It’s interesting how “minimalism” means something different for everyone ! I have like 5 times less clothes than you and I still try to declutter regularly and think I own too much ! For me your wardrobe is HUGE ! 😂 And it’s absolutely not a judgement or anything negative, everyone is different and the most important is that what you owns makes you happy ! I’m glad for these moving / home renovations vlogs, I loved the ones in your previous house ! Thanks for sharing the process with us 💓
@MadeleineOlivia3 жыл бұрын
You’re very welcome so happy you’re enjoying them! Yeah I’ve learnt over the years that minimalism really needs to be so different for everybody. I don’t like the idea that you have to be shoehorned to fit into a certain idea of minimalism in order for it to help your lifestyle. It makes it so limiting when in reality it helps me so much! If it wasn’t for minimalism these wardrobes would be absolutely stuffed to the brim! I don’t even love the label “minimalism” anymore for this exact reason. Maybe I’m not a minimalist because of the amount of things I own, but minimalism has improved my life and made me so much more aware, thoughtful and conscious and I think that’s what counts at the end of it all.

I think I have few clothes but if they were all out it would fill all of the cabinets especially since that is summer and winter together.
@leonawada3 жыл бұрын
there arent many things in life more satisfying than watching people put away clothes so neatly 😌
@aineg22593 жыл бұрын
Ive never put away summer or winter clothes, I tend to wear them year-round! Summer clothes can easily be good for winter with a cozy jumper, tights, and boots. Winter clothes are great for summer evenings!! Forces me to have fewer clothes overall to fit into my space and try to have each piece be more multifunctional :)
@MadeleineOlivia3 жыл бұрын
I agree! I’m excited for this as in the previous house we just never had it set up so I could see them all in one place! Think it will make me use more of my wardrobe for sure and rethink anything that doesn’t work multifunctionally as you say
@Bertiiiiii3 жыл бұрын
I have a similar system. I have a dresser with 3drawers 1 for underwear, 1 for loungewear& sportswear and on for everyday T-Shirts jumpers and trousers. Shirts and dresses hang on a rail and I only have a small box for stuff that can’t be used year round eg. Really thick jumpers and very thin summery dresses. This way only allows me to have a certain amount of clothes but gives me the benefit of slightly mixing up my wardrobe. I also sometimes keep one or two things tucked away for longer so that my wardrobe feels more excited
@glynnL3 жыл бұрын
This would be ideal, where I live the temperature and weather changes of the seasons make it difficult to have everything dual duty. But a lot can be worn in layers year round and it is a good way to trim wardrobe down. I am envious of these wardrobes, so nice to have things accessible, but also hidden. But I do have a lovely antique one that someone was throwing away that holds all my nice clothes.
@lourlopezsk3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I wear my tank tops and t-shirts all year round, if it's 40° in summer, great, if it's 0° in winter I just put on a sweater and a jacket over the t-shirt. I've never divided my clothes by season and I believe having them all together makes me wear everything much more ❤️
@paigebethea14123 жыл бұрын
The weather where I live is so mercurial! It's a temperate area with lots of rain so in winter there is a non-zero chance that it will be 32*F on a Monday and 80*F by Wednesday morning. So summer clothes are actually year-round and cold weather clothes are just long-sleeved versions of summer clothes with lots of layers that you can peel off or add on to as temperature does its thing.

The view out that window is gorgeous 😍 I think a day bed or pull out sofa would fit really well in that room! That way it's still like a kind of luxury that you have your own dressing room where you can even sit and relax, but it's also a functional space in case you have extra visitors in the future.

The carcasses of the cupboards look fine you could over time just slowly replace the internal fittings to your own configuration even replacing the doors if necessary. You can add small felt pads to soften the "close" of the doors against the cupboard too. You are right too it can be made to look fitted by adding a surround. Great setup for clothes storage :)

There are also other companies that make custom doors for the IKEA pax system.... so if you don’t like what IKEA has there are loads of other options that will fit .... very reasonably priced!

And you could easily change the colour of the doors as well. Sand them down with a very fine grit sander and it works with furniture lacquer.

You could put in hinges on the mirror to make it a door, add a rail with a shelf above it. Then have that space as long dress/jumpsuit hanging space, plus put handbags on the shelf. In Alex's wardrobe - you could also put a shelf above his drawer and change that shelf in your wardrobe, which is bowing in the middle. The whole Ikea Pax system is plug and play with different doors and handles. You could add moulding to make it look built in and save thousands of ££.

Great job on the Wardrobe Room!!!. If you use this room as a wardrobe and exercise room you could repurpose the projector that y'all had in your old living room, in this room, so that you can follow along with a guided routine. Not sure what you would have to DIY because the PAX system can be modified to fit your needs. I changed mine after 2 years, got more wooden drawers, shoe sliding shelves etc. You can buy new doors as well, they have plenty. It's the beauty of PAX... it can be changed as your style changes. Building them in is a good idea, if they will never move from there. We did it with plywood from Wickes. Oh and this btw looks like an older model because those wire drawers are mesh now, much nicer.

I'm not sure if you want a dressing room or if you end up coming up with something that works for your life more, but I love the idea. I think a nice plush bench where you said day bed would be super nice! Also, I have a similar situation to your old storage with so many dressers etc. My place didn't come with a closet built into it.. its just a cave with nothing to hang clothes on lol. I bought this place right before the pandemic so I never got anyone to come in and build a proper one (it's got low pitched ceilings so I don't know how the heck to tackle that myself) and so for now I'm living with a freaking Amazon bamboo clothing rack and its driving me nuts. The way it's set up with the rest of my storage in there I can hardly walk in there and I totally don't even access my nice clothing anymore. It's been since December 2019 since I've had a proper closet so yours was a dream! I love my place and it's my dream home but the clothing storage is a massive sore spot for me.

Love seeing your house coming together bit by bit. Something which would be nice to add to the room could be something from the VALLENTUNA series from IKEA. It’s a little sofa well not really a sofa but something like a chair, which you can also use as a bed for one. Look it up I think it’s really cute and still makes you have the luxury of a walk-in closet. ☺️
