downward tilt can be better for your neck 😃
@RiddimKingdom3 жыл бұрын
I agree with this. We bought an enormous 70inch tv and it fit nowhere except above our fireplace. Now we both have neck issues. When we move we’ll definitely put it at eye level on a bracket

I thought how about just having big sofa across in front of the fire ( not literally ) so you see the back of sofa as you walk in as it looked like there wasn’t enough room for both sofas facing each other ? That would look so cosy and could walk round to the left or to the right to sit down ☺️

I don’t know if your house is listed but thought I would share my unexpected window journey for our late Victorian terrace. After a lot of passionate hatred of pvc windows - the quote difference to restore our sash windows properly vs. The newest technology and style of pvc sash windows (matching all the size of the glazing bars and structurally identical - real glazing bars not fake ones) - along with the eco insulation, longevity and acoustic performance and how far they’ve come aesthetically in just the last couple of years unexpectedly converted me - less than half the price, which is a huge chunk of any budget. We went with dark blue pvc sash windows. We were super specific about all the details including the colour between the double glazing at the bars. They have a grain so you can paint them. I haven’t regretted it for one moment. They’re actually beautiful and I admire them daily. They perform so brilliantly. My mum did hers “properly” in acoya wood recently and they’re perfectly nice - but for the £12k+ saving - I don’t notice the difference. Do consider it if you can. I am the last person who thought they’d be happy with pvc windows in a period property. (Most people can’t even tell!) that’s including the frame surrounds all wood with bespoke fluted joinery to match the existing......

How exciting to have a new home to nest in! Great idea to have a TV in your bedroom. I love going to bed really early in winter. I figure I might as well unwind and be super warm and comfortable in bed rather than begin dozing off in the living room before I come to bed. Also, there's no need to run heating into the the evening. Sometimes i need to heat my bedroom a little but 10 or so minutes with an electric heater does the trick. Saves on the cost of fuel and also saves the environment.

So lovely to see you so happy. A new project can do so much for our mental health. Regarding the TV in the bedroom, here's my two cents - I had problems falling asleep for ages. Then I moved and had to sleep on the sofa in the living room for a while and got into the habit of falling asleep to the telly. I know some people say it's not good for you but from personal experience I can only say it worked wonders for me. I find it so much easier to fall asleep when I'm not lying in the dark, thinking about work or family. Usually I watch youtube and when I start to drowse off, I switch off the TV and am out immediately. So - highly recommend. ;-)
