With the nature of Rebel Alliance doctrine I get the sense that these capital ships were sent into the thick of things only when it was absolutely necessary either because the odds were stacked in their favor or if the battle being fought was a do or die kind of scenario.
@nickmalachai2227Ай бұрын
When dealing with the Empire, a faction defined by obsessive overkill in the military department, there's never an assured vuctory. You're always a minute away from a fleet of ISDs showing up and wiping you out. So, yeah, all the big ships are brought out in a "this has to be accomplished, we have no other choice" type of situation.
@msorin74Ай бұрын
Well, the empire is always prepared to fight capital ships, but far less prepared to fight anything smaller.

3:24 * this is actually a concept I just heard of for this first time. it seems like a reasonable, logical upgrade as it would probably be far less expensive than designing/building heavier armed vessels. However, the ability to switch collars/loadouts is the main advantage imo. Kinda like the Nebula class starship in that it's a rock solid platform to mount the most effective equipment possible, or a wider variety of kit so the ship can be more self-reliant.

MC75 looks like a stopgap between Providence-class and MC80 Liberty and Home One-classes. "Wizard towers" and way engines are arrayed practically screams CIS.

I've always wanted to see how they whent from cis designs to original trilogy that stuff doesn't happen overnight
@witherwolf3316Ай бұрын
You know what I think makes the MC75 just feel right? It's shaped like a fish. Well, a shark, more accurately. That front nose is clearly designed after it, and that concept art at the end seals the deal.

I know right! As a fan of the Legends storylines and ships I always was kind of annoyed with the new ship designs introduced by the Disney Canon. That said! Over the years I have slowly started to appreciate the new ship designs and such of the Disney Canon. Still not a fan of some new stuff but a few things I do like or enjoy.
@fw.DallasАй бұрын
@@robertdrexel2043 Agreed! I honestly really like the things they introduced like the T-70 X-Wing and MC85. I don't know much about legends, so I'm not sure if the other two I mentioned are actually Disney designs.

I’m no engineer…but I have a really hard time imaging that it’s easier to turn an underwater building into a star cruiser versus just building a star cruiser.
@kleszczoros4885Ай бұрын
Tbh underwatter presures will be much higher so the ship/building will need to be build with a structure that's a lot stronger and a hull wich also is a lot stronger Its wierd to immagine a ship-building but to be frank really easy a retrofit od basically a deep sea submarine to a space submarine
@wordwyrdАй бұрын
I think it was mainly done as camouflage.
@jeffreycarman2185Ай бұрын
It sounds to me like the Mon Cala took space ships, made them into city ships, then when the galactic civil war came to Mon Calamari they retrofitted them back into being space ships.
@HALLish-jl5moАй бұрын
Back in the 1960s there was some talk of reactionless drives. Enough to have actual scientists and engineers investigate. Obviously they turned out all be fraudulent. But there was a brief window where it looked at least vaguely plausible to fly into space by just hooking up a nuclear reactor to Dean Drive. So there were some designs drawn up to take nuclear submarines, fit them with Dean Drives and heat radiators, and fly them to space. They were already built, airtight, and strong enough. Not particularly optimised for the job, but would cut out years of R&D.
@SkorpychanАй бұрын
They're submersible space ships that then got converted to warships by strapping on a band.

12:00 I love how the MC75C kind of resembles the Providence from the Clone Wars, probably not intentional by the designers but it still fits.
@PeterSonofMaryАй бұрын
Well, the Providence was actually designed by the Mon Calamari as well. The Quarren stole the plans and gave them to the CIS. So maybe it's not too much of a coincidence after all. They're both Mon cala ships ultimately.
@WedgekreeАй бұрын
For a ship it's size it was incredibly undergunned as a heavy cruiser. An ISD-1 had more than 150 weapons emplacements, including multiple quad batteries. It wouldn't last long in a 1v1 slugfest, even with proton torpedos.
@cd5sircoupeАй бұрын
I've said it just like yesterday, the ship needs around 18-24 turbolasers instead of 12, and a full 72 fighters instead of 36. Keep the rest of the munitions & ion cannons. I can't help but notice that the stat screen being shown at 3:50 references the original 650kph and not the 1000kph mentioned earlier, so could that mean the arsenal was also revised?

Hey! I was looking at your different videos on starships, and noticed, while you talk about the Venator a lot, especially in reference to other ships, you don't seem to have a video dedicated to the Venator itself. Just a few about refits or fanon versions or how such-and-such ship was "the Venator of the ___". Mind making an episode dedicated to the Venator? I mean, I can get why it'd be intimidating, it's such a significant ship in the lore.

But...they then put out an enormous model - Darth Vader's Super Star Destroyer command ship (the original model, not the new, scaled down one, they few now on Ebay are well into the thousands of dollars to buy one.). Followed by the Death Star and countless other Star Wars, Marvel and other sets, all related to warfare.

Hmmm... In a few different fanfiction story ideas that I had over the years since Rogue One was released I actually used the MC75 as a sort of super starfighter carrier for the late Rebel Alliance and early New Republic Fleets. Basically, making it a Mon Cal version of the Venator Class with the ability to service smaller ships like Corvettes and Gunships which would often be found escorting the larger cruiser carriers of the MC75 Line.

Great video although there is a very good reason why pshyscal ship models died out outside practical effects dummies... They caused nothing but pain and to do now would be a massive waste of resorces... On pair with the cuurnt Hollywood trend of abusing CGI so much the almost all Hollywood movies are animation with croma keyed in live action actors... Like my most hated exemple is in Topgun mavick 2 despite caliming otherwise the movie is just one big anition even the F-14 cockpit scenes which the only live action bit are the live action actors... So yeah like I said using pgyscal ship models today are a massive waste of resorces on that scale of stupid.... Like CGI ship models are objectively better in every single way and cost almost nothing in comparison and are a dream to film not a nightmare which held back Hollywood space battles till the prequals pretty much... Like how on earth is the battke at Yaven better then the opening battle inb revenge of the sith? Like it's ok to prefore that style and feel... But notice you can do the exact same thing with any CGI model faster cheaoer and easier... As it's mostly bearly moving models or sets and a tons of quick cuts and "photoshop"... Unlike the openibg for revenge of the sith which is only possible with CGI models... Like yes both Hollywood and Japan abuse CGI but shiop models isn't one of them... Like how everyone uses digital camras now for video as outside of a hobby their is only positives to use digtal camras these days...
@GreenBlueWalkthroughАй бұрын
Also if you want just the look of a physical model it's self... It's also much easier and cheaoer and faster to make a GCIO model for that.... Also phycal model in person look terrible escapluy kitbashed ones... Hince why when in the OG trilogy they needed a close up tgheyt would use a set for it or a really big model with insane detail for the time... Now their are whole tubers remaking old TV and movie ssapce battles looks with only CGI and their free softwear and KZbin educated skills! So yeah they are very, very dead because they are just a assive waste of rescores in every way... So wanting anyone to use them now outside stop motion is just not going to happen as GCI space bbattles and ships are hjust objectively better in every way massively too!
