@@amberparker9883 “Joey”, had a history of violence. It was a well established pattern. It was history…He hid it well and set up a new, non-violent life. He did not get caught, but rather, “they” caught up with him. Eventually the pattern exposed itself, by happenstance, exposing his hidden secret, and ultimately they re-entered the picture, and became the salvation of his new, non-violent life.

When my Mum died at the age of 53 unexpectedly, I did not shed a tear. Family and friends asked me what was wrong, I did not look sad when in actual fact, I was absolutely devastated and so deep in shock that my grief, caused me to go almost mute, unable to speak for days but not a tear came out. 30 years later, I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed.

I’m really tired in these cases of people using couples who don’t share the same bedroom as murderers. Millions of couples sleeep separately for everything from snoring to health conditions. Hell my husband and I have slept separately for years bc we actually get sleep when we aren’t fighting for covers, mattress firmness, temperature, and snoring and we are happier and healthier for it. Hell, most people I know do the same thing for the same reasons.

Heidi Firkus - 1:09:21 - I’m sorry but Nick’s friends are in huge denial. You have to believe he killed his wife for no reason? There’s a gigantic reason. @@edortiz4496 I'm an American citizen living in Chile, and judicial corruption is certainly a problem here. I have never had contact with the Chilean criminal justice system, but there are frequent news reports on the subject. Chilean police, however, are famously incorrupt. I would hate to be charged with a serious crime here, since Chile has no trial by jury option, and the prison conditions are awful. They make US prisons look like 5-star hotels.
@twilisols
@twilisols 3 күн бұрын
@@edortiz4496That being said, you may be right about the Chilean justice system being the least corrupt. Just that "least corrupt" isn't saying much when we're talking about Latin America. The main issues are lifetime appointments for judges, no trial by jury, and double jeopardy. The US justice system is fairly unique on the latter two points, and I think most Americans aren't able to appreciate it until we've seen how things work elsewhere. I would definitely encourage other Americans to visit Chile, and even move here if they appreciate the language and culture (or are married to a Chilean like I am), but there are definitely downsides to be aware of. It isn't North America and that's okay, we shouldn't expect it to be.

Never talk to cops!”, which was told to me by a retired cop. His advice was aways ask for a lawyer, no matter what! You can always go from Not Guilty to Guilty, immediately, if you want. Not so easy to go from Guilty to Not Guilty. You always have the opportunity to tell your story at any time, showing remorse. When the Interrogator’s claim to want to help you, they are lying. They have many specific techniques to manipulate you. They can legally lie to you all they want. Their only goal is to close the case. They are not your friends. They will tell you that talking to them is the only way you can show you’re not a monster, or show remorse, acting like this will be your only time to explain your side. That is a lie in itself. Talk to a lawyer anytime they want to talk to you. Get up and leave, when they say you can. Them saying you must have something to hide or it makes you look guilty, if you obtain one. This is not true. Many times, polygraphs read false positives that say you’re lying, which is why they’re not admissible in court. You have the right to a lawyer. Use it. If you’re arrested, you may request one when you’re booked into the jail, and talked to the judge, so you’ll have to stay at least one night in jail, but it’s just best to talk consult with a lawyer, so you fully understand your rights. Even if you’re innocent. There is a specific list of specific techniques, called the “Reid” technique, which is used to totally manipulate you to confess, whether guilty or not. They will say, they have enough evidence to convict “right now”. That probably is a lie right there to you. It’s because they need more evidence, or strengthen the case. Just remember, their goal is to close the case, and that’s all.

Small thing by comparison, but I knew someone who wasn't allowed to put food she bought into the deep freezer she also bought because her man wouldn't let her because he needed it to store weed so he could freeze it to collect the keef. Hope I spelled that right. when she pointed out the fact she was the one who paid for the freezer she was not allowed to use because it was his house, she said he thought she was crazy until he thought about it and remembered it was true. He withdrew her stimulus money to buy the freezer.

Everybody grieves differently, some people hold it in and stay strong, some fall apart, some constantly laugh a little when dealing with trauma. There is no “right way” to grieve. I can’t stand when I hear cops say “He or she didn’t even cry at all” that doesn’t matter. When my mom passed right in front of me and my dad and brother, I absolutely fell apart. I couldn’t breathe I couldn’t eat, my brother never cried or looked phased but that’s because he was with her through her suffering for months and felt like her suffering was over and now she could rest. My dad had his head in the clouds, sometimes laughing when he’d start reminiscing about her. WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT.

Obviously everyone grieves differently. It drives me absolutely crazy when people repeat that overused trope. But within culture, we grieve VERY similarly. Your extreme variance within your own family is not the norm. Those would be considered outlier cases- NOT THE NORM.

Excellent reporting on Ann Bender. This was an amazing story. Hats off to 48hours team. May God bless that poor woman who has lived so much trauma. May she heal to the best state possible. Oh, Ann! Im so sorry for all your suffering! Only Jesus can truly comfort you. May you find rest in Him & have true divine peace. He also suffered the keenest anguish. He also experienced brutal betrayal. Then, evil men, inspired by the prince of darkness, beat Him beyond recognition and then murd3ered the innocent Lamb of God, as His holy Father covered Him in supernatural darkness and stood beside His beloved Son, as His tortured body and supreme mental suffering took His pure life & He died on the Roman cross. But in His anguish, He was the victor in the Great Controversy. By faith, in the character of His Father, He cried out : Father, into Your ( holy loving hands) I commit My Spirit!. He had the victory by faith. The battle was won, for each & every one of us, by non violent selfless means. Only satan uses force. He lost. Now supernatural comfort can come to each one of us who is suffering. And the promise of eternal life where there is no more suffering, is sure, if you accept it as a completely free gift. May Ann find peace through our gentle Savior and each one of you reading this, that is suffering right now. If you have never read the Bible, please turn to the 4th chapter in the New Testament, The Book of John. You will find your best Friend there.

Not specifically regarding the first case, but it has always bothered me whenever police say it couldn't have been a burglary-gone-wrong because of valuable stuff not taken. The way I see it, if someone tries to rob a house, stumbles upon someone being there, fights them, and kills them, I think it would be very likely that the burglar (now murderer) would then flee as quickly as possible, abandoning plans to steal stuff.

You don’t spend a dime on something you don’t have your name on…. Love or no love. My spouse and I share absolutely everything and it has never been a question about it, we agree on most things and when we don’t, we compromise like adults. We also don’t have secrets and maybe thats why we have been happy and functional for almost 20 yrs. Marriage is not perfect but its work just like all else in life. Be transparent people!

Men always come up with the stupidest stories. "Someone was breaking in so I loaded the gun and told my wife to go ahead of me." Sure. That makes as much sense as when a man says his wife left him after they had an argument but left her car, her keys, her purse and her phone.

I found that the defence had good arguments that casted serious doubts on what the prosecution alleged about Nick. People react differently in highly stressful situations. And the sentencing was in my view disproportionate. But I wasn’t a judge in that courtroom…

Yes, Rachel has been remarkable with her intuitions and self-preservation skills, thanks to which her kids are not motherless today. Not to forget how she did not refrain from withholding very crucial information/evidence which finally helped clinch the case against the pretentious scumbag and brought some semblance of justice to a very trusting Heidi.

I’m so sorry for the last woman, Ann Bender. I struggle with depression and it’s a very strange ideation. There is no logic, there is no typical way, the state of mind is just wrong. There’s nothing usual or unusual to it. It’s just a deep sadness, like you are dead but they forgot to bury you. I hope she can heal from this excruciating tragedy

I wasn’t buying Ann Bender’s story and fake crying throughout. She was also on a lot of meds and bipolar at the time of his death. She killed him. Seeing David Tronnes’ photo made my gaydar go off like an air-raid siren. Upon hearing that he was a member of Club Orlando-there was the confirmation! And hearing his fake crying on the 911 call made me want to throw up! Don’t let people charm you. And you always go by your first feeling upon meeting someone! Your gut is like a guardian angel. The fact that the ugly engagement ring, that looked like paste, was one of the only missing items out of all of the valuables, just proved how money-driven he is. He spoke with detectives because he thought he was smarter than everybody else. I used to drive by this home every day to go to work and am horrified that that poor woman met that fate!
